Still, 3GB (speculated at least) is way too much for a console.
http://gimmegimmegames.com/2013/05/microsoft-confirms-xbox-one-os-uses-3gb-ram-5gb-ram-for-games/

That's 3GB as opposed to the PS4's expected 1GB for the OS.

Expected, so it still could be any number, but for the XBOX we already know.

EDIT: Gratz fatkrakr on 1000th post! :)

The amount of RAM doesn't really affect the consoles power, it just affects how much a console can do with that power. At least that's how I look at RAM.

Numbers shmumbers, E3 will finally shown what kind of a line up Xbox One has to offer / attract potential buyers. When i hear 8 totally new brand for this game console it looks more attractive than just another numbers like Resident Evil 7 added at the end of game title.

So for now I'm closing this thread until E3, then you all can come back and discuss Xbox One further. :sly: .... if only i could have moderation powers ;)

So PS4 has 40% more RAM available for games then the Xbox One. 7GBs vs 5GBs. And the Wii U has 1GB of useable memory for games.

FYI Killzone Shadow Fall (PS4) used 4.6GBs of total memory. LINK

Xbox One will still display nice looking games though. In terms of memory, it could handle Killzone Shadowfall. But in the next 2-3 years when the PS4 starts to sprint ahead in terms of visuals the Xbox One will run out of gas

I can't imagine the next gen GT on PS4 if it will use all of PS4 RAM and suck the power juice dry, the visuals would be leaps and bounds compared to launch title like Driveclub or Xbone's FM5.

According to an Analyst, the X1 will be 399 USD while the PS4 will be 349 USD- http://finance.yahoo.com/news/analyst-xbox-one-priced-399-153941625.html

Whats interesting is the X1's bill of materials totaling $325 and Sony's bill of materials total $275. If there's truth to this, Microsoft will be in an even tougher place than what 'the street' is predicting.

But the rumor is Microsoft will sell a cheaper Xbox One, maybe around $199, but require a 2 year contract worth about $15 a month, similar to their current strategy with the $99 Xbox 360. Problem is you end up paying way more then $399. Closer to $699.

I hope nobody buys that because its a ripoff and a business practice that needs to be stamped out for good. Its like those rip off rentacenter places.

Gran Turismo on PS4 will be astonishing. Too bad we have to wait 2+ years to see it.

That's why GT6 is coming for PS3, so we won't have to wait those years not playing GT

I hope MS will sell Xbone without contract too - full price. I hate contract schemes.

Is the pricing of PS4 and Xbone on that article plausible ? I am getting a another new PS3 soon, I might as well wait until end of the year :nervous: but then I can't play GT6 or GT5 anymore :grumpy:

I don't think we'll be seeing a GT game on PS4 until 2015-2016 the earliest. Could even be 2017. I mean 3 years post GT5 we see GT6 which is apparently carrying over a ton of stuff from GT5.
Forza Motorsport will be on it's 6th or 7th iteration by the time GT hits next gen on PS4.

I say 2014/15

Not necessarily GT7 though.

I do not care much for the all in one idea either. As stated all in one devices are typically inferior and if you depend on an all in one device then you are basically putting all your eggs in one basket so if it fails you loose it all rather than just your gaming console.

That brings me on to a further "Xbone of contention". Does the prime gamer of the house really want the prime tv watcher(s), and prime everythingelser(s) in the home constantly wanting to use their precious device that holds precious save data and such? I bought a PS3 when it was effectively the best BD player available, but later bought a standalone BD player so as to not wear the poor thing out. It's potential annoying, and maybe devastating, but also: power + small size + low production cost + constantly running = a pack mule carrying the whole village on it's back? Maybe. Or maybe the only question is: which colour light of death will we get this time.

The fact that he is "working on it" means he needs to get all the misleading info in order and sugar coat it the best he can.

Can't just come out and clear it up? Who does he need to address, the public or the media?

He adresses the public via the media.

Why would it?

Considering in the past, PS3 FAT launch models were quite hot when running, and Xbox360 RROD, and now with higher spec hardware, and small form factor design, heating issue might become a bigger problem. If Xbone really have to underclock just to make is safe and avoid RROD round 2, then there's a chance PS4 with similar hardware spec would have the same issue ? I am worried that expected life span of next gen console would only be around 2 years or less with frequent use. My slim PS3 YLOD after 3 years, I changed the thermal paste after a year, always ran it cool, but still die anyway.

I've seen PCs with multiple times the TDP and still not having cooling issues. It's just a matter of how you design your console and the cooling system.

Keep it clear of dust it will definitely help. Running a fan around it keeps it cool as well. Nothing genius of course and it shouldn't have heating issues anyway.

Ahh well, I occasionally use my fat PS3 as heater sometimes.

It probably already broke the 10k hours mark. :dopey:

(Sony must add a feature which displays the running time. If not for PS3 then for PS4.) (again->) :dopey:

This is what boggles me, why don't MS change the design instead lowering the clock speed ?

Yep, did all that, I have 2 small fans sucks out air of the PS3 Slim rear vents, put it above the ground with 2 cm clearance, cleaned the insides every 6 months, still got YLOD :(

I wish we could have temperature sensor display on our console menu. I think this will help avoid many YLOD.

It's too late, waaaaaaayyyyyy too late.

Temperature sensor for what? HDD? Enclosure base? Displaying CPU temperature is kinda pointless.

Not for PS4, they haven't shown the console yet :D

Fan temperature ? I don't know which one is critical to the console, GPU + CPU temp maybe ? If I can see overall temperature of the insides, at least I can judge for myself if it worth the risk to continue playing or leave the game to XMB to let it cool down.

One thing is for sure, MS and Sony needs to put better thermal paste on their consoles and better cooling system. My original slim PS3 thermal paste was bad after a year of use, replaced with a better one from leftovers when I build PCs a few years back, only to last 2 years before it went dry flakes. Now I got supplies of Arctic Cooling MX4, works like a charm on my laptops and PCs.

Rumor: Microsoft cancels E3 post press conference rountable with media.

Gameranx
After the E3 press conferences take place, most console manufacturers carve out some time for the media. This portion of the show is known as a roundtable, where the press have an opportunity to get any and all questions that weren’t addressed during the event answered. However, it sounds like instead of dealing with all the tough questions head on, Microsoft will be skipping out on this type of conversation completely.

“Microsoft has cancelled its E3 post-press conference roundtable with the media,” said Sun Media reporter Steve Tilley. “Not sure what to make of that.”

We'll see if MS have a response to the news before/during E3. So far, Xbox One rumors are not positive.
