I wish thrustmaster would do better compatibility with consoles, I mean it's 2024 & we still can't plug handbrakes or other equipment directly into usb ports, it has to be plugged directly in the wheel base or you have to buy their hub.

Also why is there no app type thing available for consoles like the control center you get on PC I mean they have an app for their crap e-swap controller so why not Sim equipment so we can fine tune stuff instead of relying on in game settings.

As suspected - without t-dfb the T598 is a downgrade from T-GT. The information t-dfb gives on grip through vibration on whole rig is unmatched.

Im also starting to have suspisions, that PDI is nerfing Thrustmaster and Logitech in GT7 due to the Fanatec affiliation. This is why these official partnerships are bad for the community. I hope my T-GTs t-dfb doesn't just "happen" to stop working once they update the game..

Reading these reviews and comments I thought maybe i'll start with a used T-GT II but they are basically the same price as a new T598 and new they are over $1K CDN with worse pedals than the T598.

WIld stuff.

From the reviews online the T-GT II is by far the better wheel.

Right but it is 60% more than the price of the T598 and with the basic pedal set so need to improve that too. All I'd be at just $800 for the T598 and well over $1300 (CAD) for the GTII. I can't justify that big a price gap, I need to just hope they improve the software on the 598 on GT7.

If they will not improve T598 FFB with software, then its not worth it. TGT is far better. Played on both.
"worth it" I am sure but tbh i can only justify so much spend on this rig build before it gets silly for a video game.

I am faced with the following options for GT7 in $CAD basically;

  1. New T598 with decent pedals for $785 with 2 yrs warranty
  2. Fanatec 8nm with decent pedals for $800 used
  3. TGII with T3PA base pedals for $750 used or $900 for an open box unit with load cell pedals
  4. T300RS with TCLM Load cell) pedals for $450 used
Edit/Update: I think I am out on the T598, I spoke to a guy on a used marketplace and he went from TG-2 to T598 and returned the 598.

Still verdict "well its not a T-GT" - even with the DD Pro. If Thrustmaster would have gone with 8nm +t-dfb the story would be very different. So if your main game is GT or Playstation in general T-GT is your choice. There propably will be few on used market as T598 are more available to order, but I guess due to price T-GT never sold huge numbers, and thus the market is limited. Happy hunting..

If it wasn't for the cooling and many QC issues with the T300RS i'd lean towards starting there with load cell pedals and see how the DD markey matures but I keep reading horror stories on over heating and luck of the draw on QC.

But why not second, more expensive base like T818 for PS5? I would love to drive HyperCar wheel on T818 like base, on my PS5. Instead I went with Logi Pro…

And thats exactly what the t598 is all about. Its an upgrade for drivers coming from a g29, t150/t256/t300 and not for tgt2 owners. Especially not for tgt2 owners who are used to tdfb in gt7.
This is where it gets tricky though, I had a T150 and loathed it, could barely keep the car on the road. I tried a DD Fanatec at a car show and it was night and day. As you can see above I am on the fence about what direction to take, based on comments here I suspect the GTII is the better wheel/base right now but it feels like a dead end so to speak. If I had a GTII I would not change to a 598 BUT coming from a T150 it's another story.

My issue right now is that a brand new T598 is about the same price as a used and no warranty 8nm Fanatec. There's something about Thrustmaster that sort of irks me though, as in their entire ecosystem. It's pretty clear the price is fantastic for the 598 BUT the wheel itself leaves a lot to be desired, when I look at their website there's really no 300mm option (280mm just feels too damn small) I like other than maybe the hypercar wheel and that is very expensive. My gut preference is for the Fanatec ecosystem where the baseline CSL P1 wheel looks very similar to the excellent Logitech wheel.

Then we get to Fanatec, I am normally a "run the risk and buy used" guy but there does seem to be questions over reliability then there's the whole issue of the fastening of the wheel to the base. Can someone clarify this for me, is the QR2 a must for a fanatec set up or did QR1 solve the "it's sliding off the shaft" problem? It feels like Fanatec have the better ecosystem but i question reliability.

I actually wonder if the best play here is to buy one of the MANY, MANY new or near new G920 for sale for not much and combine it with a load cell pedals just to get started then move to the G PRO as more hit the used/near new market for the right price. It's a very hard unit to find on resale for PS5.

Surprised we did not get updates on this wheel/base yesterday with most people thinking it was no optimised for GT7 yet and the patch would fix this. Was it the case that it was running the best it can with GT7 already? Rory i dont think mentioned anything felt better.

New Firmware v2.07 Release notes:

== Bug Fix

• T-LCM Pedal set issue = now detected correctly without the dead zone issue on the accelerator

• FFB Settings save issue = MASTER setting level is now properly saved in FFB1, FFB2, FFB3

== Improvement

• Race Dash user interface update :

o New startup sequence

o Serial number information is now available on the screen

o Add INERTIA see setting (see FW: 2.07 New feature)

• Cancel oscillations in PlayStation menu

• Cancel oscillations in GT7’s menu and pause menu

== New feature

• New FFB adjustment = INERTIA setting (available under FFB menu from user interface)

This screen lets you adjust the wheel rim's inertia.

There are four settings to choose from, ranging from no inertia to high inertia (OFF, LOW, MID, HIGH), allowing for more or less steering control depending on the game you are playing and the vehicle you are using.

This motor setting increases the wheel rim's inertia proportionally to the vehicle's speed. The faster the vehicle goes, the more the inertia increases.

High inertia increases the force required to turn the wheel rim (the wheel rim then slows down), thereby limiting oscillations in a straight line when using very powerful vehicles.

Warning: The Inertia effect is only functional in games that support displaying the vehicle's speed on the base's screen.

The list of compatible games is available here: https://support.thrustmaster.com/product/T598p/. In the Games settings section, select List of games compatible with the T598 INERTIA option.
