If the wheel has a diameter of 30cm what's the diameter of the base?!
I thought the existing dd wheel bases were large, but this one looks xbox huge..
I'm concerned for anybody trying to fit that behind or under their monitor, if they have a full sim rig. This looks like it will work great for people just mounting to a desk.

I was checking the dimensions of this particular base and it is a big one in terms of height. This might not be a very manageable dimension when mounting.

Just for comparison in terms of height:
  • T248 ___________ 165.40mm
  • T300/tx _________ 178.11mm
  • T818 ____________180.00mm
  • TGT(II) __________193.40mm
  • T500 ____________199.00mm
  • TSPC/TSX ________207.40mm
  • T598 ____________213.00mm (the tallest)
As for Fanatec's bases height:
  • Podium DD1/DD2 ______ 155.00mm
  • Clubsport DD/DD+ _____ 163.50mm
  • CSL DD/GT DDpro ______163.50mm
Logitech's Gpro height is 200mm

I think it should be a consideration when is about to be mounted on a cockpit. Unless the user is used in driving with the steering wheel in his/her belly height or even if the screen is mounted very high.

If this one is so tall, a more powerful base will be enormous.......?

This thing needs shaft extension for proper monitor positioning.

With PSVR2 the height of the wheel, (the tallest at 320mm) won't be a problem. For those using screens it may cause an issue. Depending on the rig, and height of your screen. I predict more PSVR2 purchases to accompany this wheel.

Much more expensive Thrustmaster TGT2 which is £700 to the £450 new T598, does this equate to far less quality in the new kit?
There's less software trickery overall, no rumble speaker specific to GTS/GT7, the rim is simpler (a single push-button "encoder" that has 4 different modes versus 4 rotary encoders, and no joysticks versus two), and the pedal set has one less pedal (though it uses Hall-effect sensors rather than potentiometers). On the other hand, the screen on the base is new.

Ok, so I'm almost ready to pre order this wheel. I recently just had to exchange my Logitech G923 (under warranty) which is literally 1 week old I may sell it on as nearly new and just purchase this new thrustmaster master wheel regardless. Everything I've heard and read so far, sounds like it's a competent addition to the DD market. Maybe I'm being a bit hasty, without any proper reviews of the wheel? It's literally in the basket on thustmasters website. I just need to confirm the order. Any advice is welcome.

The price is crazy, the first DD in the console world at that threshold. Pc had Moza in that price range, bit for console it is a game changer (assuming quality is good, with Thrustmaster we can be optimistic).
Well, actually this is the first one for PlayStation, for Xbox there is already the MOZA R3 (with 3nm of Torque) in this price range.

30cm is larger than average and if the tech is as good as it sounds, 5nm may be enough for most people, especially if it can spike at twice as much or 150% for the more intense feedback.
Sounds pretty compelling, even more so if it's available at Best buy at that price. I wanna know how much just the base will be. Also will this new load cell brake be as good or better than the t-lcm's out of the box., I'm tempted to keep my t-gt wheel and buy a quick release adapter for it.

Small rim and only 5nm holding force.
- Size of the rim is 30cm

- T598 power: 5Nm of constant torque with an overshoot capability of +100% to vastly increase its power, and deliver super-boosted sensations. So it's mean above 10Nm for the overshoot capability.

- T598 DD technology: Direct Axial Drive

That looks like a bottom mount, which would be horrible. Side mount is imperative on a highly adjustable ergonomic pilot's throne, especially for us long legged ladies. We don't like our legs getting smashed up.

Looking at the manual there is still just one connection for shifter OR handbrake. A massive design oversight on console wheel unless that "feature available soon" -port solves the issue. Lets hope there will be an adapter suitable for the non-plus TSS to work with a shifter on PS5.

It is possible to see actual photos of this item and box on this website: https://superchicane.fr/thrustmaster-annonce-le-volant-t598-direct-axis-drive-pour-ps5-ps4-et-pc/

From the real photos, looks to me a lot less cheap looking and apparently the base casing is metal and the quick release is more rigid than the T818. Stock levels are meant to be low in Europe, it seems to have sold out in UK on day one. Kind of wish I pre-ordered now, might just wait and see if they offer a bundle with the load cell pedal included next year or even a more premium base and wheel. I wonder what they are planning for the unused port...
You just had to make a dad joke, eh? XD
Someone had to :D. In all seriousness though, this feels like a historic moment for sim racing as probably many centuries later, DAD wheels could still be the standard for this segment and this being the first one at an affordable price is a great way to start things off.

Well, for the price, compared to the Logitech GPro, I'm certainly leaning to this wheel for an upgrade from a G29. Will wait some before I jump however.
It is also like half the weight of that and the T-GT as a package. From early impressions in August, it seems excellent plus it being passively cooled should make it a lot quieter than something like the T-GT which had audible fans. Almost like having your cake and eating it too with the overshooting capabilities offered by this technology. It is the kind of the wheel I thought wheel manufacturers should make all along instead of them gear or belt-driven wheels. I can see this being the new wheel I get unless they make a better option or there is competition coming in this space from Logitech. Will be good to have a wheel again.
This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Thrustmaster Reveals T598 “Direct Axial Drive” Wheel

Thrustmaster has lifted the covers on its teased new direct drive wheel, now revealed as the “T598”, sporting a brand-new type of direct drive motor...
I noticed a typo, letter n is missing off soon at near the end of the article. Also did you mean to have a "-" instead of a space after 4/5?

I was wondering if GTPlanet already have a review unit, if the following could be tested? Would be much appreciated as a lot of reviewers don't mention these things.

Do pedals have the annoying deadzone on the initial few millimetres of travel on the brake and accelerator like the T3PA GT pedals that come with the T-GT? Also, how loud are the buttons and force feedback in operation?

I think the overshooting thing might be a red herring. No-one actually wants 10nm of torque out of a wheel - that would be 5 times more than a logi g920, way more than you want in your hands. However, a more powerful wheel turned down can offer more detailed feedback without clipping.

This running at 5nm or a 10nm wheel running at 5nm, the more powerful wheel should be much nicer. Time (and reviews) will tell
