The wheels on the new CR-V are pretty unattractive.

Even worse though are the Tesla Model 3's wheel design. What is it with EVs and such appalling rims?

If you notice, most EVs and hybrids have closed off / smooth style wheels; the reason is to eliminate drag and give better fuel economy. The original Honda Insight is the best example. Not saying you aren't wrong about them being terrible looking, but they are designed that way for a decent reason.

Renault Trafic wheels

Swear these were standard on the Pontiac 6000.
Well, whaddayaknow? Close enough.

I'm pretty sure those hubcaps came from the Dodge Spirit but nevertheless, they're pretty ugly.

Interesting how many aero-style wheels have been mentioned here. I quite like most of the ones shown - the Volvo DRIVe ones, the e-Golf ones, the Honda Insight wheels mentioned.

I like the way they look partly because I appreciate the functional reasons they were chosen, but also because of the visual association of smoother designs with possibly only a few cutouts with the sense that it's more aerodynamic. When the vast majority of OEM alloy wheels have little more than visual benefit alone (particularly some of the overly-complex modern designs also in this thread) I welcome designs that are more functional.

I also disagree with some of the boxy 80s designs like those Chevy wheels and the Citroen BX wheels shown here. As @Michelin Man mentioned in his post, they often perfectly suited the boxy shapes they were attached to, and had a real graphical feel that again has been lost with modern wheels with intricate spokes. As well as aerodynamics, I think there's something quite satisfying about wheel designs that in some way reference the strength of the wheels, given the forces wheels are put through.

Surprisingly, the Leaf has one of these for the 1st generation base model. I thought it'd look better on something older than that but nope.

I've always disliked those faux wire wheel / lattice alloys that were fitted to quite a few cars in the 80's and 90's particularly BMW's. Especially those with split effect bolts running around the rim :yuck:

Also seen on some Jag's.

Allow a bump, please.

The Pagani Zonda R wheels aren't my favorites, they're quite generic,

However, they look slightly better on a Huayra.

Generic? GENERIC??????

I don't agree in the slightest. They're great.

I love crossspokes like those. Such an iconic look from the 80s and 90s.

I would say just this style of wheel in general. It was cool at first, but as always, once everyone started doing it then it became played out.

I can't say I was ever really a fan to begin with...but yes. Please stop. They just look heavy, cheap, and unsporting to me.

I've been seeing quite a few E39s roll through my work. Most have some inoffensive wheels, but then there's ones like these Style 19 wheels. Looking like a cheap aftermarket wheel of the 90s/early 2000s.

2022 Bentley Bentayga S. The actual wheel design isn't too bad, but holy crap they really did copy-and-paste them from the Accord Sport.

I'll admit that the trend of angled two tone wheels needs to end. It looks cheap on both of them. (Yes, even for the Accord.) The worst is when you need to do a tire rotation.

I'll admit I'm not too big on the Dallas wheels on my GTI.

They do make it look like it's moving backwards, despite standing still. Visual weight of the spoke when stationary, I guess.

Unpopular opinion, but I think these wheels look tacky.

Also these Pagani Huayra wheels look off to me too.

On the other end of the spectrum regarding price points, these Ford Fiesta wheels:

Another one I was reminded of, after seeing in person today. The Lexus UX 18" wheels with a machined face and gloss black spokes....
