The problem with Xbox One is that only 5 GB's of the DDR3 RAM will be available to developers for games, this is compared to the 8 GB's offered by the PS4. Basically even if the ESRAM makes up the difference, the fact of the matter is that PS4 games will be able to utilize 3 GB's more RAM, take from that what you will.

Considering I read it in my issue of gameinformer, there's an article about it on every gaming website, and MS have all but confirmed it, I say it's true.

I have to correct myself, seems PS4 has 1 GB for OS so 7 GB's for games.

Here was the interview with Marc Whitten , notice how he doesn't deny the RAM allocation question, it was a question that would have had negative reactions from gamers so he didn't say yes, but he didn't say no either, because he would telling lies because it is true. If he could say no he would have, but he couldn't because he is the Chief Product Officer of Xbox One and you don't lie when you have that position.

Game Informer: "My question is in terms of RAM you said there is 8GB of RAM my impression was there is 5 of that being diverted to the games, 3 of that to running the always-on apps partition. Sony has 8GB of GDDR5 which is pretty fast RAM and I think it is all unified towards games. Do you think that puts you at a technical disadvantage because there is [in the Xbox One] only 5GB of functioning RAM for games?

Marc Whitten: "Yeah, Im not going to talk about Sonys system, Im not close enough to really understand how there system works. I will say that I think the way weve balanced our system is really key, in terms of two things. The first one is we believe that we are going to have amazing experiences that are clearly next-gen. I think you guys saw some experiences that set a bar that is clearly very high... This isnt about so I can watch TV at the same time as Im watching games those are interesting scenarios as well. At a gaming level the ability to create a modern gaming experiences, where LIVE and the apps and services you can run at the same time as the game, we think will really change that experience we think its key.

Am I correct in thinking that the ESRAM in the XBOX ONE is basically just a smaller chip sitting on a larger chip much like Intel Integrated Graphics?

Waiting for someone to tell me I'm wrong and explain it all. :)
Nah it's just like an additional big cache in the APU.

I also read that PS4 uses a modified FreeBSD 9.0 with GRUB Boot Loader as OS which uses 1 GB of RAM, while Xbone uses a modified kernel of Windows 8 for main OS, and 2 other separate OS for game and hypervisor ( allow both other OS to communicate ) - apparently each uses 1 GB of RAM.

PS4 OS Dev

All the switching between T.V and games plus the 3 OS's on the Xbox One would use more RAM that PS4, seems pretty obvious to me. However considering we have been playing games with half a GB of RAM, 5 GB's will be plenty, in fact I don't even know how devs can use that much :P

Killzone Shadow Fall demo on PS4 already uses more than 4 GB of RAM, so I think most next gen games will maximize RAM usage. Maybe after 2 or 3 years, we will see the gap widening between PS4 and Xbone as more games pushes the hardware limit. Imagine now running Killzone Shadow Fall on Xbone with around 4 to 5 GB RAM usage - already close to RAM limit.

I can't wait to see how much RAM Forza 5 uses and the next GT on PS4 ( the possibility with 7 GB RAM on tap in the hands of PD magical graphics )

I'm not buying the no aliasing requires 4k BS. 2xAA @720 is going to have noticeable Aliasing, 8xFXAA @ 1080 is far less noticeable.

What I assume he means is if you have a 50 inch TV displaying a 1080p image and a 4K TV of the same size, aliasing will be much less apparent on the 4K. It's the pixel density that matters more than the actual resolution, because of course if you have a 50 inch 1080p TV and a TV scaled up in size to match the 1080p's pixel density when you're running 4K, the aliasing will be the same.

FXAA also blurs the edges quite a bit, but yes, in the grand scheme of things it's far less noticeable. At the same time though, and this is going to coincide with what's already been said, pixel density is of greater importance.

If the models are more robust then his statement holds true. If it's something more along the lines of being up-converted from a native resolution of 1440x1080 or something of the sort it isn't going to matter nearly as much, in fact some of the jagged edges are going to be even more apparent than they would have been if it weren't up-converted.

That's also where tessellation can play a key factor.

You are both right however the person asking the question did not ask if they eliminated jaggies. Dan's answer is right but the question wasn't asked. It was an evasive answer to avoid saying they haven't done much to "change". What I'm saying is Forza 5 probably doesn't improve on the anti aliasing from FM4, the question that was asked.

And I just realized that you subscribe to XBox Live Gold on the XBox 360 and still have to look at ads?

Hey, good for you XBOX people. :)
I have never noticed any ads on the Xbox. If they are there they must be hiding somewhere that i do not go.

You can also set the xbox to auto login and launch the game in the tray when you turn it on so you don;t have to even see the live screen if you don;t want to no matter if you have gold or not but again I have never saw any ads on XBox or PS3 regardless of paid account or not. Unless of course you are talking about game news being an ad as they do have a spot that will show you info on latest games

Now I'm confused. The guy in the Youtube video I watched must be lying then.
Do ads really bother you?
Youtube ads do. TV ads as well. I guess I can choose to ignore them but the point is, they're something that nobody wants.

Hey, good for you XBOX people. :)

The ads are not noticeable unless it is a major event in the real world or for the Xbox. They are usually placed in the bottom right corner with a few exceptions. If my memory serves me correct, major sports events (Petit Le Mans, Super Bowl, etc) and promotional deals are largely advertised on the dashboard (They have the largest box).

I just logged into my xbox to see and ad for a free movie weekend promotional deal that they are doing. With ads for X Games Munich, the X1, CoD Double XP weekend, Resident Evil Damnation, and Netflix. None of that bothers me since I could have avoided the dashboard completely.

There is 1 ad, usually at the bottom right slot. I remember because there was an Old Spice ad, and I usually enjoy those commercials so I just sat and watched it lol. The rest are usually just game notifications such as Double XP or Half off sales

I really hope its true, he just always came off abit robot to me and then that comment he made about sticking to Xbox 360 just cemented to me how much of a douche he is.

No longer a rumor, as Zynga has officially confirmed Mattrick as their new CEO.

There are more MS suits within that XBox division that should find work elsewhere and vacate the premises.
