Interesting, i'd not tried trail braking yet, well just a little on the infield right hander at Interlagos. So what's the play now, hard on the brakes, release and coast through the corner, more of a squaring up of the corner?Used to be (and in most sims still is) that you could brake a bit later and bleed off the brake through the corner. In the current physics (and I believe the 3rd physics revision?) doing that just means the car doesn't turn. Doesn't matter how much brake input, it's just like a hard limit to how much the car will let you turn in.
I play a lot of iRacing, and with GT7 1.49 onwards had a very similar braking philosophy - in iRacing you want to be braking at about 80% and dragging it off, which transferred near 1:1 to GT7 with the last physics and meant I could swap between the two seamlessly. Try and do that now and you just slowly drift off track like a sad penguin.
