Finished! I know the picture is not pretty, but it's just a quick sketch. I'll use paper for the final version.

His name is Star Fighter (or Star Chaser, I haven't decided yet)
The main reason he looks angry is because he dislikes day and bright colors. When he was young a Sonic RainBoom blinded him, when he was flying high above the rock farm. He crash landed hard.

He is 2 years older, than Rainbow Dash, but only slightly higher than her. He has dark black fur with a black mane that has red "feathers". Golden eyes. And a scar on his left cheek and shoulder from landing on the rocks. He has a limp front left leg - can't run fast. He loves night and sucks at daytime flying. His night flying skills are not known by anybody. During the day he is usually sleepy and clumsy. He has great eyes (can see in the dark really good) but bright light and colors hurt him during the day, the same goes with his hearing.
Night is his strength. He can fly really fast and pull huge G's on the turns. When turning he emits a red glowing trail.
He is brave and kind.
His cutie mark is a white star.

What can I say, It's a late evening, I am bored.

Edit: I also find it odd that so many of these apocalypse-style fics make it a specific point to kill Rarity to prove how serious the situation is. Its like she's a red shirt or the black guy in a horror movie or something.
