I'll save you the trouble, Harry.

:P

Wow... that's a nice Bulova you have there @photonrider :)👍 I couldn't see that pic earlier today (was @ the office, internet filter is too strong)...

And... is that a Vector W8????

Yes. Caught you watchin'.. . . . :D

Can I have your watch, skipper?

:P

At eight bells, bosun, eight bells. :)

Seriously though, I can look at that last watch all day long. I'm glad you bought it, so I can at least enjoy the picture of it. :P

There's something hypnotic about it - when I have it on, people keep glancing at it and forgetting what they are saying and then start commenting about the watch - some almost embarrassed, because it seems kind of gauche to talk about the watch on someone's wrist, yet curious to know about it.
It does have many faces depending on the angle of attack yon everyday photons take at it, sometimes understated, almost bland, other times, glitzy and show-offish.

On something that doesn't fire large caliber? :D

Worth every penny, my friend. Sorry I drooled again on your picture. :P

Drool away - the firewall keeps the spittle off.
Excuse the shabby pics - hurriedly taken by hand - doesn't really do justice. :guilty:

My latest addition.
Swatch are doing some interesting things with silicon components - they have an automatic chronograph out using a movement based on the venerable 7750 but made entirely of silicon. On one hand it makes it lighter and cheaper, but comes at the price of being unserviceable in the future (more an issue for the chrono then your piece ;)).

Nice Bulova @photonrider . Bonus points for having more than 1 :D

If I could've I'd have bought several of their very visible patterned watches!

This Guess jeans watch was a present from my fiancé. She's had it engraved on the case back. Never been a fan of gold, but with the beautiful brown face it looks amazing to me.DSC_0244.JPG

On my phone so sorry for the wrong orientation.

So I spent a few hours looking at watches online tonight and it seems if you are in the market for a square faced automatic chronograph that isnt a Monaco, your option are basically 4 watches; one being discontinued (Tissot Quadrato), one either discontinued or so rare that it might as well be discontinued (Certina PD Podium Square), one that looks like ass (Fortis Square) or one that looks ok and has be undecided (Hamilton Jazzmaster Square).

How hard is it to make a square faced watch! :indiff:

......... Is it too late to convert yourself into an ass man?

:P

I don't know, they all look pretty nice, but first one does look amazing. Fortis does look different.

Curious what people think about Certina watches? Was thinking about picking up a Certina DS Podium GMT in the Carbon banded, black faced scheme. I think it would go well with my current collection as a nice sporty, but classy, alternative to my Omega Speedmaster Racing.

They're the official watch of the WRC aren't they? I feel like I've looked into a few before but couldn't find a good place to buy them in the US.

They're also the official watch for Sauber F1 team. The only place to pick them up in the US is NYC or Beverly Hills, according to their website. I'll be flying to Italy tomorrow so, hopefully I can find a store with it to check it out.

Here are my two latest watches. On the left is a Tissot Courtier Chronograph... I saw it on display in a shop cabinet, and I couldn't stop thinking about it for months. Following a lot of research, I eventually decided to buy it. Definitely one of the best looking watches I've ever seen. I'm completely chuffed!

On the right is a Diesel Master Chief DZ4281. I love it for it's slightly mad design. A nice casual watch for the summer time. 👍

No it's not

It's a Tissot Courtier Chronograph ;).

Very attractive watch, it's caught my eye a few times on watch searches. I am a big fan of the strap end which is curved to meet the watch case, unlike most watches which just have a straight end.

2 Weeks ago I went for an icecream to a near Mall, and I found this watch in a shop:

I think I found my new watch :D

And just curious, anybody knows if the Maserati watches are any good???

I did some reading it is a Swissasian outfit (i.e. claiming Swiss heritage, manufacturer in Asia with locally sourced components).

Some of their watches use Miyota movements more usually found in Orient or Citizen automatics, although it's hard to find out what powers you pictured one. The small 24hr dial is usually a giveaway for quartz.

Online their MRSP is >$600, which is about $500 too high. If you want a quality watch, there are better makes, but if you like the look, you like the look 👍.

Eight Bells can mean : "When I'm dead", a6m5  . . . but it's also interesting that it is a way to tell the time:

One bell . 0:30 4:30 8:30 12:30 16:30 18:30† 20:30
Two bells .. 1:00 5:00 9:00 13:00 17:00 19:00† 21:00

Brief update on the watch situation...

So I did ok with my financial situation at work this past financial year end, and with a fairly significant personal milestone coming up I have been looking for hours and hours for the right watch to mark it all out. I know exactly what I am looking for, I just can't find it at my price point - which is disappointing as it's not like I am scrounging on the budget.

Actually I lie, I did find two examples of the one watch I have been looking at for probably 2 years, but it's being sold by an online seller of mixed repute, so I am not sure I want it that badly. As it's a limited edition, they are hard to come by :indiff:.

The other model I found comes with a crocodile strap and after last year's fiasco, I'll not be trying avenue again if I can help it.

So the search continues.

Nice watch, no doubt.

Given that your D.O.B. is what it is, I am inclined to wonder what the story is behind your pic.

First of all, happy congratulations on your 50th birthday. :P Seriously though, sound like a very exciting hunt you got going here. I think we all do remember the leather strap ordeal....... Best of luck with this one Mike, and keep us updated! :D

@Mike Rotch

Still the Monaco?

Do you think the guy at customs was having a bad day in that instance otherwise how to the straps get through officially? Can you buy a Tag with that strap from a store here?
Might be worth calling customs if the only varient you can find has the croc strap.

@Mike Rotch

It is one of the options rolling around (👍), but they command silly money for little rational reason (👎).

Shaun

Naw, its law, specifically CITES - the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species - which prohibit the import/ export of reptilian products unless an import/export permit is obtained before importation occurs. The seller needs to obtain an export permit and the buyer an import permit. However online retailers simply say "any customs costs or documentation is the responsibility of the buyer", which is a cheap way out of it.

As long as one buys cow or sheep leather straps, its fine, but some watches come by default with croc straps, which is the issue.

Shaun

Yep...with a 30-50% markup :grumpy:.

They do realise how many of the buggers are roaming around NT, don't they? :dopey:

What I meant was, how do Tag get around the importation of croc straps.
You answered it in your post. 👍

It looks good, but the build quality is a bit ropey. The tick is horrendously loud, even if I place it on the other side of the room it will keep me up at night. Plus something has come loose inside, and rattles every time I move.

Aesthetics, great. Build quality not so. Not what you would expect from a brand like Tommy Hilfiger.

It turns out it was my fault for the rattle :guilty: I dropped it a few weeks after my girlfriend gave it to me, and it looks like that's what did it.

I finally got round to taking it to be repaired today and apparently the bevel (whatever that is) has broken completely, so now the tachymeter is free to move around the case and that's what's causing the rattle. A new bevel will cost £70 roughly, I would have got it replaced in a heartbeat (it's got very high sentimental value, it's engraved on the back and stuff) but my damn car failed it's MOT.

My bad, that one went right over my head.👍

Not to worry. I am well-known for going over people's heads; first the test, then the lesson. ;)

Which reminds me - a bit of advice that will be thrown overboard:
A watch that can open a bottle, and get you home to do it . . .

... can be quite a beery part of your collection. Does that pop?

@Ferrari458Italia - is it possible to give us a few more angles of that watch? What a beauty.

.

It's my Citizen minicollection causing me pain at the moment.

And a Diver:

.
Woot.

I decided this weekend to pop this one up on the work classified page and see what was what and 5 mins after I posted it, someone wanted to buy it. Dug out all the instructions and boxes (still pristine) and charged it under a lamp whilst watching telly last night and transacted today for $100.

Chuffed with that, maybe one or two others will follow suit.

👍
