As things stand, it is (currently) possible to get gold in a different way for anyone who's struggling with this one.

Whether it'll stay good enough for gold still remains to be seen, but I managed to get about 1.5 tenths under the cutoff with a 1:14.482 last night by going completely counter to the advice above and cranking the TCS up to 5. From there I just worked on trying to get the line right with all the car's nervousness taken out of the equation. After about 200 miles worth of laps I'd had enough of feathering the throttle and found forcing the car to settle down saved more time than the TCS was costing me, along with making good laps much more consistent.

It won't be the best strategy if you're aiming for a top time, but if you feel like you've hit a wall and can't get faster like I was, it might be worth a try as an alternate approach.
i'll try TCS 0/1/5 for fun later

This car is going to take some getting used to after the MP4/4. They are about as different as it gets. No brakes, plows like a dump truck off throttle, then tries to kill you as you get on the gas. I ran a 1:15 something or another after 12 laps. Maybe half of those were clean laps? At least 3 more were clean enough I thought, but PD felt otherwise which leads me to my gripe of this challenge...

The penalties! I can handle taking a penalty in turn 10, even when my left side tires are solidly on the curb. Annoying, yes, but I can get used to it. What is blatantly unfair is where you take the penalty if you jack up the bus stop. There penalty line is all the way past the carousel, so that's where you should be forced to slow down, right? Oh yeah, you have to slow down there, but the sadists at PD have decided it happens the NEXT lap, not the current. So not only do you have the serve the penalty the following lap, but the current one gets invalidated, too. Just why?? Why two ruined laps when there is a full corner between where you pick up the penalty and the penalty line itself? Stupid.

/rant :grumpy:
I cannot accept the track limits on the final corner. I mean, there’s a bloody wall there. Why implement an arbitrary track limit based on a line? I’ve already had 3 low 14 laps ruined by this ridiculous penalty. :banghead: :irked:

Well, I've been asleep and woke up in GT heaven. After last week's TT with the McLaren & Daily Race 1 at this same circuit using the that 4WD beast GT-R, I'm playing my best GT7 life.

The Corvette at Watkin's is a total joy, I plugged away for 15 laps in my opening effort without checking the medal times. Gold time at that point was 1.14.99, and I emerged with a reasonable 1.14.4xx.

As much fun as time trialling is great fun, I find it a shame that the same thrill can't be translated into the daily lobbies with a field full of other human drivers.

I can already tell I won't be spending much time with this time trial. Much easier compared to Suzuka.

While the car handles like a jar of pickles, I got into the 1:13's after my first 150 kilometres. Currently 1:13.8, nearly a second clear of the current +3% time.

Here's a couple tips for you guys:
  1. Abuse those fat kerbs in T1.
  2. Don't try to be cool in the long sweeper after the chicane. Sliding will get you nowhere, so what I did was just coast until I approach the LED sign on the inside, and only then you think about getting the power down. @Blayney did pretty much the same thing.
  3. You have to countersteer sometime. And a healthy amount of countersteer is only good, as it's the means to get the car through the exit fast. And remember, only cause the amount of oversteer you absolutely need to get some turn-in.

And I've put up a very quick guide for gold on Watkins Glen for us mortals!

Apologies I am really not feeling great so it's not as long or indepth as previous ones!

I was stuck at 1:14.911...I beat my own lap 4 times, all in the 14.962-14.911 range.
I just watched the video once and I managed to improve my lap time by 0.197 on first try. Engaging 5th gear before the uphill chicane made a huge difference.
I'm quite close to gold (-0.087) thanks!

Ah that's fantastic news! Glad it helped in some way!

So I jumped on tonight, bought the ZR1, gave it a livery and removed that mad wing, then rocked on over to Watkins Glen for some laps. And, yep, I have to agree. The thing cannot brake. It doesn't like to turn. And it's a bit like driving a really fast couch...

I gave it a go anyway, and I'll need to have another go, but I managed a 1:15:8XX after about 30-odd km (and proceeded to get worse every lap after that) until I'd done enough for a disappointing 3-star roulette ticket...

I'll be back for more, probably tomorrow, definitely on Sunday.

Logging back on today, I see that yesterday's sliding-all-over-the-place fiasco was a mid 1:15. I was in automatic where it always put me in a gear which would attempt to kill me.

After watching @snc and @Blayney's replays, I decided to go back to manual again. Having stated that I've raced in automatic my entire gaming life, I hated the thought of switching. It may end up permanent, because it is a lot faster after getting used to it. First lap running higher gears where I wouldn't immediately get sideways upon acceleration was a 1:15.1. I dropped another 6 tenths throughout my session, sitting on a 1:14.597.

I didn't put up a fully clean, fast lap, so there is plenty of time to be gained. Either I would mess up mid-esses, or be up on my time only to blow the final turn. Not too far off gold...for now. I'm much more confident about it this time.

I spent an hour and a half to get 1:14.239 which probably won't be enough for gold and my best sectors only combine for less than 2 tenths more. I agree with the car drives bad and since I would have made more money faster doing the Tokyo race, I'm done for this event. It may not be possible but I wish there would just be a formula that calculates every 0.01% closer to the top time gets _ more credits. That would have saved me 45 minutes of grinding for 3 more tenths.

Tried doing it first in the single player time trial and got 1:18 on 1st lap and that was with quite a lot of effort.

I think I'm going to pass this one, so far the TTs are pretty draining for me. I do have a lot of video guides saved in case I decide to try. It is fun though, but really exhausting for myself lol
