Well, this isn't good! These TT events are brilliant at highlighting your weaknesses 🥺

I have enjoyed Deep Forest since GT1 and thought I knew the track well.
Managed to get four or five laps in yesterday (not been able to get on it for a few days) and didn't even manage a bronze - on one of my favourite tracks!!! Hope I get some time to change that today......

Masters of Time Trials, does any of you use some lap analysis software to check lap into details and maybe compare to some other lap? and in that case which one? has ony of you tried Delta or is curious to try it?

even show lap layout and racing line(s)

By the way, beware as the pricing model, as with so many things these days, appears to be subscription based. So you have to buy it, then buy it again next year, then...

Morning folks!

Ran a few laps between the trees this morning, and man I love this track, it has got it all and just flows nicely.

I managed a little improvement this morning glad i did...because some people here are a tenth faster then me every morning I boot up 🤣🤣...jeeezz

But what I don't understand this time....my lap felt like flying.... and i am at 0.70%.... and its not even top 100 in this early stage???
@half_sourly is it just me?, or do we have way more faster people this time at the top than Monza for example?

1000025535.jpg

S1 was a little better here, altho faster was a 1.07 but ended up at 1:22.245 🙈

Well what do you know, a quick lap of 96secs and I’m in line for a Mil. 👌
Well....a little more efford and it will be 2 mil. 🤪
Thanks! I don't know if the way I took turn 1 was the best, though. The larger radius is what kept my speed up. I likely would have been better off hugging the inside curb despite being at a lower speed. Not as much distance to travel.

Then again, different approaches can be taken with the same result. I think Tidgney mentioned in his guide that you can either stay up against the curb or go in a little deeper and straighten out the exit (commonly known as 'diamonding' the corner). I did neither.
I think the inside line is definitely faster than running wide, all the times I did run wide I could not get my S1 beneath 26.2 so I think you did lost a tenth there 😁
Rest of the lap was very smooth!

I always think Gr.4 Time Trials (Veyron Gr.4 @ Lemans, Scirocco Gr.4 @ Laguna Seca) are relatively easy to Gold, but VERY hard to be fast or in Top 100 with all the grip available.

Joining you guys at the low 1:33 club here @Gomario JSP @Dolph Drago @Homestead - not much left in the lap for me though so very much unlikely to improve unless I invest significant time into this. I also tried the wide line but I could never get the turn-in right as the car does not respond well to trial braking.

Kireth makes the point in his review video that seeing what someone else does is the easy part. The software won't teach you how to replicate it though.

Personally I will stick to watching replays. I usually get enough from watching a Tidgney or Kie video once or twice to get a decent time. For really difficult ones, such as the Olympic one at Deep Forest with its 1.5% gold threshold, or the snow one, I tend to break down sections and watch them repeatedly and at 0.25 speed, then quicker and quicker, to understand what the guys are doing. Of course videos also show line which the software doesn't.

I think your side by side video analysis would easily be more valuable than the software.

By the way, beware as the pricing model, as with so many things these days, appears to be subscription based. So you have to buy it, then buy it again next year, then...
Yeah, me too, replay's tell me alot, especially how I am studying and comparing side by side, frame by frame. 50€ yearly feels a bit pricy honestly especially when there are free alternative that do pretty much same job, as few people already pointed out here on TT thread. I was just curious to see if someone here have tested and improved and how much, so now I know pretty much nobody here is using them. Reading comments on social media" I got faster 1,5 seconds" don't tell me much honestly, if someone got 1,5 seconds I interpret as they were maybe P 50 000 and are now P20 000 , which is of course good improvement for those people but I assume it wasn't "I was P 250, got 1,5 seconds and now claimed P5" I doubt that.

It's always this compacted at the top when Gr. 4 is involved.
It seems that G44 is always compacted.
Although this one seems to be much more so.
My records are only for this year.

Place 1000 - Place 1 normalized to 2:00 lap time in seconds.
Average for all 41 time trials I have recorded this year: 2.37

Group 4 results:
Autopolis: 1.96
Laguna Seca: 1.97
Le Mans: 2.24
Deep Forest (in progress):1.61

For comparison, the most spread out using the same formula:
Monza VGT: 3.16
Suzuka VGT: 3.30
Nordschleife 911: 3.06
Road Atlanta X2019: 2.99
Trial Mountain Reverse: 3.01
Red Bull Ring Wet: 3.03
Spa RA272: 3.01

By my interpretation this is the second most compressed (after normalization)
following only the Chaparral on the Tri-Oval.

I am probably wrong though.

Ken

I agree with you guys. I frankly had a difficult time in the Autopolis Group challenge we had back a few months ago. I did over 200 laps in 10 different cars and nothing changed for me. Diddly-squat. This Deep Forest challenge is relatively easy because you only have one specific car instead of a variety of cars with different horsepower and other settings.

I bet money that I'm into the bronze stage now, I got a low silver time Thursday night. It wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. I love how this track is laid out, except that sharp left turn after you exit the last tunnel. I'm terrible at these types of challenges whether it's Group 1,2,3 or 4. Or even Group B rally cars. I will still try the motion sensor thing again at some point, at least it would make it easier for my thumbs to not press on the joystick so much.

Went for a run in the Evo this morning, didn't take long for gold but wasn't happy with missed apex's and then became determined to get in the 33's before calling it quits....

Very determined 😂

19 laps and only half an hour, that will do 😅

A few photos and some celebration fun

I've done a quick and dirty check and Deep Forest is at the tougher end of Gr.4 based on 'compaction'. Data under the spoiler shows number and percentage of drivers within 1% of number 1 for Gr.4 events (I think the Laguna car was Gr.3). It will be interesting to see where it ends up, particularly if it gets closer to the Sardegna one.

The gran-turismo site and my records show it as Scirocco Gr4. The difference with my data is I am normalizing the times. I only used data from this year, so some of your references don't align with mine. Thanks for your time.

Ken

I'm going to watch Tidgney's guide and see what lines and braking points he uses in Sectors 1 and 2. It's gonna take me a while to study every aspect and angle of the video. @P-Courty Wow, awesome achievement. I'm hoping to get it by the end of this year, :)

I gotta lot of work to do this week at Monza, I'm focusing on that one first. Happy lapping and enjoy your weekend guys. It's gonna be a busy lapping experience.

Hi guys (and Greek)

How is your saturday? Good? Good!

I'm less than 2 secs from WR, which is already an incredible score for the human I am.

There's still some tenths to gain, mostly in the 1st sector. I'll work on this in the coming hours/days.

No need to be brutal with this Lancer, a gentle drive can give an excellent final score.

The optimals point in a very (very) nice direction.... 😎

I thought you meant the most recent Laguna one; apologies. It so happens in my quick look I missed the Scirocco one (and the Le Mans one - like I said, quick and dirty!). Here is the data with those two now included, making Deep Forest even more on the difficult end. I know our methods are different, but broadly we both confirm the hypothesis that Deep Forest is more compacted at the top than most Gr.4 events.

At Monza, if you're using Tidgney's guide I recommend the following:

  • load his ghost at 0.3sec ahead with reset at each sector
  • have his guide on your phone/computer next you
  • watch the guide for turn 1 and then pause it after he pulls away from the corner
  • now you replicate that corner in game following his ghost and then pause as you pull away from the corner

Repeat this for each turn so you are watching his guide for the next turn and pausing it then you replicate that in game and pause the game after each corner.

Keep doing this for the whole of the first lap.

Then after you complete lap one, pause your game and watch his whole lap guide in one go, then head into your second lap.

You'll get there 👍🏻

Ok, I will write down these notes or screenshot your post as a guide, thank you for the advice this morning. I can even copy and paste what you typed and send it to my e-mail in a draft. Enjoy your lapping weekend.

Im glad there are still people left in the world who enjoy stock street cars TTs 😅 its very underrated and has to be the trend in the future! Modern race cars are trash imo, its just brake here, release here, release this much, turn here, turn this much, accelerate here, etc. yuckk 🤮..... whereas powerful stock production cars = brake here, send it, feel it, control it, equilibrium it, now that is yummy 😍😂. You mostly cant take an exact corner exactly the same way everytime.
This post has been living rent-free in my head during the latest TT. While I'm happy for the relatively easy gold (current PB at 1:34.269) I feel like I learned nothing from this event besides some track knowledge. The Lancer just drives on rails and on a controller most of the corners can be taken at max. lock only adjusting the throttle. For me, the enjoyment of these events mostly boils down to the satisfaction from personal improvement and there wasn't much to be had at Deep Forest.

But on a general note I'm happy of my progress as I have finally shifted into using manual transmission and managed to gold both Bathurst and Suzuka despite still learning how to manage the gear changes. The sense of added control of the car is just amazing and has added a whole new layer to the driving experience. :)

Well new test today at Deep Forest and improvement in my time, but not enough to scare the aliens, from 1'33'765 I went down to 1'33'754. Impossible today to approach 1'33'8xx !!!!
So I'm going to stop for today and tomorrow because my approach to turns is no longer very good. But I will come back on Monday with the hope of improving this time a little more significantly. Have a good weekend everyone. Take care of yourself and above all good drive and enjoy :cheers:

Hi,

Well you lot have been busy! Blimey O'Reilly!

The time at Deep Forest has had a full 2/10ths shaved in the last 24 hours.

Just finished a, really really enjoyable, session at Deep Forest. Started well and finished with a 1:34:5xx. Very pleased with that!

I think it was 330_D that mentioned a while back about learning the subtleties of this game. I am really starting to get to grips with these now, I think.... Over the last few weeks I have been starting a session with several aids on, then reducing the level of "assistance" to zero. TC is set to 0. ABS is now on weak and Active stability has also been switched off. This has made me much much quicker, having taken a full second off my time today alone. While I know and accept that this time trial is quite an easy one, its a whole bucket full of fun!

Another session tomorrow and if I can get into the 1:33:xxx area, then I will indeed be a happy bunny. It won't make me an alien but it might make me feel a little bit stranger than normal! 😳

Best regards to all here.

Ian.
