He was having creative differences with the producers of the show and has chosen to leave. Instead of having someone like Daryl step in as leader they are replacing Rick with one of the creators of the show. He is going to become the new leader. How Rick exits is still being kept under raps but it will be the beginning of next season.
No they are killing the character off all together from what the last details said. They are trying to reach an agreement due to fan outrage but it is still up in the air whether they can encourage him to stay.
Oh that's how you can watch in England! I've been downloading it every week purely cause I didn't think you could watch here and that's they're going to show it like 6 months late or something.
I'm not surprised. As much time as they spent leading up to this, of course they're going to make us wait til' the fall to see what happens now. The only closure this season was killing off everybody & saving the rest from the Governor.
That was easily one of the worst season finales of a show I have ever seen, to build something up like that and not really settle it is just crap. I almost quit watching the show during season 2 and I wish I would have. Season 2 ended well but there was FAR too much down time and drama, this season was worse. I feel without a more revolving cast or unless they get on the road the show is done (well, it is to me). Nearly every episode of s2 I was asking myself when are they gonna leave this damn farm and they never did, then they went and did it again just this time with the prison. I'm disappointed with about 75 percent of the episodes so I think it's a good stopping point.
It also seems to me that the production value has dropped, I've noticed more and more scenes with bad lighting and editing but that could just be because I'm getting more into video production myself so I'm noticing these things.
Production value has dropped a lot. I'm not really sure why but the network cut the budget even tho the show is pretty popular which is is weird. I like the show but I find myself not being totally entranced anymore. It's not that dramatic where I have to look the whole time. I still like it tho. Meril last ep was cool I kinda think that should of been in this ep to just have so much crazy stuff coming at you but it also would of been less focus on it so not totally sure it would of been better. This governer has like 2 friends now and I assume Rick's group will take over Woodbury. Ya its a show etc but I definitely would of shot the governor once I saw him gun down the entire crew for no reason.
I just finished Episode 15 of 16 last night and the 2nd half of Season 3 just feels rushed like they are out of resources. This series is going downhill quick and needs to end.
Especially Episode 15 of Season 3.
I could not believe how lazy there were with the car driving scene with Meril. Did anyone notice that at one point it was a completely different car with different tires??!!! Went from 20" wheels to about 15" wheels then back to 20" wheels. And whats with the ultra lame proposal scene at the prison??? Just hands her a ring and she says yes? That has to be one of the most lame proposal scenes ever in history. So disappointing. However it was very sad the Merle and Daryl scene. Poor Daryl.
Just feels to me like they want to end the show or are just running out of resources. I have not watched the last episode yet (episode 16) but I really have no interrest in the Walking Dead anymore after season 3. Most of it has been so predictable the last few episodes. Just getting disappointing IMO.
If you really enjoy the series I would recommend just stopping after Season 3 episode 9. Just seems to fall on its face after that season finale of Episode 8. Just my opinion.
Do you watch TV? That's how every drama ends a season. We are lucky we didn't get a "to be continued" cliffhanger.
That said, a lot was resolved.
The Governor's power is gone. He has no community hanging on his every word and doing whatever he says. Whatever becomes of the Governor after this, he won't have an army behind him, but he will be driven by rage and bloodlust, which may make him an even bigger threat.
In a long form show you cannot afford to constantly create a new villain every season or just have the threat be mindless zombies. A recurring villain, always at risk of coming around the next corner, is a plot device that can be used to prevent long, dull periods when the story would otherwise require it.

How was this season worse? We lost half the original cast vs season 2 sacrificing most of Herschel's group. The confrontations were of both a psychological and physical nature and we weren't left in a bubble without walkers for stretches at a time.

They were always looking for a place to settle and take shelter. It's human nature and shelter is a basic requirement of life. Making them constantly wander wouldn't fit the situation or even feel believable. It has been stressed all this season that being on the road is dangerous in this world.

I'm not sure exactly what you want from the show, but the theme is about the human condition and civilization. It has been the entire subtext of this season and was thrust in our faces last night.
We had two views of this world: You kill or get killed vs protecting that which make us a civilization. The situation began as Rick was dealing with how best to lead, then the Governor fully embracing the idea of killing all that he can't control, and finally with Carl deciding every death he has witnessed was caused by them not killing someone before. Carl is like a little Governor. Rick is now tasked with saving our humanity and civilization as a whole, and it has to start with his own son, because Carl represents the future. If Carl can't be saved then what hope is there for the future of all mankind?
It also seems to me that the production value has dropped, I've noticed more and more scenes with bad lighting and editing but that could just be because I'm getting more into video production myself so I'm noticing these things.
TV is a tricky place for production. Multiple things can play a part here. First of all is we are going into our third showrunner. That will affect everything from story to final editing. The second is a combination of shooting schedule and shooting in multiple locations. This isn't a studio and it isn't 60-90 days to produce two or three hours of final footage. This is less than a week per hour. All production is completed in four months for what would take almost a year and a half to do for a movie. Sometimes you can't get the perfect shot. Sometimes your budget won't allow the effect you want. And then when you are editing together scenes shot with different crews from different places that the various differences do kind of stand out.
If you want to make a career in video production TV is steady work that will kill you. Live TV is the worst.
Ultimately, I enjoyed this season. The story didn't hold back and the characters took on a lot of changes. We even got to see Beth kill her first on camera zombie. The story moved outside just the threat of walkers and presented the threat of other humans and even ourselves. There were a few moments where the story couldn't combine character development and story progression that felt like they held things up, but most of that added up in the last few episodes.
I also think Season 1 and 2 wer the best. The first Half of Season 3 was great but it dropped right off after Season 3 Episode 8 and 9. I will watch the very last Episode tonight but I am sure I am done with this series after this season.
To be fair, if it's so horrifically bad, stop watching and go watch Family Guy, Trailer Park Boys, or any of the other amazing shows on TV that are far better.
Exactly, even at its worst, Walking Dead still beats the majority of what's out there.
We dont have cable so we ended up purchasing the last 8 episodes. Wont happen again. As I said, the series was truly great until the last half of season 3. We wont be purchasing anymore of these.

I agree completely. Season 3 was super disappointing to me. It felt like the stretched out the Governor storyline for way to long, trying to make it interesting but instead annoying IMO. There were some good moments between some characters (Merl and Darryl, the return of an old character, Mischon and Carl) but for the most part it just frustrated me. I will watch season 4 but at this point I see it being out of habit and not necessarily enjoyment, like the last season of The Office.
My main issue with the show is that it stopped being about the walkers. Even in season 2 when they were on the farm for 15 years or whatever it was the main threat was the undead on your doorstep. However in season 3 they became a side attraction. I don't like that. I love the undead and they were the reason I fell in love with the show at the beginning. I hope they are more central in season 4. Maybe a walker should stroll on in and take someone out who's been focal to the storyline. To show just how dangerous they still are.
I loved the finale, wasn't perfect, but very good and something that took me a bit by surprise, eventhou I read the comics. So how it could be so forseeable is beyond me.
And that the focus is not on the walkers is quite clear.
They are in the 2nd year in the storyline, the group can handle Zeds, and Zeds are slow and stupid. They are not the threat.
Crazy people are the threat. And I bet you that the governor is still a sane caracter compared to what others out there are (no spoiler, just deduction and hypothesis)
And that the governor is still alive is baffling, because he is a loose cannon now. How he is a bad villan is also beyond me. Okay he is not after world domination, but come on. He is pretty bad ass, and they toned him down a lot in the series because what he did in the movies wouldn't be allowed that way to be shown on TV.
Awesome series. Now waiting for season 4. No idea what's gonna happened.
And
Andrea's dead, finally thank god for killing her off
The focus is of the show is people dealing with living in an apocalyptic-type world where the most dangerous threat is other people, not the undead.
The show has already focused a few episodes this season & last on the Walkers and the group's interactions with them. They are always presented as a threat, but the show can not last on them alone. This is a horror drama show.
In a zombie apocypse, any apocalypse, the threat is not just the cause of the apocalypse. Unless you expect to convince your audience that the only survivors are a handful of people who just happened upon each other in Georgia you cannot tell the story without talking about other threats, what humans become as they survive and strive for after the crisis ends. The sociological aspect is massive and not including it is going to leave a lot of two dimensional characters.
What story can you tell for years that just has humans all working together to not get eaten without becoming stale very fast?
