Will the current Articles of Impeachment ever be sent from the House to the Senate?

That old favourite "USA is not a democracy" also crops up a few times.
Ah, that old one.

They do get confused when you explain that a Republic, particularly in the form the US takes, is simply one type of democratic government.

It's amazing how much some people hate representative democracy so much.

There's a big display about the Berlin Air Lift at the Air Force Museum near me. It highlights a lot of Soviet propaganda and all that. These are the types of folks who walk through a display like that and think, "Wow, I can't believe how brainwashed those people were by all the propaganda" and not even think twice that it could happen to themselves. They literally think they're better, stronger, smarter humans than those other people were. They'll say they don't believe that but their lack of learning speaks a different truth. And then obviously their actions show that they're no better or smarter or infallible than anybody else on the planet.

We're Americans, we're exceptional right? That's what our dads tell us, if you're lucky enough to have one.

You're not alone, Britain does a good line in exceptionalism as well, just look at Brexit!

Brexit Supporters: "The EU will give us the same deal when we leave as we had when we were in, and we will be able to negotiate in an afternoon over a cup of tea!"
Rational Person: "Why on earth would they do that?"
Brexit Supporters: "Because we're British...."

That was basically the logic behind a lot of the support for it, along with the assumption that every other nation on earth would fall over themselves to give us trade deals in a heartbeat that would, of course, favour us over the EU (or anyone else for that matter). Facts and logic be damned, it would happen because it's our god-given right as the British!

And if you have one, you would be lucky to have a good one:
Here is one who thinks he has a role model Dad:

but the good/funny starts here actually:

The whole monologue is hilarious

I'll pass on getting my news from a night show comedian...
Will you also pass on using your deductive skills to sift through potential bias and humor to discover the facts of the story? Whether a presenter does it stoically or humorously they're still presenting the facts. It's your job to identify them. It's all of our jobs to sift through what is unnecessary to find what is necessary.

Here's a fact: Eric Trump is irrationally proud of the job his historically unpopular father did as President. That also happens to be equal parts funny and sad, and comedians seem to agree, but it's still a fact.

Fair point. But at least he has the decency to call himself one. There are others masquerading as journalists and newscasters.

I believe so yes.

It's all about the source, not about the content. [/s]

@ryzno

It's quite sad, (funny), disturbing for a country when comedians are actually speaking and point out the truth and the absurd more so than members of the press and newscaster...

you should be careful to not only look at the source, but also go two levels down and ask yourself what is the rational for why they are putting any information out a certain way...

There are many subtlety in speech...

Well after 4 years of bashing with a dash of news I'm done with night shows. I'm still waiting for Biden and Harris to be SNLs nightly running joke.

I am not sure why you would criticize humor and comedy... during dark times, no matter the party in power, and for me it was true during the past 5 years, especially 2020, comedy saved my sanity...

without it, i think i would have gone mad with all the "serious" news just not doing their job... heck this government on either side of the aisle, are barely doing their job... It is a joke.

I just think it is better to leave to the Pros to handle jokes ;) : comedians.

EDIT: @ryzno, for me it was the opposite, i have been so frustrated watching the 'serious' news getting nowhere, and circling 24h on end, i turned myself to comedy when it is just more straight to the point... and at least it cheered me up even if they are lying...

I agree but on a daily basis 24 hours a day it gets old regardless of the side.

Truth is, comedy hosts like Kimmel, Fallon, Colbert, Noah, Oliver, et al mocked Trump so much less because they're just offended liberals who want to convince everyone to hate the man, but because there's simply a never-ending subject matter. Yes, Biden has his gaffes from time to time but it pales in comparison by a mile to Trump saying something outlandish basically every day, let alone the literally tens of thousands of Tweets he's put out.

It's definitely gotten old. The problem is, Trump is so awful - he's beyond satire, beyond parody. In addition, he takes himself so seriously that he has absolutely no sense of humour. In order to return to a "normal" ability to satirize all political leaders the stench of Trump has to be erased from American politics ... & that is still far from happening.

Making comedy out of Trump wasn't even hard. You could do an absolutely straight-faced read of his activities and tweets most days and it would just come off as wicked satire. The dude was basically impossible to write The Onion articles about because there was nothing wacky enough that it was unbelievable that Trump would do or say it.

Bush was the same to a lesser degree, with his endlessly quotable mis-speakings. Biden and Obama are so terminally boring that there's very little there to actually mock other than their boringness itself, and that's just not a very funny joke.

A lot of people think the constant lying, the bat-crap crazy tweeting, the corrupt enrichment of Trump and his family, the ludicrously inept foreign policy, the resurgent white nationalism, and all the other embarrassments of having that man in office on a daily basis got old.

I'm glad to see that you're focused on addressing the more important problems.

Trump has quit the Screen Actors' Guild (before it had a chance to expel him).

In response, the union has released a two-word statement in response: "Thank you". I could think of another two-word response they could perhaps instead have made, but let's stay classy here.

I made a mistake "giving him a chance" at the beginning but quickly realized everything from his character to his culture to his actual policy positions were all isolationist. Everything about him as a person, his demeanor, how he treats others, it's all the type of behavior that makes people dislike you and will eventually get you stuck in a small crowd who thinks they're better than everyone else, but in fact is the opposite precisely because they won't cooperate with anybody else. Isolationism universally fails in the end, always has and always will.

The Onion probably could have not done any better even if they tried to fake a letter imitating trump...
but honestly: This is a disgrace and a shame to be writing this sort of letter...

... is this even a real letter ? i just cannot believe it could be... What a clown... and i apologize to all clowns...

The only thing i gave him was.... the benefits of my doubts.... but that quickly went away...

"So-called" anything is just pure Karen. I refuse to recognise your "so-called Disciplinary Committee", what are they going to do? Meet and discipline me? Ha!
