The Ultimate List of Akagi Downhill Times
With the arrival of the JDM DLC, I found myself running an unusual amount of laps (if you can call them laps) at Akagi Downhill. So, influenced by all those GT6 laptime boards, I've decided to compile my times into a list, and share it with everyone here.
I intend to only test road cars or road-related cars. You won't see the WRC mod cars topping this list, nor will you see F1 cars, at least ones made post 1977.
All cars were run with the stickiest tires they could be fitted with. All cars were run with 10 liters of fuel. All cars were run with no assists. The track grip was set to optimum, the time was set to 14:00, the ambient temperature was set to 17 C, and the weather was set to clear. Fuel consumption, tire wear, and tire blankets were enabled. All setups are default aside from fuel and tires. All of these settings are completely arbitrary, but they're what I'm using.
I'm using the time in the top right when I finish the run, not the sector time. The sector time would probably be a little more accurate, but I'd have to redo every single one of these laps to switch to it. Plus, I feel the entire time is a little more telling about the performance of the car if this was to be treated as a downhill race, since it includes a standing start. I could also just start doing the times using hotlap mode instead of practice mode. I'll probably redo the list eventually.
Most of these times have a few seconds left in them. I can't do perfect runs of this track every time quite yet. I'll probably end up improving on some of the worse runs after running more cars. None of these passes include spins, at least.

- KTM X-Bow R - 2:59.1 - Semislick - No surprises here. Felt very fast. Balanced. Just enough power. Gears were great. Like it was made for this course. Required some persuasion to rotate.
- Pagani Huayra - 2:59.6 - TopGear Record - Very overpowered. Tires had a lot of grip. Rotated well for the most part. 1st gear was often a little too short, 2nd gear was often a little too long. Surprisingly stable; most crashes were caused by underestimating the entry speed due to the immense power.
- Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera - 3:00.6 - Semislick - Understeered and oversteered on power. Very good out of corners regardless. Gears were setup well. Felt nimble, though didn't want to rotate as much as was necessary.
- Mclaren MP4-12C -3:01.2 - Semislick - Very nimble. Just a little too much power. Lots of understeer on braking. Feels like a car designed to be driven with assists enabled.
- Nissan GTR Nismo - 3:01.6 - Hypercar Road - Felt very slow and altogether too stiff for the touge. Felt heavy. First gear was often too short, second was often too long. Very hard to shift with paddles while moving the wheel as much as required with 900 degrees of rotation. Difficult to control. Often spun. A car for circuits, not roads.
- Lotus 2 Eleven - 3:03.7 - Semislick - Great out of corners. Felt understeery, yet light. Car went completely straight when the brakes locked. Disappointing that it couldn't match the X-Bow. Felt very stiff. Often Spun. A car for circuits, not roads.
- Ferrari 458 Italia - 3:03.9 - Semislick - Good balance of performance. Chassis felt very good. Power was not overwhelming. Hid its large mass well.
- Mazda MX5 Cup - 3:04.0 - Slick - Incredible grip around corners. Felt almost too fast. Felt very stiff. Difficult to control. Often spun. A car for circuits, not roads.
- Audi R8 V10 Plus - 3:04.8 - Semislick - Felt heavy and very slow. Good out of corners. Did not want to rotate at all. Like a slower GTR Nismo. This time was surprisingly fast.
- Alfa Romeo 4C - 3:05.8 - Semislick - Felt very nimble. Incredible corner grip and speeds, some of the best here. Could perhaps use more power. Sometimes refused to downshift when asked to. Would be faster with a manual gearbox.
- Mercedes SLS AMG - 3:07.3 - Semislick - Good in the corners. Steering was fast and direct. Hid its immense mass well. A little too powerful.
- RUF RT12 R AWD - 3:08.0 - Semislick - Couldn't embrace the entirety of its massive power on the short straight sections. Felt a little heavy. Didn't want to rotate. Understeered a lot.
- Mazda RX7 Tuned - 3:08.2 - Semislick - Rather straightforward. Fast in a straight line and around corners.
- Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray - 3:08.3 - Semislick - Required unreasonable persuasion to rotate. Its gigantic turning circle was clearly evident. Slow in slow corners, reasonably fast in fast corners. Felt just a little too powerful. A car for wide circuits, not thin roads.
- Toyota AE86 Tuned - 3:10.7 - Semislick - Great cornering speeds. Perhaps a car more oriented towards circuit driving than roads. Lacks power.
- Nissan Skyline R34 V-spec - 3:10.8 - Semislick - Rather straightforward. Great out of corners. Still room for improvement.
- Ford Escort - 3:10.9 - 70s Slick - Great in the corners. Felt very fast. Reasonably difficult, though not as hard as the MX5 cup. Stock gear ratios are horribly long for this road. Would like to try and improve this time.
- Nissan 370z - 3:11.0 - Semislick - Rather straightforward. Surprisingly quick. Overcame its weight well.
- Toyota Supra Time Attack - 3:11.6 - Semislick - Felt very heavy. Could not use all of its power at once. Felt too stiff. A car for circuits, not roads.
- Mazda RX7 Spirit R - 3:14.2 - Semislick - Felt rather fast. Good cornering speeds.
- BMW M3 E30 - 3:14.9 - Semislick - Was not hesitant to rotate. Rather straightforward.
- Ford Mustang 2015 - 3:15.8 - Semislick - Very heavy. Slow in the corners. Rotated alright for its weight.
- Mazda MX5 2016 - 3:18.3 - Semislick - Very fast through corners. Chassis is great, brakes are incredible. Power is the limiting factor.
- Toyota AE86 Drift - 3:18.5 - Semislick - Felt a little too oversteery. Otherwise it was fine.
- Toyota GT86 - 3:18.8 - Semislick - Rather straightforward except the gears felt off for the course.
- Toyota Supra Drift - 3:18.9 - Semislick - Horribly overpowered. Wheels spun every time boost engaged. Clearly a car made for going sideways slowly around corners. Felt very heavy. A complete mess. Very difficult. Time could be improved if I could be bothered. Awful.
- Toyota Supra - 3:20.0 - Semislick - Felt very heavy. Otherwise it was a fine drive. Not the quickest pass.
- Toyota AE86 - 3:29.8 - Street - Felt fast, though lacking in power and grip from the tires.
Tires are very important on this course, since it's basically 90% corners. So you'll notice that cars with slicks are very quick, and cars with only street tires (just the base AE86 at the moment) are
very slow.
Expect this list to be updated with new entries periodically.
