I managed to get gold with the van, but that Elise is a PITA. The best I managed so far is 5th... What if people can't get gold in it, does that mean they can't get the TG track? If thats the case, that was a horrible decision, because both of those events are horses**t...

I'm no lotus driver but surely they don't get shipped with ice tyres as standard? are they being "clipped" performance wise cos in real life they grip like go karts and would win over honda in class?

Bugs me, my mate took me out in his 96 elise and it was rivetted to the road, knocked my head against side windows without so much as a squeal.

Anyone got experience of a 111r in real life? surely the power difference doesn't make it a killer?

WTH are you talking about? Can't you drive at all?
If you can't, then maybe you should use driving aids. 👍

Well, I don't know what kind of a expert drive you are, but my driving is usually more than adequate for the challenges. 👍 I'm not the only one saying the Lotus event is difficult, so you don't have to come out swinging like a jackass. Relax.

The problem with the Lotus race is that they give you Comfort Hard tires. Since when does a Lotus come with those? Maybe Sport Hard, or Comfort Soft, but not the worst of the bunch.

And even with the worst of the bunch it wouldn't be like driving on an ice rink. Unless of course those few more hp over the 96 make it a killer, my mates elise had bog standard quick fit sh** on and it mashed my head :)

don't attack someone like that not cool...anyway, I got 5th with the lotus...That car is a trip

He was using bad language, that made me mad. I sorry.

The car is fitted with these tires on purpose. It's a challenge.
Just use slipstream on straights and brake late. And be gentle on the throttle.
That's weird, that people find this race hard. And I am no pro.

Man #$@% this lotus challenge. Seriously the best I can do is 3rd place and the first place car is like 3 seconds ahead of me. Anyone got a reply of themselves getting first?

And that is without mentioning that lotus played a big part in track design, why would they make a track their cars would struggle at? does not make sense. Please, someone make sense of it all... :D

I thought it might be a little more tough to beat the Stig's times. Just did a 1:17.679 with a Nissan GT-R with cold tires and a standing start. The Stig did it in 1:19.1.
I don't know if this is a 👍 moment or a 👎 moment, honestly.

Don't get me wrong i love a challenge but I don't think this car (111r) is being fairly represented.
Aye! I've got gold on all the other special events I've done, but this one is just ridiculous. I flat out refuse to believe that these cars drive like that, even on pretty crap tires. If my own (real life) car was anything like that, I'd be too scared to drive it... :scared:

I Know it's a major cheat but put all assists to full, and TC to 7 and it's pretty easy. I did it 7th time

edit: No, it's not easy but it's driveable and driftable which is nice.

Well, heres the thing, the Stig is IRL, where the consequences are much more to both machine and... well, machine. We get to throw them round and reset. Jeremy did a thing on it with GT4, an NSX, and Laguna Seca -

Normal street tires are supposed to be more progressive than racing tires, not less. The car behavior in that challenge is ridiculous; the car feels unsettled even accelerating in a straight line. And turning while accelerating? Grip-grip-grip-grip-grip-SPIN

Im not too sure whats happening, So, We have to get all gold on all 3 events to unlock the test track? If so that really sucks considering the last one unlocks somewhere at 24(?)

Or is it just the first 2?

Do you have to do the same for nurburgring?

a respected member of the forza motorsport forums (read: not just a fanboy) who has owned a ferrari F355 and currently owns a BMW M6 claims that all the elises he's driven are not nearly that slidey. I think it has to do with a combination of the comfort hard tires on the car in-game and a small glitch in the car's physics.

Just the first one. Gold the VW bus challenge and it will unlock.

I did it, took a while. I kept being taken out of the race by bad AI.

In the start, late brake to the left or right on the first turn to the left. You should overtake 1 car, maybe two if you're lucky. Right after they will slow down and bunch again, I take 4 cars here by squeezing between. When you're doing the big U-Turn, you need to be in 7/8th place or you have no shot to win. After the U-Turn you will bit a slight straight, stay to the RIGHT by the grass. Make sure to late bake, and take 3-4 places. You should be in 3rd or 4th place at worst here. Now you'll be at the high speed areas, and before you get to lap 2, you NEED to be in 2nd or 3rd place. If you're not, restart. This isn't an easy one, but very doable.

Also, ABS didn't help me. Do they let you turn on that skid force thing? If yes, use it. Good for noobier players. The Lotus has a lot of kick in the back wheels, should help stay straight. Other than this option, I don't think the others help that much. Course traction control will be helpful to the back wheels getting away from you, but I didn't use anything but "ABS 1". I believe that "Skid" control in options is like a wild TCS. If you can use it in this race, again, I would suggest you do it unless you're like me. Stubborn and willing to do this race 50 times.. When I learned how to pass them, I would always be in a battle for first. But man, that guy takes me out. Hate the rail riding into you in challenges. They shouldn't have a set path that much.
I'm getting closer. I did follow yours but I did one just now where I late brake into the 1st corner but didn't overtake him, then when he braked for Chicago I went past him and the van in front heading out the corner in 8th/9th then into the hammerhead about 7th and as I went to take 5th on Gambon I took too much grass and failed.

I did this for like 2 hours, over and over with the lotus. Could just never get the gold. Turned on the Skid Control and got it first go.

What times are people doing without it? Im doing like a 1:30 on my first lap.. though as soon as i turned skid on i got like a 1:26 or sumtin

This test was not fair. Clarkson had put R3 tires on NSX in GT4 and had S1 or S2 in real life. At least 7-10 seconds of the difference was due to this. The rest was due to the fear for one's life that Jeremy should have, especially in Laguna Seca...

I would like to see Jeremy give it a go again, this time with a good rig setup instead of a controller.

After mass anger and frustration I'm pleased to say I have now unlocked the track. My first lap was in a ko-cart and did a 1:35 on the second lap. I literally smacked the side of the van in 1st at Gambon and went across the line. I had managed to reach 2nd earlier

Same here, using the dual shock I had to turn the ABS up and the skid control on. You have to clear the first car in T1, the next 3 between Chicago and the tire barrier. You need to be clear of 5th place coming off the tire barrier onto the "back stretch" or he will slam you when he dips the wheel off.

Very frustrating that the AI slams and brake checks you.

But it's the most fun I've had in a while with a game. 👍

I'm at level 14, silvered both Top Gear Events. To unlock the course, is this through reaching level 15 or golding the events?. In the AMG Driving Academy I silvered all the events & unlocked Nürburgring courses, strange that you would have to gold to get the Top Gear Track.

Just get gold on the first TG Event in the VW Van and you unlock it.

The Advanced TG Challenge is easy, too, tbh. Worth over 100K and its a LOT easier than the Lotus.
