I have yet to get 1st in the lotus top gear challenge, I have gotten 2nd 12 times, and I was .1 or so seconds from first quite a few times, I know I'll nail it, I keep screwing up on the 2nd lap. For those having problems, I have the first lap down to a science.

Lap 1 - first corner you should be able to overtake 1 car, push a little bit and by the next corner you should be on the left side and be able to overtake 2 dive in and overtake 2-3 more, if you do that you should be in 8th place (I've managed to be in 7th 1-2x on that part, which is really hard to get, 8th is fine) after that you'll need to draft the 8th place car and wait a little down the straight, merge over to the left again and pass 1-2 more, and then you should be behind the green car, which will be the 6th place car, (you'll currently be in 7th place) after that, if you can manage to get in front of the green car before/during bentley you should be able to swing past it and late brake before you hit bacharach (which will put you in 5th) push really hard and pass the blue car before gambon and you'll be in 4th.

Lap 2 - If you didn't manage to push past the 5th place car you should still be ok (I've managed to not get it and still get nose to nose with first place)
by the first corner you have to try really hard but you normally can't get past the 3rd place car here, continue on and by the 2nd corner push like you did before and pass the 4th place car into 3rd place. continue drafting what you can and merge to the right again and late brake, you should be able to overtake the light blue and be RIGHT behind the yellow and be in (3rd place) at this stage. now this is normally the deal breaker for me here, if you can manage to nab 3rd place here great. keep going and when you hit the follow-through I've been in both 2nd and 3rd here, if you are in either place you'll be ok, keep pressing clip bentley close and push really hard late braking past the 2nd place car (and dive in) keep pressing and you should be neck in neck with the red first place car before you have to turn into gambon, try to overtake it on the corner and try to hit first before the line.

My problem is, it's either that close, or I do manage to get 2nd place by the follow-through and end up messing up turning into gambon, those are the times where first would of been really easy. but yeah that's all the advice I have on that.I know I can get first, it just takes a lot of self discipline.

Anyone has unlocked the track yet? I got silver in the VW bus and the Elise challange, and gold in the wierd gkjrfvjnWagen thingy(which was alot of fun, by the way), but the track is still locked. Strange, because it took only to complete the first AMG challange in silver to unlock the Nordschlife.

Is it me or did they take a potentially AWESOME idea and ruin it? TGTT would have be so much more of a track if they treated it like it is in real life. No flying laps, and no restrictions. Open runway to DRIVE and TEST our cars.

THIS x1,000,000 Remember the idea of a "stunt course"? Push back the invisible barriers, open the entire runway and grass areas and there's your stunt area! It would have been amazing! So sad they really seemed to have wasted this license & track. :grumpy:

I've been saying this from the beginning. It's a test track, let us test cars on it! There's a perfectly good straight there and half of it is cut off.

It's still kinda fun to mess about on regardless, but the runway could have been twice as entertaining.

I unlocked the Advanced Event and after I did it got the Top Gear Trophy. Got Silver quite easily in the race. I find it the best and funniest of the 3 especially as 7th is taken out by the first car coming through the followthrough in the other direction. Haven't worked out out how to gold it yet.

👍 The funniest test so far, and the easiest of the three tests. I got gold on my first try. Is all about luck. Just keep trying. I actually got it because the first guy got tangled in the cones after hitting the other cars, and there was a complete mess in the last lap. When I realized I was in first place, I could´nt believe it. Now, the Elise test, that´s a different story...

I now have 2/3 Golds in these events. I finished the Kubelwagan one in 1st. :) But as you say the Elise is a different story, i've only managed a bronze on this.

Assuming you're in 7th after Chicago, you can fly around the Hammerhead on the inside line and bounce off the 4th guy into his position right there. Bacharach overtake 3rd place, Gambon overtake 2nd place. Then you've got the entire second lap to beat one guy, which is stupidly easy.

I did the Samba bus one I think within about three attempts, with ABS 1 as the only aid. I found it quite easy but boring. However the challenge with the Elise was a lot harder. I tell you guys how I did it.

Managed to gold the Samba buses but the Elise test is frustrating as hell. Even with TC at 10 and ASM on I just can't get higher than about 8th. With them down/off I silde all over the shop.

I think I spent a total of an hour on it. I tried to do it with only ABS 1 aid, which I had used to do every challenge and license so far. I did this for over 40 minutes but found it hard to go consistently fast through the follow through. I think I managed 2nd or 3rd with this setting at best. I tried TC and ASM but they made the car worse to drive fast. Then I decided to "Cheat" and use the Skid Recovery Force, with TCS 0, ABS 1 and ASM off. I was suprised by the extra grip and managed to do it on my first attempt with the SRF. So if anyone is struggling, and wasting a lot of time on it then do what I did. TCS 0 and ASM off is a must as well. I'm using the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel so if you are using a pad TCS 1 with SRF on may be a bit better.

A few tips if not known already. The darker and smaller red cones invalidate your race. However the larger orange ones don't so make use of the extra width to pass cars on the outside (Two cones) just before Chicago corner in the braking zone. For anyone still trying good luck.

For those unscrupulous players getting a pissed off at the Top Gear test track special event here's a little cheat I discovered: 💡

Going into turn one, instead of following the pack make a tight left just after the painted red and white lines taking what would be the follow through later in the lap and cut ahead of the latter half of the pack, if you do it correctly you'll easily get up to 8th place or even 7th if you're lucky and without the risk of getting disqualified for bumping! Do it again on the 2nd lap for an extra few places and you can easily put together a 2nd place finish overall. :sly: I tried this hoping you could just cut back around to the finish line leapfrogging the competition altogether but no such luck since you don't trip the timers throughout the different sectors of the track.

Oh my god after a gazillion tries I finally bronzed the Elise challenge last night. And the good news is: I feel I can probably silver or even gold it now if I keep trying. At some point it just 'clicks' and all you gotta do is keep going. I was about to give up on it when all of a sudden I felt I can do this. Funny how that works.

I really do wish there was a 'Beat the Stig' challenge. I mean how cool would it be to race the track in the same cars the Stig has used on the show and try to beat his time?

What were they thinking???

Does anyone else find it a bit annoying that you cant actually simulate the Top Gear show by starting the track from a dead stop ?

I hate these "rolling starts", especially for the Top Gear test track. Is there any way that this can be changed in a setting somewhere ?

Advanced seemed way too easy, especialy after the hell that was the Elise challenge. Golded 1st time.
I found it the easiest. I got 3rd on on my 3rd go and then got 2nd the next after another race or or 2 I got 1st.

It was the quickest one I've done anyway.

I can't keep up with all the threads but is it possible to unlock the 'wet' Top Gear track that you drive on in the license tests?

I want to race on top gear track without all those cones....
top gear track will be 10 times better if:
1.we can run on ALL track (with that straight line to test cars top speed)
2.we can eliminate all those cones
3.time/wheather change

unfortunately not. Flick back through this thread, this has been discussed in depth.

But yeah, the whole thing is pointless without the Top Gear standing start/leaderboard formula

Once I figured ou thet th e Lotus only need a fraction of brake pressure that other cars need, It was much easier to handle. Going full brake or even over half will send the back end around.,

I got only bronze in the samba bus thing (beginner) and the track wasnt unlocked>? what do i need to do to just unlock it? someone PM me for the love of god!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

I just golded the samba bu and kubelwagen, but the elise one is hella rigged! I drive so cleanly until the dumb AI hits me from behind and spins me out! Quite annoying I must say..

Didn't the interview with TG say that they used Andy something (director)footage and replicated the replay angles exactly like the real thing.Which was evident in the E3 trailer. What game were they playing :grumpy:

The thing have to remember is that you can make contact with other cars on the TG tests, even quite firm contact and leaning against others, just don't rear end the other cars. Also, try to overtake on the right hand side going into the hammerhead, cutting tight against the solid orange cones.

It's a pain in the arse but finish first (GOLD) in the samba bus challenge and you'll unlock the track for use in practice and arcade modes!... it's worth the effort:)

I've got them all golded now, there are some good guides on Youtube on the lines to take and whatnot,

When I got gold on the Elise challenge, coming into turn one I kept wide and drifted it round, past 2 cars, looked amazing on the replay and very quick too!

It's amazing what watching a youtube clip can do.. I spun out in the first corner like 100 times.. Watched a gold clip and got it on 2nd try lol. First try i was 2nd in the last corner but got rammed of the track.

I only wish they'd make a boundless version so i can go around and feel like jeremy or captain slow or our suicidal rocket car man XD i want at least one level where i can just screw around without any friggin lap times and such..
