Hi friends.

I received my T500 wheel repaired from TM sat in France (a paddle shifter working bad). It works, but I´m not happy at all: now, the two paddles has a different feel and sound, and the new is more polised than the older.

I should accept to replace the complete paddles kit myself...

About the shifter announcement at Gamescon, any user with a good english speak could open a new non-official threat for the Thrustmaster TH8 RS.

Yeah I figured I'd give them a few more days til this convention is over before I send them another email or yell on their facebook page

So what do you mean the new paddles are "more polished" than the other? Is it a different color now or different material than before? Also, how long did you have to wait for the repairs? Hopefully you wasn't down too long. :scared:

I had wait 12 days for the repair (including the two shipments), plus another two days to get my RMA ID tag.

The rear profile of the new paddle is rounded than the older (old one has a sharper touch).

... now I have 2 new bases (V4) and my old broken (V2).
Why two new bases?.

I don't know. The next day after speaking with them, I new (V4) base was at my door.:)👍 Seven Days later another(still in box unopened), Then 3 Days later Broken (V2) was returned. Thrustmaster said " keep them"..👍

When you say "base", you refer to the wheel alone, or you received two complete T500 RS sets (including pedals)?.

I'm pretty sure he just meant the actual t500rs wheel base. Have you gotten use to those new paddles yet? I wonder what they look like I dont suppose you have a digital camera handy or does it just look almost exact same as the paddles we have now

THRUSTMASTER ANNOUNCES THE TH8 RS
A FULLY-ADJUSTABLE GEAR SHIFTER WITH SUPERIOR REALISM

New York, August 17, 2011 — Ready to meet the expectations of racing fans everywhere, Thrustmaster is launching the TH8 RS – a high-end, stand-alone, versatile gearbox. The device’s two configurations – H-pattern and sequential – enable drivers to select their favorite driving style.

Realism and versatility:

Some virtual drivers cannot imagine shifting speeds without using a specific gearbox. With the TH8 RS, which features unrivalled technical innovations supported by pending patent applications, Thrustmaster now offers a device that is realistic enough to satisfy even the most demanding drivers.

At first glance, the TH8 RS looks realistic enough to be fitted to a real car. It features a 5.12” tall stick with a removable knob; the stick is also compatible with actual universal gear shift knobs. The TH8 RS includes two interchangeable shift plates, each suited to a specific configuration – “H-pattern” (7 gears plus 1 reverse gear) and “Sequential” (pull the lever towards the “+” mark to gear up, and push it towards the “–” mark to shift down).

Total adjustability:

To allow users to freely adjust the TH8 RS to their convenience, the position and the rotation angles of the shift plate and clamping system can be adjusted by 360 degrees. The removable clamping system, optimized for any type of support, is also open to customization: it is suited to both table tops and shelves (1 to 55 mm thick) and cockpits alike (built-in “screw threads” are located under the TH8 RS). Gear strokes can also be adjusted (via a downloadable PC application and the device’s internal memory), as well as the gear shifter’s resistance.

Cutting-edge materials and technologies:

The internal mechanism, the lever, the outer housing and the clamping system are 100% metal. This robust design significantly contributes to the extremely realistic in-game experience delivered by the TH8 RS.

Thrustmaster has designed the TH8 RS with unrivalled precision, by including H.E.A.R.T (Hall Effect AccuRate Technology™) technology featuring magnetic sensor, without any potentiometers or tact switches – and therefore eliminating wear due to contact –, for an unlimited product lifespan. In addition, the firmware can be upgraded to offer all foreseeable evolutions, assuring users that the TH8 RS is here to make a lasting impression.

The TH8 RS with USB connectivity is compatible with the T500 RS racing wheel on PlayStation®3 (a list of compatible games is available on the Thrustmaster support website) and with all currently available racing wheels for PC.

The TH8 RS will be available in October at the suggested retail price of 149.99 €.

That would look very nice mounted to my VR3

Edit:
That clears up the red light theory also , it looks to be some alloy trim and not a light.

Oh snap, 149 Euros converts into like $213 for us dollars. no big surprise there but $150 would've been a little easier on the wallet. My guess is actual retail will be like $199

When you say "base", you refer to the wheel alone, or you received two complete T500 RS sets (including pedals)?.

Sandboxgod is correct.

Base= No wheel or pedals. Paddle shifters stay mounted to the base.

Yes I think the (V4) paddle shifters appear different than my (V2), less polished maybe.

Whoohoo... sounds like a hit! I bet they tested this thing over and over until they were sure about the reliability and durability of all it's mechanical parts.

Expensive, but that's how it is with fine equipment of any kind. Looking forward to the feeling of engaging gears and shifting sequentially as well. I was no fan of the G25 gearbox (never tried the G27) as it felt flimsy and the feeling wasn't there.

I hope the stick relaxes between 3rd and 4th gear in neutral, just like most real cars. Not that it's a big deal if it isn't.

Reminds me a bit of a Act Labs shifter:
http://www.act-labs.com/scripts/proddetails.asp?Pid=1019

Anybody ever had one of those? Been around for years and they have the interchangeable plates too. The constructions was nice and metal but the movement of the shifter was very "click-clackety" and it didn't rest in neutral. Hoping that TM got it right.

Also I haven't seen confirmation, will the shifter work with a G25/G27 in GT5 on PS3?

Hi Jedikd
i am of same anxiousness as you to know can this shifter be used with G27 wheels... it would be awsome man... This shifter really looks dam solid and fun to use! Hope we have news soon whether it can be used with G27/25 wheels...In my country if I were to buy T500rs the whole set with shifter will be close to $1000!!!!. What a price to pay to get the full fun and realism out of Gt5...Cheers pal...Make my Friday a great start off.

Yes guys this shifter will be compatible with any wheel as long as the game supports the shifter

Used with the PS3™, the gearbox is compatible with racing wheels (including the T500 RS) and games (**) that have been developed to be compatible.

Nice post Wildrun 👍

Man this shifter will be my #1 priority for sure. Cant wait to get my hands on this

My V1 wheel will not update to FW 37. I've tried several times uninstalling/reinstalling. It's stuck on 35. I also got around to trying hard mounting it. The one of the screw holes (right) is at a bad angle! Lest side is as straight as it should be.

Sent an email to tech support...

^ I had same issue. You probably didnt follow the directions on their site. version 37 has to be manually installed

The TH8 RS will be available in October at the suggested retail price of $179.99 YEOW!

Hope there's a discount or something :)

Interesting, that's a little cheaper than I estimated. I figured they'd go for the full $199 to takedown the Lightning SST Shifter (thought it retailed at $199). Unlike the leading PC shifters, this one also supports the PS3 which gives it an edge

Interesting I was right. Lightning retails for $179.99. This new shifter is also priced at that same point.

I can see this being at my door for $125-$150 soon.

Is the August Gt5 update gonna prep us for clutch and gear banging with the T500?

Very ready for this.

That thing looks beautiful... Well, other than the shifting knob looking like a light bulb, but who cares you can change it!

I wonder if on the PS3 the wheel will work with non-clutch wheels... Like if it could work with the DFGT for instance. Maybe an auto-clutch feature + gated shifter option will be patched in for GT5.

If it worked with the DFGT... Wow, you could map handbrake and reverse to the wheel's sequential shifter without losing shifter functionality.

I just contacted TM for some info about using the TH8 RS on the PS3 in combination with other wheels. They said: "We don't know if it works with other wheels. We didn't test it because we don't have the rights to test it with wheels like the G27 or DFGT. Because of that we only say that it's compatible with the T500 RS. We just don't know it yet".

I hope it works with other wheels:scared:

Unfotunately/fortunately (I'm not sure anymore), it working with other wheels will most likely depend solely on the game rather than the shifter or Thrustmaster. I sincerely hope GT5 is patched for additional hardware combinations.

yay! Finally...took long enough. Got a brand new OEM knob from my car waiting, now just need a leather boot and we're golden.

Everyday I've been checking...wow.

edit: why would the shifter for the OFFICIAL GT5 racing wheel not work with GT5? come on!<- I misread, sorry lol. excitement setting in.
edit2: and now that I think about it, I was actually expecting it to include a hand brake, don't know why. oh wells, drifters can tear.
