My watch, I've had it for about 18 month now. I like it.

.............................................

I hadn't heard of them so I had a bit of a look see - the Moon dust one is pretty cool, although I am am skeptical of how he would have procured any given NASA has it all. Did you you know you can get watches with meteorite rock as dials too?

I was skeptical myself (and not surprised at anyone who would be skeptical either; I've actually met people who still think the moon shot was fake!)
Since the info came from my fourth Annual Watch catalog (a Feature Edition of the Dupont Registry) and edited by no less than Jamie Hyneman himself, I had to believe what I read. I don't think the NASA 'undercover agents' are pleased with this, pocket protectors and all.
I would think though, that apart from the several missing samples, those that were gifted to other countries and even the fifty States, may have fallen into the 'wrong' hands, and are now facing time.
I have always wondered though: why doesn't NASA actually sell the rock they mine? Don't they feel something is owed to them for all that hard work? Or is it a political thing; after all if a country starts mining the moon (and who wouldn't like to have a chunk of the real Moonstone around their necks or wrists?) then all the countries might get into it as a commercial venture - and as technology improves, it will become a commercial venture available to the public . . . and there goes our moon. Whittled away to a crescent, and we're definitely not going to have a full one. Poor werewolves!
Yes, I've heard about the meteorite watches, and there are a few others in the catalog that blow my mind - including the $335,000 Rotunde de Cartier Astroregulateur designed by movement developer Carole Forestier, a watch that has the balance and escapement mounted on the swinging winding rotor (which configuration, according to Forestier, reduces the positional errors that plague mechanical watches without actually making a tourbillon.) Obviously, another way to try and beat gravity.
I like the Rebellion, IWC, and Chris Aire models but the faces that seem to attract me the most come from Ulysse Nardin. Just . . . classic, fabulous faces that one can watch all the time. ;) And totally out of my league at this point.

The Constellation is exquisite - a classic watch that I used to dream of owning when I was a teen. Even the face of the Jules Audemars Extra-thin watch (which is similar) has a hard time competing with the simple, clean look of the Constellation.

Which reminds me of the swing towards 'pink gold' and 'rose gold' in watches lately. Seems to be some kind of trend; I've noticed many people wearing watches that have some rose gold in the strap, dial or case. Will it catch on? Only time will tell.

As for me . . . still looking for that Seiko to add to my blacklist.
The new Bulova is great - I'm enjoying every second of it. :)

 at the first world problems. Love both watches Mike. Omega does have a classic look to it, and it doesn't look small at all, at least not in the photo. TAG, well.........

Politically it probably wouldn't sit too well given how much money it cost to fund Apollo, so they'd want to hold onto the scarce resource it produced. And, as you point out, I am sure it would encourage ideas about trying to retrieve more samples, for purely commercial reasons. We've already stuffed up one planet - no need to stuff up the moon too!

I like Rose Gold tones on watches - it's a bit more subtle then normal gold but still very elegant. I've only really noticed it on a few Hamilton's and a Tissot or two.

Thanks for the kind words :)

Which one are you seeking - I had a look back in the thread to see if you posted any pics, but couldn't find any...:embarrassed:

Errrrrrm, yeah. Unfortunately I have broken the pin that holds the strap to the watch face, so I am just waiting for a new one and for the cover that hides it away, I can take pics in its current state if you would like?

Your call, it's not every day one gets to see a Breitling for Bentley version, so happy to see pics with or without the strap :).

I'm going camping this weekend and decided I needed a knock around watch. Nothing says knock around more than a Timex Weekender. Snagged it for $30 off of Amazon/

I also bought my girlfriend a Swatch Filamente sine she only has one watch and I figured I'd bought enough watches for myself for the time being (ok maybe not  ).

Nato options FTW 👍

Or is it a replica?

The lack of more pics after two days, on the unscientific basis that that bracelet looks distinctly un-OEM when compared to this image, that the red arrow on the lower left of the bezel is wildly out of place versus the image of a OEM one, that there is no date and that the sub dials are out of alignment and the incorrect orientation of the Breitling spacing on the dial relative to the center pinion - I am thinking replica unfortunately. Not helping is that they cost +$7k....

That Omega is beautiful, you've had me looking at them on eBay now.
Always glad to help :D.

A few pages back I posted some things to be wary of i.t.o franckenwatches. If you are seriously looking at them, I am happy to help pick out what to be wary of in more detail 👍.

That is a pretty hefty watch. Or is it a replica?

Yeah it's a replica. Ask me a question I shall tell no lies. I got it from a shop in Manchester for £45.

Just thought it was a nice watch is all.

Also, to the guy who picked it to peices, I haven't posted any more pics because I haven't had the time, you want me to do it now?

You might have offered that non-trivial truth up when you posted it, instead of implying you are sporting a several thousand dollar watch. At least you admit it now.

That you are supporting the reproduction of patented items by buying a replica (not even a homage), and this is only my opinion, is distasteful. It is also illegal.

You mean me? No thanks.

If you think I would be idiotic enough to spend £3500 on a watch then you are a true tool. To be able to spend that much on a watch I would have to be properly minted.

Also, I don't care if its a replica or not, it looks nice, and that's good enough for me.

I may be forgiven for not taking my financial and watch purchasing advice from someone who wears a cheap knock-off.

I wasn't trying to give you advice. Mainly because I couldn't care less, but partly because I was simply stating a fact. I WOULD have to be wadded to have a real watch like that.

Aaw dammit. This could have been one for the ludicrous claims thread. :D

Spending money on a nice watch doesn't make someone a "tool". Some people just like quality timepieces that have excellent craftsmanship, while others are perfectly happy with $20 Timex. It's no different than someone who buys a $60,000 BMW when a Honda Civic would suit their needs all the same.

And it's not a replica, it's a counterfeit and its illegal. I suggest not taking it to any jeweler because most reputable places will confiscate any counterfeit watches and typically will destroy them. Replicas or homages are often made by a different company but look very similar to the real deal.

I never said that people who did buy them were tools. Just that if he thought I would spend that on a watch, well you can figure the rest out.

I honestly don't care if its a fake, a counterfeit, or a replica. It looks nice, and that's all I wanted.

It could have said Asda Smart Price on the face and I would have still bought it.

Is there a quality, affordable watch with a square, white/light face, and a loooong brown leather wriststrap available? Where do you get super long wrist straps for certain watches? I could use something in the next few months or so.

You sure seem to insinuate that people who spend a great deal of money on a watch are tools.

And you should care if it's fake because it's illegal to own it. But wear what you want, just don't take it to a jeweler or attempt to wear it if you travel abroad and don't try to pass if off like it's a $7,500 watch.

After my final exam next month I've decided to give myself this watch to celebrate :-)

Skagen are great daily driver watches, I have a couple of them and they work great. Be careful whacking the crystal against anything too hard though since they seem to be a bit fragile. I had one of mine replaced with a non-OEM crystal after the OEM broke and I haven't had a problem since.

The mesh titanium bracelets are pretty cool too, although if you have hairy arms you might get pinched.

What's affordable to you? I have some ideas but I don't want to post a $300 watch when you're thinking $70.

Got the Timex Weekender today. Obviously it's a cheap watch, but it's surprisingly nice. The strap feels comfortable, the numbers are extremely easy to read, and it looks sort field-like. My only complaint is that it's super loud with the ticking, it's even louder than my Russian hand wind-up watches. I'll get used to it pretty quick, but right now it's sort of irritating.

Also Mike do you think a name change for the thread is in order? Maybe just like "The General Watch Thread" or something along those lines since it's kind of morphed into that?

It's true about the thread name, but I sort of like it. I like the look of the watch too, Joey. I never owned a noisy watch though. Interesting. :D

Cool - it came out larger I first thought it was - and suit your wrist size nicely. They also lined up the seconds hand with the 'second markers' which is something which annoys me no end when it doesn't!
