I would have thought that making Rarity's Mane would be harder than creating one for Twilight, or Fluttershy, or any of the other Ponies for that matter, mainly because you actually have to shade parts of it. To be honest, I'd like to know how you created the shadow on her Mane, plus I'm wondering how many layers you've used so far. This would be helpful seeing as I plan on making a Rarity design myself.

However, if we want car-enthusiast beauty, there's always the 458.

Looks like I'm reading the last 2 chapters as a refresher tonight then.



Now about that design:

I created the entire shape I wanted her hair in, that entire purple area minus the curl at the end is all over top of a few large ovals. Then I added the basic details(the outlines of each section of the mane). After that was done, I added all of those little lines showing the detail of her mane.
But for the shading itself, I actually took a gradient square, made it black and then put it on the top layer and moved it where I needed it.
I changed the gradient to a black square just to show you what I mean:

And then I just moved the detail lines up a bit, and covered covered the gradient with purple where I needed to. To trim up the edges I just took the shape "Primitives - 36" , made them white and went along the edge to get the curve right, then I covered the rest with white squares.
I made the part covering the gradient black in this picture as an example:

And for the part that goes off onto the top section, I pretty much did the exact same thing. And I've only used 76 layers on the right side, so I think being a little sloppy and then trimming the edges can be more efficient than constantly trying to stay within the lines sometimes.

Only 76 layers on the right side? If remember correctly, the Rainbow Dash Cutie Mark I made consisted of roughly 130/140 layers, many of them were extremely small shapes that I used to smooth up the edges, but most were just circles that I resized and reshaped in order to create the cloud on her CM. I could have deleted a few layers though, but I just decided to leave it as it is. I'm probably going to make my own CM's for the rest of the Mane 6 when possible.


Anyway, due to the fact that PSN went down earlier (it's back up now though), I decided to read part 6 of The Sun is Tired. I need to read up to part 8 soon as I've been putting it off lately for various reasons.

July 5th, again: So, I hate editing. I don't mean like going over and refining word choice and the like, I mean basic typo-checking. my eyes just gloss over because I'm just reading what I MEANT to write instead of what I actually typed, and so I miss a lot of stuff.

TO THAT END, I'm hoping a few of you would be interested in pre-reading my stories. I'd normally go to ponychan or the like to do this, but I feel like the chapter is getting leaked early or something that way. Plus, it's easier to keep track of if I have a couple good people than a bunch of random guys on the net.

So, if you're interested, throw me a note on here or an email to raggnarok42@yahoo.com. I'll basically send you a finished copy of the newest chapter before I submit it, wait to get your edited version back, make said changes, and then submit it to DA, so you'll be getting the complete and finalized chapter. Probably. You'd also only be reading it a few hours before everybody else, so don't let that sway your decision.

I'm only looking to get 3-5 people in on this, but don't be shy about sending me emails. If you send me a note riddled with typos...I probably won't be picking you

And I think a Ferrari California would look cool as a car representation for Rarity. I guess it is kinda ugly as a convertible, but ever since I added the wing aero kit and got that fixed, I think it looks amazing.

Also, I'm taking a break from that car today. My eyes are practically bleeding because that and my computer screen are pretty much all I've been looking at for 4 days straight.
