Not sure if it's been mentioned (I haven't read ALL the replies), so apologies if it has:

Chip tuning:

In real life chipping a turbocharged engine gives MUCH better results than chipping an N/A engine. As I'm sure most of you know this is because the boost pressure can be increased. In the GT games, chipping for example a Mitzi Evo gives an extra 10-12 BHP; about the same as chipping an M3 or similar N/A engine. That's so wrong! In real life, chipping an Evo or any similar forced-induction engine gives at least an extra 40 BHP, due to the increased boost. Granted, the increases for N/A engines are not far off; 10-12 BHP for a medium capacity 6-8 cylinder engine is close enough.

My own Audi 1.8 Turbo Sport (in real life, not GT...!) has been chipped, and it went from 150 BHP to 203 BHP. Remapping the boost is the single most effective way of tuning a turbocharged engine.

I had the same thing in my mind. A friend of mine put a chip in his Golf GTi 1.8t and got from 150 to 200 hp. In the game there is the same IV golf and with the chip I got 6 more horsepower :indiff:

Something other than just split times at certain points on the track. Use the current split time points for measuring your current lap vs your previous lap(s). Split times should be live, a la NFSU. Keep the graphics and the carbon fiber bits out of the game. Just bring in the timing system.

definately the racing MOD from GT1 and 2. doubles the amount of cars practically

resprays/decals (not like NFSU2 style, just simplistic stuff)

better spoilers (the gt4 ones suck)

less pointless cars. i have never used the nike, toyota triathlon or merc diamler patent cars.

Paint, decals, and body kits top my list. I rather not see damage. While this is a driving simulator it is still a game and is ment to allow you to do a lot of things that you couldnt do in real life. But on that note they also should be more realistic with power figures.

A nice little touch would be if your screen (in bumper or roof cam view) got “dirty” over time, especially if you or the car in front goes off the track. On the longer races it could be something that gets cleaned up when you do a pit stop.

How about the ability to save your game midway through a race. I don't understand why they couldn't do this. I don't like the idea of using B-Spec, I would race entire endurance races. Unfortunately, I don't have time to sit there and play a race for more than 2 hours, much less 24.

The ability to actually buy engines (i.e. Hemi, RB24DETT, 2JZA80, etc.) instead of just upgrading the stock engine, how about buying standalone engines. Like big blocks, small blocks, Supra engines, Skyline engines, stuff like that. For once, how about rewind in replay too lol. I would also like to see some sort of heads up drag racing and the Salt Flats (land speed records are tested there out, long open area, I think it's all dirt too but still cool) How about instead of the map like the one on GT4, just a big world map, and you choose from country to country where to go (A map of the US has different states and at the state, it has the company logo's next to it. So instead of them all just being categorized in USA, you would move the cursor to lets say Georgia and find Pagani) just some things I been thinking about since I been playing the last 3 days that's just been a good idea to me. How about adding company cars like TITAN Motorsports Supra etc. ***Don't know if any of this has been posted, if it has, then glad at least some people think alike***

HKS_T51KAI
For Japanese cars, 2 boost settings high and low, able to adjust boost and remapping the ECU for better fuel mixture for the right mixture of A/F (Air:Fuel) if not already covered. Plus up to 5 different body kits to choose for most common models.

Why just the Japanese cars? Surely any car with a turbo should have this function? Man, I thought it was just Polyphony Digital who were biased, not the actual gamers!!! (RICER!)

Anyway, damage would be good, but it's hard to say where to draw the line. Incorporating damage into 'the real driving simulator' in as realistic a fashion as possible would pose a few hurdles for PD. Crashing head on into a barrier at 200MHP would be fatal in real life, so how do you get round that? Crashing at a lower speed may cause injury to the driver, so do they add a hospital to the GT map as well as all the locations? The more realistic it gets, the it turns into a Sim City type of game. Maybe it's a good thing. Who knows!

One thing I would have liked to see on GT4 is some kind of introduction mode.

Starting as a complete beginner to the series, this game appeared ****. I tried the license tests, assuming they'd be a gentle introduction, but no, they're a complete arse. The text that tells you what to do is far to complex and long winded for a beginner. The video is good, but only when you change out of the cinematic view. Why not simply have the videoed run as a ghost image. Or even easier, just have a nice big line painted on the course showing the ideal line, maybe turning red or something during braking points.

After wasting my time trying doing the first license test I thought I'd try some racing. Obviously not having a GT3 game to get cash from I had to start with just 10,000. GREAT!!! I thought I'd simply mod my Lupo from the license test to save cash. But where to start... absolutely no help from the game [I think I blew it on exhaust(stage 1)/brakes and engine(stage 1)] Without any sort of transmission, this left me shafted with no cash left.

It's far too easy to mess up like this as a newbie. I would like to see you start in GT5 with a relatively slow car, but one that already has most of the parts purchased. This should help encourage newbies to learn how to set up a car too, as the adjustable suspension/transmission/LSD are too expensive to buy initially.

Regarding the damage issue, I think all it needs is some sort of system where if you smash into a wall/opponent at 100+mph, you're automatically retired from the race.

And just imagine how it was 8 years ago on PSone and first GT - where there was no help text at all :)

typical, you seem to know about flashy "modding" but little about the engine, most of the cars can be tuned to those figures, although people in real life cannot afford to modify a car to that spec, it can be done. all you need is "dosh"

How about the ability to do a decent burnout? Taking a 1,000 hp race car out and only hazing the tires...yeah....right. I could do a better burnout in my 85 toyota tercel wagon that only ran on 3 cylindrers. Sometimes after a long race I want to relax and due a huge, smokey, tire shreadding burnout. Btw, it would also be nice to see the rubber or "black lines" on the ground.

More realisim in the tuning section.

1. A propper port and polish job on a v8 will net you alot more then 10 hp. A 10hp port and polish job could be performed by a drunk monkey.

2. Displacemnet up??? Is that some sort of joke? I have about 400 cars in my garage and have only been able to do this on one so far. Is PD saying that you can only increase the displacemnet on a dodge viper? This option should be available on every car, and in diferent sizes. ever heard of a stoker motor....apparently PD hasnt.

3. Nitrous, while it is fun it is so wrong its not funny. I dont understand how or why the "shot" sizes are the way they are. Only 50hp on a GTO, yet its 100hp on a Subaru? That doesnt make sense. It should be the other way around. Normally the bigger the engine is the bigger the shot can be. The average nitrous kit on the market today for a GTO, Mustang, or other American v8 is 50hp to 150hp for the import cars the shot sizes are smaller, generally up to 75hp. Like I have said, these are general...drag racers are runing huge shot sizes, upwards of 500hp..some times multiple shots of the size. If they want to offer Nitrous Oxide they should atleast make it semi realistic.

4. Superchargers, come on PD, do some research. They do work wonders to boost the low end but they dont die on the upper end like the ones in GT4 do. In my expiernce the roots type make more horsepower the higher the rpms go. Look at top fuel drag racing...they use the roots type of supercharger and make power at way higher rpms then the superchargers in the game.

5. Engine Swaps....DUH!!!! This is a very overlooked option. Tons of hot rodders have done changed out engines. Lots of people take out a smaller engine and place a larger one in there. The old saying, "there is no replacement for dislpacement" hasent been around for decades for no reason.

6. Tuning the Transmission, was this meant a joke? Final drive ratio, mabey its just me, but I thought the combination of what ever gear you are in and the gears in the differential equal the final drive ratio. Possibly that option was meant as the differential gear? If so, still wrong. I will admit this concept is a little confusing, but here it goes. Numarically lower gears, ie 2.50 are meant for high speed. Numarically higher gears, ie 4.56 are meant for acceleration. Now here is where it gets tricky, numarically lower gears are commanly refered to a "high gears" and numarically higher gears are refered to a "low gears". Dont ask me why im not the one who made that up.

7. Wheels. Soo many options for color and style, but no option for size. How about an option for height and width?

Different tracks.

1. Since alot of people are into seeing how fast their cars can go, what their top speed is...how about a track based on the salt flats? It could be a 3 or 4 mile striaght track with cones as a boundary...it would be fairly simple to create.

2. Drag racing...I love this track! Too bad it isnt an option in arcade. That would have been an incredible idea. PD missed the boat on that one. It could increase the fun level tremdously if you were able to run this track in 2 player mode.

Track Editior. I know this one would be tricky, if it would be any easier make it available in arcade mode only without ai. It would be awesome to take advantage of a few of the cars like the 1970 Chapparal 2j, or the Saleen s7 that can actaully drive upside down. I dont know if it is possible, but it would kick ass.

Cars.

1. I know that the game is designed in Japan, but how about some cars that arent Japanese? I have nothing against Subaru, Nissan, or Honda yet I see no reason to have 5 nsx race cars that all have the same power levels. If you are gonig to put that many different versions of the same car...make them all noticably different.

2. Varity. Again varity. We dont need 500 plus cars if 50 of them are Subaru's and 50 of them are Honda's you get the point. How about more cars that are less known or from a different country. I liked the availibity of more American and European cars...but is there any way that this can be increased? Instead of a bunch of Cameros and Corvettes, how about an El Camino, or a Nova? Instead of all the mustangs how about a falcon, galaxy of torino?

3. Race cars. Ahh yea...the cars everyone wants. I am happy with most of the race cars, with exception to the 28,000 supras and skylines. If inspiration is lacking how about some vintage nascars, or trans am cars? I love the 1963 Corvette race car...lets have some cars to race it against. Also, would it be possible to have a NASCAR or a truck from the NASCAR Crafstman Truck Series they race on road courses too.

6. Speciality Cars. Whats up with not being able to race certain cars in Gt mode, or even in arcade mode. I was stoked when I bought the Catterham and modifyed it only to have my dreams crushed when I entered the lightweight series and the message popped up telling me that it was a special car and couldnt be raced. I want to be able to race the 1886 Mercedes Motor Carriage on the Nurburing against full race cars if I want.

I dont anyone to think that I hate GT4, I love the game, I just wish that is was a little better. The game has come a long way since GT3...with everyones suggestions hopefully it will be that much better.

I completely agree with you and I couldn't have said it better. And where is the boost guage for the supercharger? No pulley swaps, no blower whine?

1. Better Sounds (my camaro with exhaust sounds like a whimp)
2. More variety of cars (american, european, austrailia, etc...)
3. Paint Shop.
4. Visual changes to car when you do mods ( like a carbon fiber hood when you do a weight reduction)
5. Tire Marks
6. Better Smoke
7. Point-to-point rallies (like in really life)
8. Tarmac Rallies
9. 2 player drag mode
10. Realistic prices for mods.
11. Engine swaps. (b18 + crx= :) )
12. Concept cars can be sold for MONEY!!
13. Option to change wheel size (height and width) when you buy them (with weight penalty/benifit of course). And different sizes for front and rear. That could help oversteer in overpower rwd cars or understeer in fwd ones. Plus it looks cool.
14. A dyno, so you can see where your powerband is. And not the sucky graph in gt4.

1. checkered flag at the end of each race....i want something special at the end of the race to look forward to

2. Engin start button.........i want to hear the engine kicks into life.

3. Clutch button at start of race.....like the F1 system

4. Starting red to Green light with random time to go with the clutch....a test of reaction time

and all the AI, more cars/ tracks that everybody want

I agree too: Some very good points there. Let's hope someone linked to PD is listening!

That's a point actually. Surely we could draw up a comprehensive list of all the things we want in the next game, and send it to PD. Is that possible?

I was thinking that myself, of culling the best ideas out of the "what we want in GT5" threads and emailing them to Polyphony.

Another idea that came to me, looking at the tracksides of Motegi and Fuji, are working scoreboards with cars listed and accurate lap times. And along with my Season and Career Mode ideas, these should list driver's names. I.E., our competition should be people with records and certain driving characteristics, not bots with no identities.

Oh well, off to bed for me.

Needs:
Hopefully Sony and PD are getting the message that we don't just want better AI, but it's an actual need. Since there's no online play here, my sole option is to race against the dullest computer spline-powered opponents who blissfully toss my car around like a toy. It needs to change. Look at Forza for a great example. I don't have an X-Box and I won't be purchasing one, but the AI in the game is novel, revolutionary, and exactly what needs to be in a driving simulator.

Improved physics. Part of what intrigued me about GT4 was the 'realistic physics' which, up to this point, have yet to seem incredibly realistic to me. In what world could the Minolta going top speed get rear-ended around a curve and NOT spin out? The environmental physics also need to be reworked. All barriers in this game are the same, but that's not true of real life. There's no depth to the environment, it's just to keep you penned into the track. I don't want a fully exploratory 3D environment, but if there's a hole in that fence big enough for my car to fit through, I should fit through it. I should hit a barrier and lose all control. This isn't about damage, although I think non-visual damage would be a great and necessary improvement to the game,

The UI of this game leaves so much to be desired. I'm surprised several of the features made it past the planning stage. "Here's a torque curve graph... what units?", "Nobody will want to watch a frame-by-frame replay for photomode ever!", and "The cool oil change animation only takes 20 seconds. That won't get annoying!" are just a couple.

Opponent Balance - The AI gets to shove your car around. None of that. I hit a wall in the Special Conditions Hall I get a 5 second penalty. This is, of course, after I watch the AI do the same thing without a 5 second penalty. I know its there to teach better driving, but it's not accomplishing that task.

Wants:
Improved licensing tests. Some of them are horribly unbalanced - it's easy, VERY easy, to earn bronze, but gold is impossible, while others make earning gold like winning the Toyota RSC Rally Raid. They also need to improve the 'lessons' here. When I first purchased this game, I knew next to nothing about the right technique for many of these skills, and their smooth instructional reference consisted of "watch the demo and notice..." Notice what? I can mimic the demo and get a passable score, but that won't help me in real-world situations unless I know that what the demo is showing me is how to memorize this turn as a late-apex and what kind of steering and braking I need to work on to perfect this type of turn (I learned that all on my own from an entirely separate source). This is especially true for the dirt rallies.

Better car balance. More American and European cars. I love the Jensen-Healey Interceptor, and its the only one in the game. Same with Seat. And Buick. And Dodge, and.. 'Nuff said.

Car Customization options. If you're going to offer a photomode to showcase your vehicles, at least give them something unique to showcase. Paintjobs, window tints, customized drivers, etc

A random used car lot. I can't guarantee that my used car lot here will carry the same car in precisely 700 days for exactly 1 week.

Rework the money issue in the game. Eliminate ATM races and 'prize' cars except based on recent win ratios, skill levels, etc; One-make dealer-sponsered races can have prize cars, or just offer a discount on your next purchase there. In realistic race circuits, are prize cars normally given? Make 2nd place worthwhile - in real-world driving, the best drivers don't always come home with victories, so why does the game make you earn all golds before you get to go to the championship?

Base AI opponents on an a-spec point like system. In the beginning of the game, offer easier, sloppier AI that will fudge the corkscrew and chicanes.

If you're going to include slower cars like the Pao and the Z-Act, make more tracks for them - narrower, quicker tracks like Aria, Capri and Nurburgring. There's no reason these cars need to be on Montegi or Fuji - they're too slow to notice the long, drawn-out curves of those tracks. If you don't want to invest the time to carve out a realistic scenario for them, eliminate them. For that matter, get rid of any car in the game that you don't plan on allowing your gamers to race with. The Nike concept is certainly interesting.. why not let me race with it? What possible reason could you have to prevent me from trying to compete in the Jay Leno Tank Car? Is there any reason that I should not race in my Caterham, or my Prowler? C'mon! What a waste!

Even the playing field. I can take my lil' Fiat 500L and enter it in GTWC, and I'll face cars roughly 20 times more powerful. Im sorry... what? They'll hit me, too. More noticable is the World Classic, where my little 120HP baby can give the competition a really good run for its money, unless you count the AC Cobra in first place.

i agree that its silly having the same NSX cars, why not just 1 and be able to choose the colour

more and better ai

maybe an option which restricts u from using way too powerfull cars for a race so there is better racing???

typical, you seem to know about flashy "modding" but little about the engine, most of the cars can be tuned to those figures, although people in real life cannot afford to modify a car to that spec, it can be done. all you need is "dosh"

True, but not all the figures are realistic. Plus they don't show a lot of the sacrifices that come with overwhelming figures. If they had coolant/water temp. and oil temp affect the performance yes it would be pretty cool to tune cars to those figures and see what happens. Maybe engine transplants are in GT's future...that would also be something I would like to see.

I just finished a rally race :yuck: at Grand Canyon & it came to me: Be able to plunge into the canyon. You would then either have to purchase a new car or spend big $$ on repairs. Also, smash thru barriers & into the crowd, killing onlookers. Finally, be able to run over photographers that stand in the middle of the track. I`m not sure if you`d get A-Spec points for that or not.

yup, now you are talking sense, bloody hell, id love to do some hybrid transplants, thats one thing not alot of people mention.

biggest reason as to why alot of stuff is missing from this game is to do with the maximum potential of the PS2, think about it people, e.g: most cars look great, that equals to high pixel usage, add to that the great looking track, sound, physics, AI, any more and the PS2 will explode, have a look at the machines spec and be surprised. its not that powerful. yet what shocked me was how much they extracted from that.

The ability to boost turbo/supercharger beyond the engine's capability is cool too.

Then we have to tune it to have the best compromise between performance and reliability or the engine will blow midrace.

Damage is one thing that I have doubts about. It's a good thing, but if damage was a factor in GT, the effects would have to be created, not to mention it would be different for basically each car. This would then most likely lead to longer loading and what not. :ill:

Changing weather/night and day are great ideas, especially on 24 hour races.
:sly:
Im not sure if this has been mentioned, but different 24 hour/endurance races might be a good idea. eg. Desert tracks, any rally tracks, Cross country endurance courses opposed to circling the same track acouple hundred times. 💡

One major thing I'd like to see, are custom paint jobs. 💡

More freedom in 2player races. (tracks, cars, etc) 💡

Most of the ideas I've seen are great, only thing is they can really only be used to there full extent when the next PS comes out, unless longer loading and what not is what some people want to see on a GT5 for PS2, which I highly doubt. 👎

I'm certain GT5 will come out for PS3.

No use flogging a dead horse now.

There should be an option to add/remove a digital or analog rev-counter/speed as well as other info such handbrake icon etc.

It would be a good idea to change music during game(like in burnout 3) :)

:dunce: Can any one help me?
When i play my bro, i wan tto use my lovely modified cars with loads of HP BUT,
the cars from my memory card dont seem to keep any of the settings for the race?
they dont seem to have the TCS and the other one i think it is ASM turned on, is there a way to turn them on like the stck cars?? :)

Take out those crappy barrier restrictions..... on grand-canyon wouldnt it be cool to see your car fall of one of them cliffs??? :dopey:

Also I'd push for engine conversions...... throw a higher displacement engine in your car, whatever. More engine mods too!

Also, why not capture the boy-racar theme too. People are wayyyyy too much against these ideas, whats the problem??....... body kits, customised painting, decals, rim sizes, etc. Okay, we can forget neons and nitrous purges etc, but the mods that real racing has are fine IMO (body kits etc).

The car lights need to reflect off objects too.... man it sux at the moment!

Bring back the little garage at the top of the screen, so that if you're in the menu - Japan/Nissan/Tuning for example instead of "triangl-ing" all the way back to the main menu, you can just go to the garage icon..... like in GT1 or 2 or whatever! Why did PD throw all these good aspects out the window???!!! :ouch:

Cheers!
umm because this is NOT NFSU
but i do like usefule things and body kits are useful
painshop would be great cuz when you win that lush car but it is that wird mint green oooooo

I would be very happy if they fixed just 2 things for GT5:

1. accurate collision detection (with body damage)

2. smart computer AI

No doubt they'll also tweak the simulation algorithm quite a bit as well.

Also, a lot of what has been said on this page seem like good improvements to be made, someone should do what Tenacious D has mentioned - culling these ideas and sending them off to PD.

That said, I'm still very impressed with GT4 :)

You know how you tune your car like crazy and the sound of the car doesnt change very much??
Well id liek some exhaust tip and all the performance parts to make the car sound louder or a mean grunt more for the muscle cars and id like to see breather on the hood or a shaker
and you can buy part so you can chop your car down so it looks lower it would be amazing to have that !!
and as you tune your car more the price of it goes up!!! :) :sly:
I dont have any other ideas
