There are quite few threads already about wisdom teeth but I didn't want to resurrect those old threads.

Anyway, in the last year my wisdom teeth have started to come through. Three are on there way through pretty much at the same time and it's causing me serious pain. Got a dentist appointment booked for 15th November and I think there going to suggest having them removed.

The other problem is that my wisdom teeth are putting pressure on my other teeth and has pushed some of them forward. It now looks like I'm going to have to get Invisalign braces to get them back in place!

Anyone else had experience with this new type of brace? It's going to cost me about £3000 aswell.

Timing couldn't be worse coming up to Christmas.

:crys:

Removing them is very last option, if they aren't growing through the gum, etc.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I had a similar problem and it turned out my gum was infected where it was pushing through so I had a huge lump in the side.

Dental work can be uncomfortable but a decent dentist will be good with the local and it'll be relatively painless.

One hint: To help calm your mouth:

use Saltwater, put a tablespoon of seasalt into a cup/mug then fill it half with boiling water and fill the rest with cold, the hotter the better but don't burn your mouth. Then use it as a mouthwash, because Salt really, really, really (emphasized enough?) calms it down. It's common for Wisdom tooth to be arseholes btw.

I'll try the saltwater trick tonight. The wisdom teeth are coming through the gum but I can't tell if there straight or not. I got an emergency appointment on Wednesday morning just to make sure. I have got a slight bulge on the side of the gum where the tooth is coming through so I guess it's become infected because of the break in the skin. Tooth ache has got to be the most annoying of all the pains.

My Wisdom Teeth occasionally play up. It rarely lasts more than a week - and double-dosing on ibuprofen and paracetamol (anti-inflammatory and painkiller) for that period seems to do the trick. You can take your maximum daily dose of both ibuprofen and paracetamol at the same time, but for no more than a week.

I was going to have that brace before i got my train tracks, but i needed more extensive work doing so they decided against them. Apparently its just like wearing a gum gaurd. You will be fine.

I've been taking Anadin extra which contains paracetamol and aspisirin. Only problem with those is that I can't mix them with other painkillers. The pain keeps waking me up during the night aswell and is becoming really annoying as I have to get doped up again on painkillers so that I can get back to sleep.

What did you think of the braces? I've never seen them in person, only through websites. It's definitely the best option for me as the job I do requires me to meet lots of landlords and I have to hold meetings for freeholders etc. Train tracks wouldn't be the right image for me (unfortunately, there so much cheaper!).

Invisalign SUCKS. Trust me and just get regular braces. My mom's in orthodontics, and I've had a friend who tried them. He switched to regular braces, eventually. They're such a pain in the ass. You have to take them out to clean them everytime you eat, and they take twice as long to get the job done.

edit: If you're worried about metal mouth, just get white braces. They don't look too bad.

Drop 'em. Just get supermarket own-brand paracetamol and ibuprofen (though not both on the same visit, as they seem to think you can kill yourself with 36 ibuprofen, but not 12 paracetamol).

Aspirin is quite an impressive drug, but you need a painkiller and an anti-inflammatory.

I think that those metal braces do the best, Wouldn't you wanna look like:

Just kidding, My friend tried those invisalign things, He said they sucked.

From,
Chris.

Erm, my braces aint that bad, they were sore to start with but im used to them now, honestly mine hardly show, ive got clear bands and plastic metal square things, so they aint metal they are plastic, mine havnt broken once yet and ive had them since january.

Erm, the only thing is about braces, dont eat spaggetii :D you will have trouble getting it out.

But trust me, braces are so well known now, im sure noone will think anything of it when you go to your meetings and stuff.

Get the kind of brace that goes on the inside of your teeth.

No, just get normal braces. They should give you a palette expander, so your teeth are going to space out and look like crap for a while. At least with braces on the outside, people will think you're getting it fixed.

Will do. I haven't taken any aspirin today so I think I'll shoot out and get something with anti-inflammotory. 👍

I'm not too fussed about the taking out and cleaning or the time factor to be honest. As long as it gets the job done. I'll take it to consideration what you have said though.

Woah, that's quite alot of money there.

My ortodontist gave me this metal brace in Belgium, I had it for a year or 2 untill I came here in Norway and they said I needed another treatment. So I guess my teeth are screwed for the rest of my life, I DO NOT trust those people :grumpy:

Well, just know that they don't work very well at all. If I were you, I'd go with trusted braces to just get the job done quicker for less money.

How old are you? Sounds like you've left braces rather late. Either way, the image given by your teeth won't be so bad. Plus, those 'invisible' braces will looks stupid.
First, whenever you smile it'll like like there's a gap between your top and bottom teeth. And also, I question what effect it will have on your bite, especially if your teeth are frequently going to be a few mm's apart.

No! Don't get white bands! They stain like a hell!

Get the kind of brace that goes on the inside of your teeth.
Can you get those for the full treatment? I have one on the back of my front teeth but that's just to keep them in place untill my wisdom teeth come through.

I'd be surprised if the Saltwater thing doesn't sooth it, at least for a while. Bulges on the side of the gum are usual when Wisdom teeth come through, and I agree with the last sentence. I must've been in pain for a week or two with it, I also had cavities mind, 2 done on seperate occasions and the worst bit was when she used the air to clean the hole she made inside the tooth. She's a good dentist though, important to have one that is careful.

Other relaxants that you could apply, Bonagel might work can be relaxing.

What are you drinking atm? If I were you I'd drink mainly water, things like Coke, or high in sugar Squashs should be a no-no. Let us know how you get on.

Invisalign isn't that bad though I've never needed braces.

However, my ol' pal, Micheal did it only because people told him metal braces can hurt like hell, so he went with Invisalign. I think all the "chores" that come with it are enough for Micheal if it meant not going through some pain in his mouth.

I've had those metal braces for nine years on and off. They are no pain and the fact that they will be on for a while longer does not bother me. They shouldn't be a problem. And they are socially acceptable.

If I were you, I'd try to get those wisdom teeth out. People say its a nightmare, but it was one of the best times I've had. Just be calm. The drugs they put you on are really fun and a couple days of ice cream and pain killers ony adds to the experience.

Why did you have braces for 9 years? :odd: I had mine for 4 years and that was one of the longest cases my orthodontist had ever seen. I do agree though that metal braces really aren't that bad as long as you don't get hit in the face by anything.

Well, the first few years, I had a horrible overbite and bad gaps all around my mouth. Then I had a retainer for awhile. After that, one side of my mouth was about half a tooth too far front or back. Then had braces for a while while they tried to pull my whole jaw around. Finally got a tooth removed and now they are closing that gap and using it to align the teeth.

I had my wisdom teeth diagnosed back in January 'Oh those will need to come out ASAP' they said. It's almost November and they're still hanging there, they sometimes hurt about once a month, but like Famine, I just take a double dose (Alphamox, Prodeine Forte) and they're good as new.

I've got a lump on the side of my gum which seems to have gone down over night. I'm still getting pain in my cheek but not half as bad as a few days ago. I'm using the saltwater trick twice a day and it seems to be helping. I've just been sticking to water as I thought it would help keep the area clean aswell.

Good stuff, Mark. The Salt not only relaxes it but improves the healing process, reccomended to me by my dentist. I managed to get in on the NHS too, got an emergency appointment on the day of the new contracts, which is lucky because I wouldn't have been able to afford it privately, rip off merchants they are.

Just been to the Dentist and Orthodontist (Not as bad as it sounds) and my Wisdom teeth haven't even appeared yet so I got a while. No more orthodontist for 2 years :D

Don't make me start on Orthdontists, I had to have impressions (I have an under bite) and every time she did it I was sick (Because the mixture ran down my throat) and she blamed me for it.

Although why she ever though braces and/or those little wooden sticks (Like the ones you get on Ice Creams) would ever make enough of a difference. We went to one in town (Much better, nicer person too) and he said I'd need an op to take a bit of bone out of each side and move it back and re-set it. I've not taken it up, would be far to painful I think.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought I would just throw an update in. My wisdom teeth didn't need removing and three of them are now fully through.

I had my Invisalign impressions made today and they should be ready in about six weeks, new straight teeth here I come!

Downside- £3500 has just been taken out of my account. No more purchases for me for about two months. Booo.

Id rather keep the £3500 and have bent teeth:dopey: How long will the treatment last? If your worried about having permanent braces and looking like a kid couldn't you have those removable ones that you can just wear at home and at night? Thats what I did when I was in school, suppose its too late now though...

Are you talking about retainers? You only get those after you have your braces off and they are only designed to keep your mouth from moving around. You only have those to make sure your mouth is used to it's new configuration and won't go back.
