Me too.
FPS games are to blame for lack of innovation I think.
Yearly releases of the same old same old is so boring, vast amounts of DLC and season passes, ugh.
I don't see a great deal of gameplay difference between FPS last-gen,this -gen,or next-gen

It's not the genre. The Megadrive was massively bogged down with platformer after platformer, in the same mode of "lack of innovation". It's developers being fearful and uninspired, and consumers being short sighted and boring that can take the blame in my opinion. In a twist of fate, the platformer's return has given birth to some of the best innovation in recent times.

Besign and Perspective

I think they did a great job with the new controller. It just looks very good and we have to see, if the improvements to triggers and other parts will work. I didnt thought the xbox 360 controller could be much improved anymore, but they proved me wrong.

The console on the other hand. Well, it looks like a high quality product. But there are no buttons other than the xbox one button on the front. How will I be able to connect my peripherals and what if I want to switch my controller between pc and xbox one?? Another problem I see, is the size. Many players are maybe younger and still live in their small room or also students that dont have a big tv setup with much room for such an "entertainment" system.

Cant wait for E3!

Now I wait...

"But it stil gets cod dlc erly!!1!"

Which is big arguement to buy the One for a big chunk of CoD players. It really sounds silly, but this decision was already very smart on the Xbox 360.

If Microsoft makes more money, they can throw more money into exclusive games and deals.

Buying a console only for getting the possibility to buy a few DLCs for one single game about 2 weeks earlier...

Smart people! Very! People nowadays...

Microsoft defends the design of the Xbox One,

The Independent
Microsoft defends 'holistic' design of Xbox One: Is it sneaking a PC into the living room?

Although most of the anger directed at the new Xbox One has focused on Microsoft’s policies regarding second-hand games, the actual look of the new console has also been met with confusion.

Microsoft took to its blog yesterday to defend their new design, despite unflattering comparisons between the One and old fashioned VCRs.

“Xbox has always had something to say,” said Carl Ledbetter, creative director of Industrial Design for the One, “It’s always been bold with a strong personality.”

Ledbetter also designed the Xbox 360 S, and The Verge has been among those pointing out the similarities between the two designs.

Matte black features heavily in both, alongside a segmented construction and diagonal vents.

Microsoft describes the One as designed from a “holistic perspective” to create a sense of unity between “hardware and user interface.”

While this sort of ethos may not be the most apparent feature for consumers, the similarities between the One’s UI and that of Windows 8 and Surface are striking. They also show how Microsoft’s desire for a “holistic” system really means further collusion between its console and PC markets.

Calling the dashboard of the new Xbox One “an experience centred on simplicity and intuitive navigation” is fine if consumers are on board with the experience of using Windows 8, but – as a recent roll-back for the Windows 8.1 update of the OS show - this may be a fairly rare experience.

Many industry commentators have seen the new console as Microsoft’s attempt to sneak a PC into the living room, and the shared design language between the One’s UI and Windows 8 seem to confirm these suspicions.

I still think its rather bland and uninspiring, yes it has nice detailing and surfaces up close but it is still a rectangular black box. The designer did a good job on the 360s but this design is terrible IMO. Its a games console not a satellite box, its meant to evoke something and lots of consoles in the past have had interesting designs.

Microsoft has taken this Metro purity thing too far to the point where things go from being simple to being boring.

I'm hoping Sony don't also go the minimalist route and do some alien like split pyramid design like the rumours that have been circulating.

As for the Kinect always on thing including the mic, that's really bad, they could potentially visually spy on people all the time.

It doesn't matter too much to me, with my current setup I can't even see my PS3 when I'm playing but I do think it could have done with some design flares, some curves here and there. The 360s are all primarily just boxes but they have curves and angles. This really is just a rectangular cuboid.

Yeah I really do not care much about the way it looks, I may actually like that aspect of it better than the 360 or PS3 but that is small potatoes compared to the used games, rented games, lent games, steering wheel support, always on camera and mic.

Of course being a developer myself one thing that is on my mind is what tools will be available to create applications for the XBone and what kinds of fees will they be charging to post created apps, games to the market place

Missed opportunity

They could've had a Price is Right stage set up, bring on Speilberg and some of the audience to guess the price of the Xbox One, winner gets a 12+1 subscription to Cable TV and Xbox Live plus a big televsion.

If my kinect breaks for whatever reason , will my xbox one still function ?
Will I be forced to get another one and who is paying for it considering I dont even want kinect
in the first place ? Will microsoft give out replacements for free?

Nothings free in water world.

We shall see. Can't say I was too thrilled with presentation (though it wasn't nearly to extent people in this thread have shown) so I'm definitely tuning in to the E3 Presentation.

Has Spike announced their programming schedule?

I guess it depends on what you define as broken? If it's smashed up through negligence, then you'd have to buy a new one. If it fails through use, then it should be covered by the manufacturer warranty. I can see a few legal cases over this, because the end users won't understand that the Kinect is part of the console, like the BR drive, HDD or CPU. If the HDD was to break down through normal use, then the manufacturer wold have to replace it. If, however, the end user damaged the HDD, then they would be liable for the replacement.

Even though they say no T.V at E3 I doubt everyone trusts Micro$oft. I personally don't buy the "we wanted to get the boring stuff out of the way first" excuse, that is some BS imo. They just got a ton of backlash from a poor reveal and are trying to come up with an excuse to counter it. I bet they will do a bunch of games stuff at E3 after the last week or so of hate but first impressions count and Micro$oft messed up.

A bunch of people are now saying "wait for E3", heck even IGN is saying it, well whatever they got their big reveal and didn't give any love to gamers. They had their opportunity to be in the spotlight and using the "wait until E3" approach after a reveal event is a little odd to say the least. They better deliver with E3 because Micro$oft is on the back foot now in terms of the gaming aspect of their console.

As of right now I have next to no interest in buying the console, I have cable and I doubt NZ will get much love in terms of the services offered. I also think the idea of an all-in-one box is dumb, I buy a console to play games not use kinect and watch T.V. If PS4 has a few more good-looking exclusives I will most likely go for that instead.

You seriously think Microsoft didn't write and rehearse that presentation and think/know it would get heat from people wanting to see games? They're not stupid, they knew very well that conference was not going to appeal to gamers and would get flak for all the TV stuff. The suggesting that the gaming stuff at E3 is a reaction to the poor reception is pretty unfounded, especially when they already stated BEFORE the first conference that was their plan.

Samus does have a point. :P

It is a good point, you have me beat, but I still don't really see much logic behind it, get a ton of hate and be on the backfoot for gamers going into E3, I don't really get it. They just did a poll over on IGN, 4:1 preferred PS4 at this stage, is that really what MS wanted ?.

Oh and you may have misread my point or I didn't explain it well enough, I am sure they were intending to have a bunch of game related stuff at E3 but they wouldn't be shoving that message home as much if it weren't for all the hate. Also they may not be stupid but I do think they expected a bit more enthusiasm for the T.V stuff or they underestimated the percentage of gamers that watched that reveal. Otherwise you could pose the question as to why they would internationally garner dislike from the majority of viewers who watched the reveal, first impressions count.

Well MS obviously think the TV stuff and selling it as one whole device makes sense, that's why they designed it. We can agree or disagree with that but that's what MS went for. Now, they obviously need to promote it at some point and is the premiere games show the place to do it? No, so they are left with two simple options, reveal all the TV stuff first then go onto games or the other way round. Personally if they really want to sell it as an all in one it was right to go the way they did, otherwise the games may gloss over it and nobody will pay attention.

Going with it first at the first reveal they ensured they had the attention of everyone, even if they knew a lot wouldn't be happy.

Also as someone else said further up, gamers can be fickle and very forgetful. If MS knock the gamers socks off at E3 with game stuff and announce a competitive price for the box people will quickly forget the TV stuff. I mean look at the PS3 2006 E3 conference, it was shocking but people quickly forgot once PS3 picked up steam and got some better games.

I still think price is going to be the absolte key thing here. If PS4 and One are closely priced then for a lot of people the TV and Kinect stuff won't matter, it's take it or leave it. The only decision then will be the games. If the One is a lot more than the PS4 however they're going to struggle because the core gamers will all draw the simple conclusion that the stuff they don't want has driven the price up.

That's why I think MS may sell the One at a loss to start with. Only time will tell though.

That's another good point. Not sure why MS would want to earn lots of hate for what excatly, for lots of attention at E3?

I still kinda think it wasn't smart of them to do from the presentation though, maybe to get the whole T.V. thing out of the way or something? :\

You're clearly over the age of 13 (as its required to register here as a member), as such I find it rather disturbing that your posts contains such school yard nonsense as 'Micro$oft'.

I'm going to make this clear to you once and once only, its Microsoft, and should you feel that you are not able to discuss the subject of this thread in a mature manner, without resorting to such nonsense as this, then the staff will give you a few days off from the site to think about it.

Please keep in mind this is not a subject open for debate, either do as requested or stop posting in this thread.
