just omitting the brand of the watch you are 1:1 copying is as fraudulent as putting the wrong brand on a fake watch
So tell me then, why aren't multibillion dollar companies who first penned Submariners and Panerai's and Nighthawks and Khaki Pilots taking the manufacturers of 'look-a-likes' to court then if it is fraudulent? Is it because it isn't fraudulent? Or is it because you are wrong?

My personal guess is the latter.

But why don't companies who are aware of other companies using their brand illegally take them to court then? Ohhhh that's right, they do, because it's illegal.

True, but as long as Mike gets the message it is worth it.

I get the message, but it is clear that you don't.

You are free to have your opinion, but if you were right, 3/4 of the watches in existence are fakes because they have design similarities to other watch. By your logic, once a design is penned (e.g. Rolex Submariner), no other watch can ever look anything like it. I'll be sure to email Bulova, Citizen, Seiko, Steinhart, Glycine, Hamilton, Tag Heuer and Omega that they are all making fake watches and are making the common man in the street criminals .

Also, mike, I feel as if I may have left here last time I posted with you thinking I was being a douche with you, I didn't mean it like that.

No worries, I can see you didn't intend it to come across that way - I appreciate the clarification though ;).

Time for Mike to shake hands.
Thank you for granting me permission to do this. I could never have managed it without your assistance.

I think these past few pages are a good example of how silly copyright is.

If Invicta could copy some other watch down to every last detail and every complication of the movement, it'd be just as impressive a timepiece as the target brand.

Anyway, if anyone wants to help me out with my question or throw out some suggestions, I'll keep checking for updates. Thanks again, guys. 👍

I believe that what Baudrillard called hyper-reality [/brothatsdeepbro].

Square watches are pretty few and far between when not talking fashion brands, white one's more so....

Tissot Quadrato (quartz) will run under budget - I think they have a brown leather strap model:

Certina DS Podium Square, although price is an unknown (possibly in budget if you can find one):

Louis Erard and Hamilton Jazzmaster's exist, but will probably run closer to $500 I would think..

Mike, can you recommend a decent looking watch, along the same style of the other watch I posted?

I like chronograph, and it has to be metal, and silver in colour. No more than £50.

Ooh, that Certina is pretty neat. I'm sure there are hundreds of circular watches that fit the description.

Still, where would you get them and is there a recommended place for big straps, etc?

There is a big difference between a watch having design similarities with another one, and a watch that is a 100% copy without the name on it.
Panerai not only has a patented brand name, but they patented the crown protection system. But that patent probably is old enough at the moment to go around it.

I consider your 100% copy a fake and not a homage, as it clearly is not paying respect to the original design but tries to look like the real deal.

Leaving off the name does clear some legal loopholes, but it doesn't change the fact your watch is as fake as they come. Even if it dances around the legal issues.

Fortunately I don't really care what you think, so I am moving on.

Sure - happy to 👍 I'll put up some suggestions when I get home from work.

There is no copyright problem between Certina, Tissot and Hamilton because they all run (among many others) under The Swatch Group (fomerly known as SMH).

Complete brand list as today:
Breguet, Harry Winston, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Jaquet Droz, Léon Hatot, Omega, Tiffany & Co., Longines, Rado, Union Glashütte, Tissot, ck watch & jewelry, Balmain, Certina, Mido, Hamilton, Swatch, Flik Flak, Endura and Tourbillon.

For the price they are nice looking watches Mike.

Neal be sure to post up what you get.

Cheers Shaun.

Yikes. Some pretty timeless names there all under the same face.

Here's my Harley Davidson Bulova:

And yes, that's galvaprime on the strap. If I don't get my paint-spatters off in time - especially primer - it stays on till given a proper cleaning. I have to watch it all the time.

I have been having something similar in design cheap Q&Q digital watch for over a decade now, replaced the battery twice/thrice so far, not a single issue ever :

Mine has an older design, black in color with rubber band, same brand, 5 BAR water resist, metal buttons, it says "alarm chrono/dual time/count down timer" at the top and "water 5 BAR resist " at the bottom instead. Can't believe how good a "5 bucks" watch can be.

The watch is my daily use that I wear, sometimes I wear the Mudman :D

I've never heard of the brand, but it says they are Citizen?

Citizen Holdings, so not exactly the same thing as Citizen Watch Co. Still the same parent company though. Q&Q is part of CBM I think.

I just checked the Q&Q website, and it's customer service is handled by "Citizen Customer Service", although it is a separate phone line from the line for the main Citizen brand. Japanese Wikipedia page reference Q&Q as one of Citizen's second-line brands.

I think t363 may have a knockoff Chinese Q&Q. j/k :P

Q&Q is indeed Citizen brand, I used to have the paper box, warranty card and manual, it says Citizen. I replaced the strap/band several times already, seems to be the weak spot, the rubber/plastic band tend to worn out easily with daily use.

Here is the link that sells the Q&Q Digital watch, most are out of stock.

Thanks. I wish Dievas had the blue variant also with matted hardware.

The green strap on the Citizen matches the green dial which looks quite nice in real life.

For summertime I prefer the nato or zulu straps. Really comfortable.

This is the watch i bought when over in Australia in March this year, been searching for a replacement watch from my old one (also metal strap and blue face, lasted about ten years?) for a few years now and had to go to Aussie to find it!

I'm very picky about look, features and so on too. Had to be blue, not too cluttered on the face, had to have a chronograph even though i never use it, and also a stopwatch and date. And a metal strap. And without numbers, they for n00bs. ;)

Not wearing it at the mo, but i'm 98% sure this is it:

Cost me $125AU, down from $200+? My old watch back in 2000/1999 was about $150 down from $300. Also a Sieko/Pulsar.

Nice one :).

I had the same model, but different colour combo a long time ago, purchased online from Singapore:

It's got a 1/20th second chronometer as it's party trick, which is quite "precise" (versus regular automatics for example which are "1 second" chronometers, unless you go big $$$). Both these are quartz though - I still think 1/20th is quicker then regular quartz chronos....

I gave mine away on a watch forum though, as I wasn't wearing it. The regular bracelet pulled my hair nastily :ouch:.

I have the same problem with my current watch. Extremely similar to the Seiko you gave away.

Anyway it's led me to looking at watches over the past week or so.
I'm seriously considering ordering the Fossil that you put here for neal to look at.
I also like the look of the Seiko as well but because it has a metal hair pulling bracelet that one is out of the question unless it comes as a leather/canvas/rubber strap version also.

While looking I came across this.

A little bit cheaper than both the Fossil and Seiko but I also like the look of it.

Mike can you think of anything else also around that price? Not too keen on gold btw.
