I received my wheel last week and put in nearly 8hrs on it. I have not experienced any fan issues at all. I actually thought i had a defect because it would never turn on even after an hour on GT5. Just a couple nights ago i did finally hear it after playing Dirt3 PC but it was barely noticeable. Seems like the fan only turns on when it needs to. Perhaps an improvement was made here? 👍

I'll check my version number. Is it under the wheel base and is it easy to identify? I didn't see anything on the box.

What ffb strength do you run GT on?

should be on the box, mine said V2.

its really a minor issue as it works flawlessly otherwise but obviously its not something that really should happen on a wheel of this caliber

maks
My pedal plate however seems to have a manufacturing defect along the edges. Kinda difficult to explain. Anyone else have this?

Looks like scratches left by the punch break used to bend it.

We use these at pur shop and they indeed leave this mark if not careful. Either to tight of die or loose. As well dirty dies. We spray the dies down with a slick oil. WD40 usually. This reduces tue marring.

I'd ask for a new piece that one should of been rejected.

Yeah thats exactly what it looks like. I sent thrustmaster an email 2 weeks ago and a follow up email last monday. Still haven't heard back.

I just noticed that while playing F1 2011, the T500 RS fan will actually shut off once the temperature cools down enough inside the wheel base. In GT5 and almost anywhere else I've experienced, it usually stays on all the time once it starts up, regardless of whether things get cool enough inside the wheel base.

Mine will come on for a while then turn off while playing GT5. It's never came on and stayed on

Then consider yourself fortunate Carson. What was the earliest firmware version that you have experienced this on?

Most people who noticed it not shutting off were early adopters. Maybe it has to do with something missing from earlier firmware versions.

F1 2011 is the first time on the PS3 for me where the wheel's fan shut off when the temperature inside the wheel base got cool enough. It doesn't happen in GT5, and it doesn't happen while the system is left on the home screen.

I have a V1 model, the thermostat works fine in mine. 99% playing GT5. Fan does shut down after it's given a chance to rest.

Seems it works properly for some and not for others. I know a couple of people who's fan works the same as mine, despite nothing else being out of place with their wheels. I have always regarded that behaviour as being normal for the T500, similar to that loud fan noise being a normal occurrence that really shouldn't be, but just is.

The wheel is V1 and I updated the firmware about a month or so ago. I also got a replacement fan and top cover because of the noise it made when it did come on in the 3/4 week of owning it. TM were very quick sending it out and replacing it myself I found very easy.

May I ask what is the point of this?
Voiding the warranty without any real reason (as far as I know T500RS's pedals are easily reversible)...plus it looks bad.

Not showin' how to reverse it ..I want to have more space between the pedals, that's a REAL reason for me, and that is enough for me to ditch the warranty for.... plus i get to do whatever to the staff i own, that include makin' them look bad 👍👍

I'm not sure how your wheel's fan behaved out of the box, but after firmware update and fan replacement, one would hope that it shut off properly when it's supposed to.

And record:
[ENGLISH]
CALIBRATING THE WHEEL AND THE WHEEL’S CENTRAL VALUE
If the wheel’s central value is not perfect in games or in the Control Panel:
* FIRMWARE UPDATE
1) Verify that the wheel’s firmware is up-to-date with the very latest version (V 37).
(Once the Force Feedback drivers have been installed, your wheel’s firmware version is displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the Control Panel tabs.)
2) Update the wheel’s firmware if the version displayed is earlier than version 37.
* PROCEDURE TO PERFECTLY CENTER THE WHEEL
1) Once the wheel is connected (and after the wheel has calibrated itself), turn the wheel completely to the left and then completely to the right.
2) Next, move the wheel to its perfectly centered position.
3) Simultaneously press and then release the “START + SELECT + MODE” buttons.
4) The wheel’s new central value is automatically and permanently saved in the wheel’s internal Flash memory
(note: do not repeat this procedure each time you reconnect the wheel).
IMPORTANT: Be sure not to not use this procedure too often, since there are a limited number of times that changes can be written to the wheel’s internal Flash memory.
= This procedure must be used only to modify the factory setting of the wheel’s central value.

The wheel and fan worked perfectly for the first 3/4 weeks, it would come on and turn its self off and be hardly noticeable. Then the fan started to get really loud and would make a very mechanical horrible noise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfAtTwy56Yg&feature=related
Just like in this link. As I said it is now replaced and works perfectly and the fan only comes on periodically and never stays on for long periods 👍👍
Going to make sure I've got the latest firmware now

I hope it stays that way man. 👍

I may look into getting the fan replacement as well if everyone else's replacement holds up. I can't stand how the fan never shuts off unless I plug it out.

Read further back in this thread, a guy did an upgrade to the fan with step by step instructions. With his he changed the existing fan with a higher quality quieter one and added two more. Which I think he runs the whole time the wheel is on. He was concerned with the heat coming from the circuit board. A mod I'm considering having done myself

I wish I had enough time to set aside to look into it. That is why I find this whole situation to be a pain in the ass. We pay a certain amount of money so we can just plug it in, use it, and have it work as advertised. Issues can arise with almost any product, but too much people have been complaining since the release of this product.

I'm usually working around 14 hours a day. Every now and then I get time to sit down for a few hours and do some serious gaming. The last thing I want to spend that time on is fixing up something just to play a game. I haven't seriously PC gamed in years for that exact reason.

Hey Dude, if you don't mind me calling you that. The fan upgrade is in page 239-240 of this forum. The guy that posted it, did an excellent job. The Fan replacement provided by Thrustmaster seems to be the exact same one that they originally installed. I don't think it's going to solve the problem. Plus most people are having to open the wheel and replace the casing for themselves. So as long as you're going to repalce the fan, might as well check out what this guy posted. Probably going to void your warranty, but at the same time your going to protect your motor and the circuits. Peace

Apologies in advance for asking a question that may have been answered....

I'm wondering if Thrustmaster is working on backwards compatibility for PS3 games? I'm hoping a firmware update can give us some sort of compatibility mode or generic wheel detection. Has there been any documented word on this? Have they stated why we can't play older games?

Even on PC I can't quite seem to play a recent game such as NFS Hot Pursuit.
