Yup, that's the thread I found the other day but it went cold two years ago with no details of ordering or prices (until someone posted in there today).

Same story back on page 187 of this thread (I've been searching).

I'll pm owensracing.

I've just joined the T500 club as my F1 version arrived from Amazon, one of those £295 units. I can confirm it's a V5 and definitely has both fixed and wheel paddles.

The fan is definitely noisy, something that's really surprised me as I move from a G27.

My biggest issue is that I left foot brake and on the G27 I swapped the clutch and brake springs and used the clutch pedal to brake. Simple reason for this is that when I use the middle pedal it hurts my back as I'm slightly twisting my back as I brake.

Where can I get an extra wide pedal from to make the brake more left-foot-brake friendly?

DC

Hi David, same thing here, I had a G25 before my T500RS and was using the clutch pedal to brake, which makes it much more comfortable (was having similar back aches). For my T500RS I switched the throttle pedal with the brake pedal, but I mounted the throttle pedal horizontally. Since the throttle pedal is taller than the brake pedal, mounting it horizontally gives you a wide brake pedal with better accessiblity using left or right foot for braking. No modifications are needed for this, by the way. Very easy to do and I hope it helps.

Great idea! Never thought of doing that.

I may try the switch tonight. Cheers!

Brilliant idea and this will also solve my pedal spacing issue for heel-toe.

Thanks :)

Hey guys.. This thread is huge so sorry if I missed it.

Can someone tell me how all the extra buttons on the f1 wheel could be useful for GT5?

All I am seeing is complaints about the T500's. Were the issues at hand fixed with the v4 or v5 (that I assume is version 4-5) Is it a good wheel?

Thanks.

I just got a new T500 and its a V2 and no complaints at all, works great and you do have two year warranty. I had a G27 and would never go back,

I've got a V1 and I don't have any issues either (I think) 👍.

The internet can make you think you DO have some new problem. Sort of like psychosomatic illnesses or hypochondria. Or the whole FUD thing. I just look at things using basic principles to help cut through some of the noise and claims. That's a great benefit to doing both subjective and objective testing, all of us can be fooled at times. So is there a real issue or not and is it significant? Ha!

Quote from my e-mail too Thrustmaster Support:
"Hi, im having some trouble with the rotation angle. Lets say the Wheel is locked to 720dg rotation, then i can turn the Wheel more than 1 full rotation to the right, but if i turn it left it will lock before i complete the rotation giving me less than 360dg to the left, and more than 360 to the right. The problem gets bigger if i use 1080dg, then i cant get full turn too the right, it will do the 540dg turn on Wheel and lock but is missing the last 1,5%. If i turn left the Lock comes on at 98,6%, and at 100% (full left turn) the Wheel giving me about 495dg and not 540dg rotation.

Sorry for poor expression. I can send a video, if needed."

Any one else had thís issue?

Thanx, now i'll give this a try!

Not normal in my opinion : (after 4 weeks of use)

* all the bolts seem to come loose on the GT-rim. Some of them could be tightend, but 2 are just mounted in but not tightend.... it looks that after some use the bolts get loose again.

* The Fan, whom I had no issues with in the first 2 weeks, does now make a loud noise when starting up, then the noise goes down again.

Will see how this all develops, and then probably end up writting an email to thrustmaster.

Oh, and some funny thing ; it is a V5, wich proves it does not matter what type it is, it can happen with all types....

Thanks! I mailed thrustmaster about it they mentioned the M6 but nothing about that. They sure must have stoppers for the drill holes so you actually have to destroy some plastic or metal cap before doing any real damage or do they not?

I will be replacing my fan and found a shot in the Thrustmaster instructions that addresses your question.

The red circles I drew show where the hard mount points for the wheel case protrude internally.

Notice that the PCB is directly below the internal metal support on the right side.
Too much pressure there from a bolt that is too long would not be a good thing.

How does the Thrustmaster shifter feel compared to the Logitech G27 or Fanatec?

The Fanatec shifters are relatively cheap in price, but made entirely of plastic, the G27 has both metal & plastic construction, the TH8Rs is mostly metal. Post #7 on this thread has the internals of all 3 shifters on display:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=7938120#post7938120

-------------------------------
Fanatec Porsche shifter set is $30.00, the CSR shifter set is $60.00.

Standalone G27 Shifters can be had for around $35 on eBay.
An FL2 adapter for a Fanatec wheel will cost you $45.00

The TH8RS can cost as much as 2.5X the price of the Fanatec CSR shifter set if its not on sale.
If you have a Fanatec wheel then you have the additional cost of an SFA1 adapter.
(about 1.5X the price of a CSR shifter set)

Thrustmaster: Solid, feels like a sim shifter, not necessarily a real car shifter. Has a nice *thunk* when going in gears. Great immersion feel when racing.

G25/G27: Solid, though less "weighty" feeling than the Thrustmaster, much looser feeling than the Thrustmaster. Still a very good shifter in my opinion for the price. You can bang on it pretty good without worry.

Fanatec: Plastic internals on both CSR and older versions. Feels like you are shifting a plastic shifter. Loud clicking when shifting into each gear. If you are rough with it, the knob can snap off. Good "enough" if you just want a cheap shifter, but there are better comparably priced options available... If you look...

I would not have bothered making an adapter so people could use the first two shifters I listed with a Fanatec wheel, if the Fanatec shifters were already good enough.

Few tips about fan...

drill holes with a 2.0mm drill bit first, after that with 2,5mm

make a connector for possibly easier changing fan

I hope that this will help a bit :)

Just picked up a T500 RS from Overclockers UK before I saw this thread. The price has gone back up a bit to 329 (but I have free next day delivery with them). I couldn't see any version numbering on the boxes but the underside shows that both pedal and wheels are V4. Although the white box had its 4 circular seals intact, the outer brown box had its seals broken and redone a few times by the look of it. The way people have been getting V2s in V4 boxes, really make me wonder if this cheaper batch are in some way reconditioned/reworked units in some way. The only slight imperfection I found so far was the black metal frame at the back of the pedal unit has a few scuffs in it.

Does anyone actually know any specific physical changes made in V5?

So far all is working. The fan is certainly not quiet though, although it hasn't developed the issue where it starts even noisier just yet.

I noticed on another forum that there is an official fan replacement that puts a bigger and quieter fan further inside the unit. Are Thrustmaster actually making a V6 then that already includes this fan?

I also picked up the Ferrari wheel and gear shift unit although as my primary purpose is a PS3, the gear shift unit might have been a bit of a waste of money.

The instruction book had the wrong instructions for applying the brake mod. I found a later revision online that showed removing the plastic finger guards near the brake pedal and then it all made sense.
