I don't really want anything "fancy" with my watch. Just wanted a cheap one that can tell me the time, with decent colouring :P

May I suggest a Timex Weekender? They have a variety of watch face colors. Then there is the option to replace the strap. The color selection with the straps is quite large if you order from somewhere like Cheapest NATO Straps.

That sounds like a Bulova all right. 👍 Get one. :D

If $150.00 is cheap for a watch that would last 10 years - that would be $15.00 a year - then you could treat yourself to a decent one for that price.

There are many nice Seikos available, too around that price.
If you're looking for something cheaper that works well and still looks good, then Timex or Casio also have a great range under $50.00.
I'm talking CDN, maybe a little less in US.

I found some very pretty Seiko dive watches for $55 US on ebay. Bright dials and other fun stuff. I might pick one up. Seiko automatics are criminally underrated. Most are 21 jewel, which is all anyone needs.

Interesting point. Figure I bought the Bulova for $180. It's been kicking 57 years. It cost me a grand total of ~ $3.16 per year it's been working. It only appreciated in value from new ~90%. It'll keep trucking for a long while.

I find 150 way too expensive for something that I only use just to know the time. With that Money I brought 3 Games an Amiibo (which would last the same buy how much I keep them from being ruined) with 50 Dollars left over for a Cheaper watch.

With looks, I'm just fine with the Simplicity of my watch's because I think that works best.

You can snag a couple Seiko automatics off ebay for $50.

Yup. Watches are outdated. Who needs them when you have the TV in your pocket?

Sad but true. I used to never wear them because my wrist is so small. Now I can feel when I don't have one on. It bugs me.

Just curious to hear what everyone thinks about the Apple Watch? I think it's ghastly. No phone or electronic watch will ever replace a proper watch for me.

It's going to kill Watches and Phones someday. Though I do think they are ghastly too.

However when they do become the next big thing, I expect Watches to be banned from Classes.

Horrible thing in my opinion, that goes for all smart watches in my book.
I do however see how some would be attracted to it/them and would in no means judge anyone with one.

Just not something I'd ever own.

Don't give them any ideas. :nervous:

By that token, they should ban the clocks in the classroom, too. Then again, I suppose I could rig a day/date to show up to 31 answers.

The day watches are banned. I hope I'm long dead. The apple watch is as much a watch as a Dodge Aries is a Formula One car.

I have one at work and it's not bad, it is a little small but the stuff you can do with it is pretty cool. Our electronic medical record can integrate with it through an app and docs can use their Apple Watch to view patient information and even dictate notes. I do think they are still a tad limited due to size, weight, and battery life, however in a couple years they will be amazing.

Pretty sure he meant the Apple Watch, not watch-watch. My Seiko can be pried off when I'm dead. Or sleeping. Or mowing the lawn. Or...

:P

I doubt underfunded school systems will have the sensibility to know the difference.

It's dumb. Has nothing going for it over the many real watches that it costs more than. Plus, to paraphrase John Mayer, I can't give up valuable wrist space to wear a smartwatch, it's taken by a mechanical.

Next payday...

EDIT: 1000th post on the thread, anybody? :P

Personally, I do not believe they should even be in this thread. I think this thread is more about time-keeping pieces. Sure an Apple thing can do that, but it also tells you more than necessary.

Back on topic. I like wear some cheap battery watches from time to time. And sometimes I wear winders/automatics. I guess it depends on what kind of mood I am in.

I am very glad to see this thread as I am a watch enthusiasts myself. :)

Don't give them any ideas. :nervous:
Unfortunately, when I was in grade school we were not allowed to have watches. That would be all the up to 6th grade for me.

I need some assistance, gents.

As some of you know, my son has Cystic Fibrosis so he needs to take medication before he eats. When we're planning on eating out, we have his enzymes with us but if it's a spur of the moment thing, we don't always have them.

Enter in an idea he had yesterday. He always has his watch on so we were thinking about a strap that has storage built into it so he could put his enzyme in there and always have some. I'd be very surprised if this doesn't already exist but when I do a search for watch strap storage, all I get is storage boxes for watch straps. Even looking through a few custom strap sites I didn't see anything.

Help!

I am not able to find such a thing, which is kinda odd in todays society.

The closest item I can think of would be something along the lines of what @Ramanujan said. Maybe a key chain sort of thing would do the trick.

Another idea, maybe cut two slots in the bottom of a rectangular prism pill box and sliding the strap through there. You would probably want it solid colored and the right size of course. You don't want it too large or too small. Also, for this to work his watch band would have to be a fabric rather that a metal (if it is not already).

I think clipping on something like this to a watch is your best bet.

I will open my mind and really think about this some more as I know how much it actually means to you and your family. It actually means a lot to me because I have known somebody with the same medical condition.

Or maybe a wallet? I like the storage things you guys brought up, too. 👍 Sorry, @TB I'm not seeing anything either. I did find couple of survival bracelet watches that have storage in the band? 1 2

With survival bracelets, I was thinking that you could probably attach small pocket/compartment to it, and that's when I ran into those two zombie survival watches. :D

Thanks for the suggestions, @Ramanujan, @kolio123 and @a6m5. :cheeers:

We have a few of the aluminum screw tops but they only hold 3 of his enzyme, enough for one meal. We'd like one to carry enough for the entire day (about 10, but at a minimum 6). My wife keeps on one her keychain for those spur of the moment... moments I mentioned but we'd like him to start being a bit more independent and self-sufficient with this.
Or maybe a wallet?
He's 9 and his clothing of choice is shorts in the summer and nylon pants in the winter, neither of which are guaranteed to have pockets but that's remedied by only buying pants WITH POCKETS.

As for the survival watches, I think attaching something to the strap is going to make it too bulky. :indiff: Love the idea, though.

What we did end up finding, though, was these:

Dog Tag Pill Box

It's hard to tell how much clearance there is inside as finding specs/dimensions proved difficult to find so we're going to chance it then make sure we review the hell out of it for others looking for something similar.

Black Secret Hidden Stash Watch

Again, a bit difficult to tell how much room there is, but for $20, it's worth a shot. That way he'll have 2 options to see which he prefers.

Side note on the watch, apparently it's intended for "herbs".

Thanks again, guys!

Not sure. it read ten minutes after I got there when I was done, and the stem came out.
Only G-Shock for you from now on.

:P

Seriously though, I've worn my analog watches(automatic & quartz) while shooting, and never had any issues.

I broke my Bulova. Wore it while shooting. :irked: Can't fix it. stem's goofed.

Deepest sympathies. :(

Will you be needing one of these now?
(Less the contents - you already have the potential contents.)

I can empathise with the loss, though - a watch becomes part of you, part of your everyday perceptions of life, and thefore just a glance at it is enough to evoke memories. When you put it to rest it will be like putting many memories to rest.
I have a few like that, too, in my watch cemetery.

Only G-Shock for you from now on.

That would survive under fire - a blue face (like the one you have) would be nice, too.

:mischievous:

Nasty job, that - being a watch undertaker. The death of time is a horrible thing to contemplate.

Sometimes I open my drawer of broken timepieces and look at them with a mixture of sorrow and horror.
The only way to fix a broken watch-heart is to get a new ticker.

Preferably one with the name Bulova on it, huh, @High-Test?

Never in my life will I purchase such a horrid thing as a G-shock. I'll get it fixed. It was a 1 year anniversary gidt o myself - for staying out of a psych ward a year and not having a depressive episode in many months. It'll get fixed.

Hey! I love my G-Shock! ok, maybe not very stylish. :grumpy::lol: I am very glad to hear that you are feeling better bud. 👍

Thanks. :) I am pleased to report 20.5 months out of a psych ward, four years without a manic episode, and 19 months without a depressive episode. The things are working. :)

I will se if I can have the dial repainted in a metallic orange sunburst.

I bought some more straps for my watch (I might have a problem). Here is what I bought:

I bought the five on the left. I already had the two on the right and posted them in another picture on GTP.
