According to an internal Microsoft e-mail sent to all full-time employees working on the next Xbox, "Durango [the codename for the next Xbox] is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet." It continues, "There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game."

So new xbox should work offline to some extent and seems MS may have changed policy with this email being sent out?
 
That last part..

"and yes, playing a single player game."

Makes it seem like that wasn't part of the original plan. After the internet blew up after the rumor of you not being able to play single player games offline, they might have changed it.

..maybe I'm reading too much into it.. oh well..

Without seeing the full email and knowing the context its written in, its very hard to actually say if this is just a clarification of the position that has always been or a change in position.

Whichever it would seem to be the 'right' news in that regard.
 
In my opinion it was probably just employees who were not in the loop finally being informed. Possibly save another #dealwithit situation? Who knows, always online for games would not affect most people but I don't believe it is/was a viable option for MS at this point in time.

Still a lot of questions and rumours to dispel or confirm for me personally, like used games might be an issue, not enough of an issue to dampen my interest too much to be fair, but what you get for Live gold might be as at this point in time I don't feel it is enough to justify my subs as I can play most of the multiplayer games I normally play elsewhere for free.

Probably the most important question for me is would there be an SKU that doesn't either tie you to a contract or makes you pay upfront for a service I may or may not use enough to justify the cost? Going off this gen I have probably used live for online gaming about 6 months in the last 4-5 years.
 
^ I believe it was clearly read out of context and caused people to overreact. Like always. The Infinity obviously is not going to restrict every game in the world to "online only". I cant believe people believed or thought that would happen. lol For online mp games then yes I could see that. But for games that are only offline single player games like Skyrim, that would make no sense at all to force online only. Some games will have that, like Defiance currently does, but obviously not every game will have that. Just a misunderstood exaggeration that got carried out of hand. Cant wait until the 21st so the people going crazy over some of these rumors will finally be put to rest.

Sounds strange when you definitively call it the Infinity.

We'll know pretty soon. I find Infinity also sounds corny, cheesy and moronic. Accurate would finite as it has limitations and a shelf life, some could argue its already outdated as a product ie the console. Also the name is 4 syllables, people will say finity which is not far from finite, the total opposite of infinity.
 
I feel the opposite, I think Infinity is an awesome and very clever name seeing as the mathematical symbol for infinity is a sideways 8 which ties into Microsoft's Windows 8 and all their other '8' products.

I'm as interested in GT6 as anyone else, perhaps even more so but how is GT6 a strong competitor when many of the things it's touting Forza has laid claim to since FM3?

Of course, it all comes down to the execution of these features. :P
 
Forza 5 as next gen is a great move,FM4 has done it's job on current gen.Looking forward to it.

Edit:wasn't really looking forward to anything from this announcment now can't wait for Forza and fifa.
 
Less than a day away. I'm tempering my expectations. I think they will play the same game as Sony, no console reveal, limited details and show us a few release titles.

Really looking forward to Forza 5. It MUST have weather and day/night especially if it is on the next xbox. I loved everything about Forza 4. But its time for Forza to move onto the next gen console and truly show what they can do.

Agreed. I think Forza 4 pushed the 360 to its limit. Really looking forward to what T10 can do with a more powerful console.

Rumors have been out for a while that EA is going to enter into a relationship with Microsoft. We should find out more details tomorrow

And Im sure they'll show the console. I think part of the delays were them waiting on a final build to show. Also the Major Neilson guy trashed Sony for not showing the console

Seems so,looks like BF4 will get a run in tomorrow as well.

Why are you so sure it's called Infinity? See my post above, that image is fan created.
 
E3 is less then a month away, so it does not even matter if they don't show the console. I hope they give more info on Xbox Live and the ability to play online without Xbox Live Gold. I would still buy live (I use programs like ESPN which need xbox live gold), and if I ever remember I will get PS+.

I would probably buy the next xbox if they said "you can play multiplayer games with a silver membership."
