I'm a bit fed up with all the negativity towards the driving standards in GTS, so I thought I'd celebrate some of the good guys out there.

Here's a screenshot of the end of the Gr4 race at Brands Hatch.

From that you would fully expect, as I did, that I was heading for an appointment with the gravel trap, or at least the grass.

What happened was, I was 2nd behind Ballistic_Slippy on the last lap. He takes the inside line early on so I have nowhere to go but round the outside. I was fully expecting that the gravel trap outside Clearways had my name on it, but as the top 3 were well clear, I thought I'd go for it anyway.

Part way round the last corner I realised he was holding his line and that I was marginally faster!

It would appear that not everyone is a ramming idiot.

Kudos to Ballistic_Slippy and all the other good guys out there. Keep doing what you're doing. 👍

To be fair, the people at the front are usually experienced drivers. That's why they often have clean battles with mostly one or two cars. All of my best races have been at the front, with the exception of one on Blue Moon. Lots of bumping into each other in that race but overall nothing too dramatic. I guess those guys would be my candidates for good behaviour, because they were under constant pressure from at least 3 other drivers and they managed to get to the finish line in one piece and without ruining it for someone else.

I run a lot of laps before I even enter a sport mode race and I end up starting the races near a lot of other players who do the same, so the racing has been mostly good for me. I've seen more great racers like Ballistic_Slippy than dirty racers in my short-ish time in sport mode. In my opinion most collisions between players are because of lack of practice around whatever the track is we're all racing on.

I have had a lot of clean, fun online races even though I start mid-pack or at the back of the grid. Sure, mistakes are made, by me too, but I haven't had this much satisfaction and enjoyment out of any other online racer ever on console. I must be lucky because I really haven't suffered from or witnessed any outright dirty racing. Maybe I'm lucky to be thrown in with mostly Japanese drivers who seem to race pretty clean.

GTS has managed to do the almost impossible feat of getting me to race online and enjoy it, and keep me coming back for more. Bravo PD!

I absolutely agree Chen. The has made me feel good jumping into races with random ppl online. No other racing title I can say that about. Have only seen a few asshats in gts

I had a fantastic slipstream cooperation experience at Blue Moon in last week's Competition race with JM-Elda. Think it was the Manufacturer's Cup and worked with this guy for the whole race and we got up to the 4th and 5th position after starting outside the top 10.
Messaged him after the race to thank him and he appreciated it as well. Great fun throughout the race.

Pretty much most of the races I have been in have been enjoyable and surprisingly clean. That was until a race at brands yesterday.
Worst 5 laps i have ever had in any race. Started in 5th spot, took second by halfway in the first lap due to everyone else going paddock bashing only to have the dude in first place bump me across the ripple strip for a 6 second slow down penalty. Then while trying to gain my position back, I get slammed into the kitty litter by a noob just out to cause grief.
I don't know what the people next door thought but the were several loud choice words about these guys parents and how they were born!

These couple of days I've started playing Sport Mode again, and its been good fun! Particularly in Brands Hatch Gr. 3 races, 90% of my races were clean races with one or two minor bumps.

That 10% belongs to this one race where guy in 3rd pushed me (2nd) out of the second corner and I got bumped out. Eventually got my footing again, and got to 2nd again when he ran off the track in one of the sweeping corners.

Both the clean drivers and that bad one was from Japan. My region were mostly Korean and Japanese (and a few Aussies). Climbed up from DR C to B but I'm still stuck at SR B for now.

Tbh I've had more good clean fun than bumper cars. Obviously I've seen and been on the receiving end of some real idiots, but on the whole my races have been close and clean.

I've had a few experiences like this, one that sticks out was in the nations cup sometime last week. I'd qualified about 5th and a fellow brit was in 2nd, posting in the online chat 'please drive clean', I thought to myself 'theres a slim chance of that mate'. Anyway after a couple of laps he'd lost a place and I'd gained one, for about 3 laps we traded places all with fair, clean but hard racing. Thanked him afterwards, I think he was a little miffed as he made a mistake and ended up 6th but appreciated the battle. Sometimes people just have the same sort of style and temperament and this game just works...

Thanks for your feedback, I enjoyed reading it! And +1 with Tekku. There is no magic, when you look at the race's result, you can often see the first half is full of blue, latter half full of red.

Funny because 2-3 days ago I had a race with one guy from France (if I remember well) that did type the same thing.
After the race he was the ONLY one in the lobby (apart from 2 guys that were dead last) that did not have a blue SR.And also he was actually hitting everyone (me included) coming from behind to gain positions.

Yeah, I find a lot of people say that prior to race and are unable to practice what they preach, for once though this guy did. Very refreshing.

Great post and good to see some positive feedback.

I had 2 great battles around Alsace Village the other day and although i won neither race (2nd and 5th) i just wanted to play more and more as the racing was good and clean. Its amazing how fun this game can be even when you dont win, you can still get the biggest buzz from a really great battle.

I cannot remember the name of the racer that i traded places with multiple times on the first of those races, but whoever it was, well done!

doesn't tell the whole story. if you finish bottom pack because of an incident not of your doing. I had a race yesterday where the guy behind rear ended me causing me to punt the guy in front off the track. Twice! Sometimes being bottom pack and red can be the result of a couple idiots affecting the many.

I was thinking about starting a thread like this, kudos to you. I have had more good/ fun races than bad. Even when I didn't start up front.

One that comes to mind... in the nation's cup race on Saturday. There was some bumping and banging, it's Tokyo after all. But, one moment stood out. On lap 2 when I hit the straight. I slip-streamed a car right up to his bumper. I was running 12th at the time. I stayed there, never touched him. By the end of the straight, we were running 3rd and 4th. We worked in perfect harmony.

Another one... I ran a great race with marcelvdm at Kyoto. We ran together the whole race. We worked together and got way out in front of the pack. Then we swapped places a few times, always clean. I passed him in the last turn, because a backmarker screwed him up. But, we finished 1 2 and had a blast!

Yes, especially on some circuits, one punt in the first corner can cause you to hit multiple cars and if it's only a 2 or 3 lapper you'll likely end up near the back and with a red rating.

At least with the S safety rating guys most accidents seem to be just that, it's only a handful that are wrecking people on purpose, sadly it only takes one to completely ruin a race.

I think the same, there more fair racers instead of unfair races, I was doing a big mistake again on Friday where I was freaking out, and I was doing a crash Racing, because I was really pissed.

But after 10 minutes break I had a good race with this guy......

Love the Game

My post from Saturday night...

Perhaps somewhat of a balance to the 'threads of pain', and for me, proof that on-line can work brilliantly with the right approach :)

I've just put my wheel away after a near 9 hour session of back to back races on-line at Suzuka in the grp4 daily.

It's been by far the best on-line experience I've had since way back in GT5P... Clean, polite, gentlemanly even, but still super fast, hard racing.

I started the day mid DRB, SRS, finished a third of the way along DRA (and still SRS ;)). I don't know exactly how many races I had; around 20 I think. In all those races, I never touched another car, and another car made contact with me only once - and there was no intent; it was nothing more than a 'racing incident'.

Most of the time I was far from the fastest, but with a bit of draft, a focus on hitting brake points and apexes and getting a good exit, I held my own, winning a few races and taking a few poles/fastest laps... but to be honest, I couldn't have cared if I hadn't won one race.

At times, there were 5 or 6 cars nose to tail, at others we were 2 wide through the Esses with zero contact. No one stuffed it up the inside from miles back, everyone one gave room, no one tried the silly pass in to 130r.

It was joyous.

A shout out to those that made my day in case they are on here (excuse me if I forget anyone)...

For those who are struggling on-line, I have this advice... work on your driving skills! If you can get to SRS, and you're fast enough to hang with top end of DRB rated drivers, the racing is just ****ing awesome.

I decided today to try and claim the Clean Races Achievement by having 15 consecutive "accident - free" races. You have to have a penalty free race for this award to happen...I found out the hard way on this! Race A today was at the Kyoto D. P. - Miyabi in the Clio R. S. 220 EDC Trophy '15...not my favorite car but since I will be driving around at the back of the pack, it really doesn't matter. :)

I will not do a qualifying lap to insure I am at the back of the bus but I practiced for 45 minutes in arcade mode to help me with driving the car and make sure I don't make a rookie mistake and incur a cheap penalty. In the beginning, there was another driver doing the same and he immediately let me pass. I did see a lot of fun tooling around and at one point I was in 5th place heading to the final slow turn before the chicane and I saw another car coming flying up to me and I figured there goes my clean race. But...no, we both went through the slow corner together giving each other space and the following chicane without issue! :nervous:

In the first seven races this happened several times and I was so impressed with the other drivers around me but as the day worn on the drivers changed and I had to stay at the back to protect my investment. The last four races were nerve racking as I wanted to drive fast and not take a Sunday morning drive around the park but I needed to stay away from any potential conflicts...I finished the 15th race and the Clean Races Achievement is, finally, on the books! 👍

This is a good combo track/car for anyone else who would like to do this in the future...it is a short race that repeats quickly, the front of the pack can't lap you, and you can control your placement by not qualifying. This does come at a price though... I was already a S for SR and at the start of the day I was a C (about 40% shy of B) for DR...I ended the day at the start of D! :yuck:

I decided to do one more race after qualifying and had the pole position with a wonderful race with the second fastest driver that saw us going back and forth for 5 laps trading a bit of paint here and there but giving each other room...each of us had the lead and he almost got me at the wire but I held on for my third win while giving him the opportunity to catch me on the final straight by staying on my racing line all the way to the finish...💡

So, yes, there are some very good guys out there! 👍👍

I just want to mention @Herrybo79, who tried to give me my place back at the end of a race at Maggiore - even though it was some other driver who bounced back on track in front of me at the last corner causing me to lose the position! 👍 I slowed as well so he kept the place, because I was simply unlucky that time. Looking forward to a rematch
