The cars are very different now and the previous cars weren't very equal. For example the Lexus being 2 seconds off the pace and the Honda having no front tyres after half the race.

From practice i personally haven't seen anything from you to make me think that you are better than akmuq. You may prove me wrong but if you both do your talking on the track you'll surely benefit. I understand that you need to both have self belief but putting that on other people will not make them worried about your abilities.

On a serious note, it enables you to change gears yourself, and be more precise than an automatic that only ever changes at the redline.

I'm kinda disappointed with the fact that GT5 has apparently disabled the 'R2 trick' entirely, which I used all the time in GT3 and GT4 to switch after redline with automatic transmission. The reason why I hate using manual is that I always mess up the gears under braking.

You can downshift faster and gain more acceleration coming out of a turn.

It lets you pick a different gear for the start, which is sometimes good, you can also run longer in the same gear on the straights for a couple of more MPH, but most importantly gives you more control through the turns and with wheelspin.

For example, at Autumn Ring, at the first few chicanes, it's impossible to match the times you can get from running manual through there.

Also helps under braking, as shifting down early will slow you're car down more, but in real life, it will mess up you're engine.

I used that trick with GT4 as well because I had the same problem, after a couple of hours with manual shifting on a wheel, you can do it easily on a controller.
