Tokyo World Tour 5 2019

Man, you can tell the relative popularity of these guys by everyone ignoring Carazza slumped in his chair. Lopez is hardly gonna be popular either with that block party on the hard tires.

Some really dirty defending from Lopez and Carrazza.

Cody got a bit too greedy there - could have won the thing if he played it a bit cooler.

Miyazono and Cody could have been right there if not for their battling and getting stuck behind Lopez who decided to move on the brakes into the Porsche curves for some reason

Called it! picked Kokubun in the YT chat before it started. Was watching during a league race and I disconnected just before the finish of the final race. That was a phenomenal race!

Ah okay. I was seeing "the event" as all the races combined.

No problem, with ShiftingGears' post it's harsh to lump in today's drivers with events in Supra and Manufacturers that most of them weren't even involved in and where, by the nature of those picked, the standards are a little lower. Side note, I missed the final Supra race and Bathurst in Manufacturers, but from what I saw the stewards decisions seemed to be better and more just for any crimes committed than at previous tours. Or was that just me?

I cant fault these world tour events for pure entertainment value but honestly the standard of race craft from too many players is terrible!!

Some of the lunges, defending, swerving across the track, missed braking points and bump passes was embarrassing considering these guys are the cream of the crop.

However as I said I enjoyed watching it but as an advert for virtual racing merging with real racing it was a joke because frankly at least half those guys would be dead or in hospital if that was real.

Does every driver cut the pit lane entry in Sarthe or is it just Carrazza?
That is stupid, it's already a thing not bothering with exit pit lane lines but the entry at least...

Grats for Kokubun, very happy for him!!

I agree, the stewarding was, for the most part, pretty good and consistent. There will be some decisions that some will disagree with, but that's part of motorsports. I just felt that the standard of driving was pretty poor. Unfortunately the poor driving will always overshadow the good driving, but I was genuinely surprised by some of what went on.

I guess that's part of motorsports too though!

HONG KONG IS NOT CHINA. These commentators are garbage...

Thanks for this delightful comment. The reason it’s referred to as ‘Hong Kong, China’ is for political reasons within Sony - the same reason Taiwanese driver Ben Chou has the Olympic flag next to his name. Might I suggest that if you think the English commentary is ‘garbage’, watching one of the streams in the other six languages instead.

It's highly insensitive to the current political climate in Hong Kong at best and a blatant pro-Chinese endorsement at worst. I am disappointed that you both went out of your way to include China whenever you referred to Hong Kong and would not have agreed to do the same myself, even if it cost me the commentary position.

I disagree. Referring to HK in this way does not reflect my personal views in any way, shape, or form and at no point have I done so within a broadcast - I am merely following instructions given by my employers, and as this is a motorsport championship that I enjoy being a part of, I’m not going to turn it into a political argument.

Enjoy your day!

While the name is little clunky, the fact is that since Hong Kong reverted to Chinese rule in 1997, Hong Kong has indeed been part of China.

Officially, Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China. That is it's part of China but has special conditions that allow for more autonomy. Hong Kong has its own government, law, police, customs territory, schools and so on. However the military and external defence is that of China, and China garrisons its army in both Hong Kong and Macau - another SAR - and they are not permitted to interfere with internal affairs.

The proper name of Hong Kong in international sporting competitions is "Hong Kong, China" and has been since 1997. It doesn't reflect the current events in Hong Kong - where the PRC army does indeed seem to be interfering with internal affairs - in the slightest, and it doesn't suggest any compliance in Chinese propaganda from Sony or either @Tom or @Jimmy B.

Back to the actual racing please. Feel free to continue discussing the other matters in the O&CE forum.

He's gone in early doors there with a comment that's a bridge too far.

MEGA post. Enjoyed the english commentary.

The only think that grates a bit is the pronunciation of the japanese. Names in particular.

Back to the racing, the Nations final had some shocking racing in it at the end. Really awful. This is starting to become the norm.

Appreciate the feedback re: commentary, I’ll make a note to check everything over before Monaco.

Regarding the racing, I’m sure the team will be looking into solutions for the future.

As someone who support the whole HK protest situation i am going to say to ignore Jay.

Nobody talked about the whole thing last world tour and we had 2 players from HK, people are just taking advantage to be negative.

So yeah i do understand it was done for obvious political reasons and people should have noticed it from Taiwan's flag as well like years.

Edit: good commentary overall, i don't know if you should overuse Mega, it was getting hysterical hilarious but both you and Jimmy need some water after those intense racing moments

I really enjoyed your commentary with Jimmy especially in that Nations Cup Final race around La Sarthe. The whole political stuff (I am aware of what's going on but really I just didn't care that much to be honest) didn't really matter to me as your commentary was more important than that.

Great job and looking forward to seeing more of your commentary with Jimmy in the future.
