Have said it before and will say it again: These TTs need to be once a week and not once every other week.
Can you expand on why every week? I’ve disagreed with that idea before and I’ll do it again. I think it’s too frequent because it’ll be a lot more risky losing streaks and missing out entirely if you’re not always at home with the possibility to play.
Heh, well thank you

So, I usually go out pretty late.
I tend to start doing a few laps om tuesday, figure out what car I want to use, or fgure out a setup if that is allowed, and see what time I get, or think I can get. Then I watch the top guys how they drive to see where I can improve. then do a few more laps until I feel confident in the car/track, and set a goal time I want to reach. Then I go for it on wednesday. Thing is, I more often than not find more time in the process, so my final time is usually faster than the target time I set for myself on tuesday.
All in all I'd say about 5 hours of testing, watching replays, and grinding for each TT. Sometimes more, sometimes less. :P

If you're looking for more stats regarding the general playerbase's performance in the TT's, I know @NAXEHT has a pretty neat spreadsheet for that. :)
That sheet I sent is courtesy of @half_sourly, it ain’t my work. ;)

I'm back from Time Trial Hiatus.

My feelings about this time trial:

We're driving a road car (which isn't a GT-R):

The track is Nurb GP...
E78nr3hX0AczNEg.jpg

The suffering in GT3s a while back helped me learn some lessons about Nurb GP.

1) Sector 1 is all just one big winding cursed hairpin that must be taken at an annoyingly constant throttle; change my mind. Should you go under or overshoot the 2-3% margin of throttle error, the track will punish you with 3+ seconds of penalties.

2) The braking points aren't at the distance boards, but in the liminal space/void between them.

3) Waiting to get on full throttle is like "Waiting for Godot."

4) I am convinced that PD deliberately set the power band of the Porsche to be obnoxious in 2nd and 3rd gear: You will learn to hold an exact, constant throttle indefinitely, and you will learn to love it!

I'm currently sitting at gold (not gold for long) with a 2:13.8xx. I can shave off perhaps another another 3 tenths before my soul collapses.

To keep my sanity, I'm going to run this in five lap sprint challenges. I play GT7 mostly like that, and that's usually how my fastest laps materialize.

2:11.581 with DualSense, currently in 24th

Despite being skeptical about this track, the car surprisingly is very balanced and understeer-ish which suits my liking. Loading a faster ghost with a 0.1 or 0.2s offset helped massively.

A low .5 might still be possible.

Whao, teach me how to use Dualsense the right way, Senpai

BTW, for the moment I settle with 2:13:547; I think gold is almost certain :D

I'm now into gold with 13:9x . I don't know if it will stay, but it's the first gold for me other than the last TT, which we all know about.
I'm very happy because I see improvement in my approach and results, and this is for sure coming from you, reading at this community posts and try to put them in my practice sections.

I'm posting here the video, which is also my first video ever, since I'm aged enough not to be that familiar with generating content. I'll be happy to get your comments if you're kind enough to spend couple of minutes with it.

This TT sucks. Cayman on SH handles like a whale. I don't get it. How is this supposed to be fun? Keiichi doesn't get it either and switches to softer tires.
When this car arrived in the DLC I made a post praising the beauty and the way to drive.
(See below the mileage of my two cars before this challenge)

It's almost 1,000 kilometers! So I'm very familiar with the car and I've managed to do a good lap time so far - 2:12.691

I think if you learn how the car handles and discover the track's little secrets, I think you'll enjoy this challenge. ;)

Something similar happened in Lago Maggiore, with people criticizing the car a lot. But I had already driven more than 1,000 kilometers in my New Z, and thought there was nothing wrong with the car.

Ugh, so this time no tuning involved. Well I'm not a noobie at Nurb. GP. But I want to explain some parts where I lose time.

Sector 1: That first sharp right turn is hard, trying to find a line where I can clip the apex and gain speed/time. Then I have to make 2 left turns and finally a right turn before the second sector(in CE).

Sector 2: Easy and simple.

Sector 3: The U-turn can be tricky cause depending on how fast I go is the outcome whether I run off track or stay on the track.

Sector 4: That last chicane before finish line messes me up b/c it's similar to the Monza chicane which gave me tons of penalties in TT's and daily races.

I'm at 2:18:003 in 4 laps. Sub 2:14 is going to be hard for me. I am not a fan of this car. Maybe it's because I've been running a lot of downforce cars lately but the turn in is soooo squishy feeling. Anyone have any tips?

How did you not get a penalty on that last S turn,i did that last night and got .5 penalty,:boggled:

How is it any different than the Daily Races? They're here for a week, then they switch. The individual Manu and Nations races are available for like six hours, then they expire.

Everyone is different, and I understand that. For me, I really enjoy doing the TTs and my goal is to get gold. I am not trying to set records, just get gold; whether that is by a full second or .001", it matters none to me. I really enjoyed this particular combo, but I got both my times [likely] safely within gold in like 40 mins. So there is no motivation for me to keep doing it just for the sake of trying to knock off some more tenths that will garner me nothing in return other than some bragging rights.

Heck, If I added up the time I spent on the last two TTs, it would probably total less than an hour... and that is for two accounts each. So about an hour worth of fun on the TTs over the period of a month. Hence why the cycle rate should be higher, IMO.

To me, and I am not trying to be disrespectful to anyone, I don't think the game needs to be timed/catered to those who may not be home to play it. They certainly don't for the Dailies, Manu, or Nations races; TTs shouldn't be any different.

That wouldn't change anything, it'd just be more work then.
Calling more content in a game more work is a bit extreme.

But weekly time trials is a bit extreme too when you look at the stats. If you're one of the few who golds most time trials in just a few laps, then you have the option to push for a good time and get more out of it, but I guess there's not much incentive to do so other than bragging rights.

I think the suggestion of two time trials overlapping is decent. Gives casuals a chance to try both, whilst providing more content for those who crave it. Ideally they should probably just have other events in game going on too though. For most people getting gold takes some effort, and I can see it getting tiresome if there are too many. I only did time trial when the x2019 at road Atlanta was on with the time I had for gaming in order to try to get gold, and I just couldn't be bothered doing much TT at the ring after it.

Here's the amount of people that have participated in different number of time trials.

I wanted to improve on my 2:13.7, just to be sure I would not miss out on gold so I got back on track. I made a few dumb errors at first, then did a few 2:13.5s in a row, and then, out of nowhere, I put together this

2:12.755, I think I'm safe

Honestly I think the fact that you are saying we should have less content for the simple fact that a select few have FOMO or losing a 'streak' is crazy!

Switched to manual tonight after getting used to the car and ran a 2:13.756. A low 13 is certainly possible, getting into the 12's may be more complicated. I'll watch the videos posted here to see where I can improve. I remember being able to abuse the crap out of the track limits last time here. I'm sure I will be able to pick some time up that way alone. :P

I like the idea of having concurrent TT's, each one starting and ending a week apart. I think it would be a happy medium for those that may get bored if they medal early and don't feel the need or want to run any more laps while still giving a chance for those who may be away for a week or so to have an opportunity to participate.

Well we could have Sport Laptime Challenge every 2 weeks and at the same time classic single player GT6 seasonal events style, with fixed gold, silver and bronze times.
Problem is that if the Laptime Challenge is really challenging, like Road Atlanta or the Nurb, it's really time consuming. Fixed times solved that problem.

If it’s a combo you really enjoy, why not push harder? While it’s certainly excellent that the TTs give credit rewards that’s not all they’re good for. The fundamental idea of a time trial is to push towards the limit and see how you can perform compared to the rest, the credits are just a nice bonus, albeit an absolutely great one. Don’t get me wrong, I like those and I like the medal stats in the profile, it’s cool stuff and must remain.

But if credits are all they’re good for according to some, why cater to these people? They have offline events to grind credits in if that’s what one’s after.

You never found yourself busy with work or studies or away on holiday?

See above.

Because it doesn't interest me. And, even if it did, two weeks is one too many to continue to do the same combo over and over and over just to knock off some hundredths. Get your best time in one week instead of two. Again, the TT is the only Sport mode thing in the game that goes for two weeks.

Offline grinding for credits boring. I don't grind for credits. I don't play sport mode for the credits (I mean, who does with those ridiculous payouts?). I don't do the TT for the credits, I do it to get the gold; if the credits were a fraction of what they are, I'd still push for gold. The credits are a nice bonus. Make the TT gold 1 mil and have twice as many. Regardless, I never mentioned payouts as part of my rebut for one week TTs.

Yes, I have. MP4/4 at Suzuka. I was within gold. But, when the King Aliens (Gallo & the like) started knocking the time down substantially towards the end, I was traveling for work. Didn't have a chance to better my time and missed gold by .050". I know I could've gotten it if I was home. It was the only silver I had gotten. Having two weeks didn't help me. Regardless, not the end of the world.

Exactly how I feel. I never thought I'd miss out on a gold, but I just ran out of time with Nordschleife.

However, that should remain my only silver unless PD comes up with something stupid yet again or unless I get stupidly busy.
