I got a lot of questions how to detach the wheel from the base, so I made a video.
Hope it's helpful..

Do you need to remove all 6 screws? Looks like the hub has only 3 standoffs.

EDIT:

Regarding the pic from SimHQ, do you have to remove something else to get to this plug or is this a diff version of the wheel?

First post on the forum. I've been reading all this 128 pages in the last week and have just finished it now, so I won't waste any time asking you guys if the T500 RS is worth it, I'm decided to buy it.

However, this will not be that easy, I'm from Brazil and I'll be travelling to the USA on the next week, staying in New York for 6-7 days. I guess the best way to purshase it would be on Frys, and doing it before travelling (here in Brazil) since there's a preorder delay before it's ready for shipping, and I won't stay in the city for the required time (10-12 days like some of you said above). So I'd have to talk to a Frys seller and try to determine the exact shipping date in a period I'll be in the hotel.

I wonder if you guys that have already bought the T500 could tell me the dimensions of the box, I could not find it on any site, even on TM's site. And also I'd like you to help me if there's a better way to buy it than this way I discribed.

Thank you all!

Might be dumb to be asking this but... did anyone tried to fit an aftermarket wheel on the T500 yet? Seems like its possible...

sorry just re-read your post and sorry if i am misunderstanding it...it seems like you want to purchase the T500 while in NEW YORK at a FRY'S and if you want to purchase it via internet why cant you do it from brazil?

Being able to swap buttons is great and all. But, what provisions has TM made to put the ever so critical buttons on after market wheels?

And using music instead of talking to us in this short video ruins the video.

Why don't you just buy it while visiting and then ship it to yourself using a courier the day before you fly back?

I think there is another way to remove the entire wheel from the base. The way you remove it is the same way you can remove the wheel from the G27 and possibly other wheels as well.

I could be wrong though.

If the T500RS had not come along and I did not have the XBox360 and Forza3 to use the Fanatec GT2 on, I would not be keeping it over my tried and tested G25 setup and would be either selling it on eBay or sending it back to Germany - because the overall improvment and experience of the GT2 with GT5 was not so much better than the G25 as to offset the warts of the whole package.

RC45, I've read this from you before and I hope you don't mind another viewpoint. I have the GT2, G25, had the DF Pro (gave it away) and the DF EX.

I have a couple of big problems with the G25 in GT5. It is too hard to turn the wheel, even with the FF dialed to lowest setting in the game, with several cars. Most notably the X2010, Ferrari F2007 and FGT. With the GT2 you can dial that down to little or nothing.

The other problem is a fixed 900 degrees with no linearity with the G25. Some games have adjustable linearity so you don't have to turn the wheel so much to get the car to turn. GT5 doesn't. On many cars you need to turn the wheel 300 degrees in one direction to get the car around a track. GT2 has both adjustable total wheel movement and linearity. Very big for me.

Then there is the Club Sport Pedals. Like a guy in a video review said, the brakes are so good it's cheating. No kidding. Amazing brake control. You stop much faster and the pedal and wheel vibrates when the brakes lock.

Plus the GT2 has adjustable wheel vibration, return to center, and damper settings so you can make it the way that feels best to you.

So for me, the GT2 is light years better than the G25.

Great to see every seller in the UK putting back release dates. Unless you want to pay £460 with Amazon, it looks like you're gonna have to wait another 18 days. This is the worst launch i've ever seen. The wheels should have been in the stores the week before launch just like they do with games. Atleast then the launch date would have been the 11th or so which wouldn't have mattered because we wouldn't be expecting it on the 5th.

Knowing that it's made in China, who make things in their millions in no time, what exactly has went wrong with this?

Isn't that what this photograph shows?
Nope.

You can see on my "X-rays" :P that there is an opening where the hub is on your photo. And the wheel is still attached to the hub (X-rays) and not on your photo.

I could be wrong but I'm convinced that that is the way the wheel detaches from the base for future upgrades.

Isn't that what this photograph shows? Rotatate wheel 180* to bring the screw normally at the bottom to the top - remove screw and then pry wheel hub loose.

THe hub seems to be a tight friction fit.

Wow, pretty slick.

While the country of China as a whole is a production powerhouse, individual manufactures need to order based on expected demand. If the product sells out, a new production run needs to be ordered and shipped.

But I am sure you already knew that :)

Because Frys offers a shipping that costs incredible $600!

Carrying it on my luggage is not a problem, the point is knowing when it will get shipped, since I'll be in the city just for 6-7 days, and the preorder delay could last from 3 days to 15 days or even more. Do you guys think it's possible to determine precisely the delivery date?

Thanks!
