I feel like it's been too long since I bought a new watch.

This just came in from France this afternoon and I'm pretty excited to have it. It's a Swatch Irony Chrono "Sydney Olympics" edition from 2000. The Irony has been on my list for a little bit now and I find just about anything the Olympics branded to be pretty cool. The watch needs a battery since the seller couldn't ship it with one or else the French postal service would have went nuts or something.

Oh and it's got the original box it came in too, which is doubly cool.

So after looking around for a cheapish new watch with a leather strap I ordered one of these tonight.

For the price I'm quite happy with the way it looks going by the various images I could find of it. Hopefully I'm as happy with it when it turns up.
Originally I had my eye on a similar black version also from Casio but this one just jumped out at me.

^^^

Watch turned up today, considering the price I'm really happy with the way it looks.
The second hand even lines up correctly which can't be said about my much more expensive Seiko.

Only got one spare hole on the strap though on my skinny wrist.

🤬 How did I miss this thread last week!

Joey - the colour scheme is cool, I like the bright hands although the lettering on the bezel is not my personal cup of tea, but then again, it's not my watch ;). FYI, the Australian Postal service also goes banana's if you post a watch with a battery inserted :indiff:.

Shaun, I think you did well mate, it looks great with the white face - much better then the equivalent model with the black face. Looks very sporty/ casual. 👍. Throw some pics up :D. Did you end up ordering it from the Singapore place?

You don't like the lettering? But, but, but Australia! Aren't you required by law or something to love all thing Aussie?

Thanks though, I'm digging the watch and finally found a battery for it. It was a 394 which seems to be really uncommon for some reason.

For a watch that age I would have expected the lettering to have worn off in parts come to think of it, so you found one is pristine condition. In France of all places! Merde!

So, when you going to show us a 'state of the collection' picture then? :P.

Here you go mate.

And the thingy.

Ah very nice watch Shaun, very sharp choice. I didn't realise it had the brown strap, which is actually a much better colour contrast I think then the black would have been .

And yes, the thingy is the thingy I was talking about .

Being quite a Swtch fan and expert I really like the Sydney Irony Chrono. I have it in my collection as well. What makes my wondering is your strap. I`m 100% sure that I have a blue leather strap with blue fabric on the upper side. This version was sold on first day of issue. Maybe they changed it later.

Your strap reminds me on the straps of Time Cut and Time Cut Too (greyish and black rubbber).

But your strap is in blue colour.

I went for years without wearing a watch, but was given one by relatives for passing a reasonably significant life event. As far as I can tell, it's this:

Although the face seems more black than navy on mine, and the stitching is better done on the real thing. Wearing a watch has turned out to be quite useful now my phone battery has started giving up, so I rather like them.

What Wikipedia says:

Sekonda is a British distributor of fashion wristwatches.

Originally a company which marketed Soviet-made time pieces in the West, Sekonda's Soviet ties ended with the break-up of the USSR. Most Soviet-era Sekondas were re-badged Poljot and Raketa models, produced respectively by the First Moscow Watch Factory and the Petrodvorets Watch Factory.

Since 1993, the company has imported its products from factories in Asia, as it no longer has ties with the Russian producers. Since 2004, the First Moscow Watch Factory is not producing anymore, though the Petrodvorets Watch Factory is still producing the Raketa watches

Sekonda also markets watches under the sub-brand SEKSY for ladies' fashion, ONE for men's fashion and Xpose for rugged outdoor lifestyles of either gender.

Wikipedia indeeds knows all, I forgot to mention it was a Sekonda watch, their range is quite extensive, and some of their prices eye watering

Simple does me fine.

So I almost made it a month without buying another watch, but I was helping my best friend's fiancee try and find a watch for my best friend as a wedding gift and figured I needed one too.

It's Junkers Flatline Ultra-Thin Dress Watch model number 6334-2, which I scored for $275 off Amazon. Although once I factored in the remain gift cards I had it came to a easy to handle $38.77.

To give you some background on Junkers since it seem like most people haven't heard of them, I'll give you the little write up from their website:

The German company POINTtec produce Junkers aviation design wristwatches. These fine watches recall famous names of early aviation, combining historic aircraft design elements, along with durable and distinctive hand wound, mechanical automatic, and quartz movements. Because of the outstanding functional quality and technical design of its watches, POINTtec has been appointed supplier for the Federal Troops of the National German Military Services (Bundeswehr).

So it's a good watch, from a reputable company with an interesting history behind it. I also love all things aviation from the 20's and 30's (along with most design elements from that period too).

The reason I went with the Flatline was it's size, it's a 38mm case that measures only 7mm thick which will work awesome with a dress shirt...even though I wear polos 95% of the time. It also has a Swiss quartz movement and it assembled in Germany.

Anyway, the photos.

Also since Brad (Mike R) has been bugging me to take a picture of my entire collection, here it is:

DSC00502_zps232238a6.jpg

Top Row (left to right):
  • Hamilton Ventura
  • Skagen 750XLSTXM
  • Skagen 915XLBSB
  • Seiko Kinetic Sport 50
  • Seiko SNE168
Bottom Row (left to right):
  • Junkers Flatline
  • Swatch Irony Chrono Sydney Olympics Edition
  • MOMO Design Dual Tech Pro
  • Raketa Copernicus (Russian: Paкeтa коперник) (c. 1990)
  • Raketa Perpetual Calendar Soviet Air Force (c. 1989)
Bottom Drawer
  • Timex Weekender

$38 for a Junkers (admittedly after vouchers etc) is crazy good value.

'bout time on the box picture :D.

A) Nice watchbox!
B) The SNE168 is definitely my favourite, followed closely by the Junkers.

The Copernicus is a crazy watch. It's awesome.

Joey, brilliant collection 👍

I'm liking that Hamilton Ventura and the Raketa Perpetual Calendar Soviet Air Force. Nice stuff.

Thanks guys! 👍

That Hamilton Ventura is beautiful, may I ask where you got it and how much it cost?

I actually got it on eBay for around $500, but you can find them new on Amazon for $600 (£470) for the least expensive version. The Elvis Presley edition ones though go for over $1,000, but are significantly larger watches too.

If you are good at eBay sniping though, you could probably snag one for $400-$450.

Ok that's it I've fallen in love with this watch. I have to buy one.

Being in Bulgaria you'll have a much easier time of getting one and will pay significantly less since you're located in Eastern Europe. Check eBay, there's a ton located in the Ukraine and in Russia.

I get a ton of compliments about it and it's always a conversation piece since people always want to know what it is. I wish you luck in trying to snag one for a good price, there's many to be had for $45 USD.

Does anyone know of a really nice watch I can get for around £150? I don't really want a used watch, and preferably with a stop watch, leather strap and isn't too chunky.

I've had a look and haven't really found anything that jumps out, there's a few nice Swiss Military watches, and a nice Junkers too (although a bit pricey for me at £199):

99943008_v_1355918152.jpg

It's nice but I'm not sure what I'd do with the dual time function, for me it would be a bit redundant.

It's the only thing I've come across that I would consider buying so far, I'm too picky for my own good.

If you frequently travel or make calls between two time zones. Also on a pilots watch, or aviation inspired watches like the Junkers, it sort of makes sense to be able to see multiple time.

A couple of my watches have multiple times and it works out for me so I can quickly see what time it is on the west coast. It helps in not calling someone when their office is closed.

Thanks Joey. I thought that it had something to do with that.

Ok I'm giving it a go. I'll see if I can find one. If I manage to snag one I'm posting pics :D

Hey guys. I'm going to spend a few days looking through what everyone sports on their wrist. Here is my collection (Sorry, only photo I have right now is with my Colognes in it.)

Here is my baby (Omega Speedmaster Racing)

I really want to get a Blancpain Villeret Mouvement Inverse but, I don't have $40,000 just sitting around haha.

Hasn't arrived yet, but have just ordered this Casio EQW-M1000DB-1AER Edifice waveceptor radio controlled solar powered watch:

Haven't had a watch for years, and never really had a nice analogue either.

Ya not only is that against the AUP, it makes you look really foolish. People who wear fake watches just look dumb.
