My VW Golf IV GTI RM Project. @ Tsukuba on Racing Hard Slicks

Lap Times

Each test has ran a maximum of 12 laps.

0:59.130 (My Settings Test 2) (310BHP@498pp)
Fasted on 10th lap, overtook RKM's Ghost on 5th lap with 0:59.357. 10/12 0:59's. Getting close to the 0:58 mark now, I reckon with some more tuning I will get it easily. A few things I noticed on my car that need addressing are, 3rd and 4th gear are a little short. I'm having to change up gear then quickly back down just before the hairpins. I also think the car is a bit unstable, hopefully try sort that out too. Overall progress is going good though.

0:59.406 (My Settings Test 1) (312BHP@500pp)
Fastest on 10th lap and was running consistent 0:59's. I've been doing the tuning online and I felt it handled better there. So far so good, now i've set my goal to break the 0:59 mark. I've improved the settings to suit my driving style, also I think my car has less understeer coming out of the final corner than RKM's. So far I haven't been able to correct the jumpy acceleration out of the two hairpins, I dont know whether its impossible to correct but i'ma do my best try as I want the smoothest ride possible.

0:59.504 (RKM Motorsports Test 1) (312BHP@500pp)
Fastest on the 11th lap but was running consistent 0:59's. I found the suspension a bit to hard, on some of the bumpy parts of the track the car wouldn't accelerate properly. The transmission too isn't optimized for this track, other than that a good solid tune also I can't recall seeing the tires go red or smoke either so that's a good thing.

0:59.544 (RKM Motorsports Test 2) (314BHP@501pp)
Fastest on 3rd lap and again running consistent 0:59's, I think I got 8/12 0:59's. I came off track because I was trying my hardest to beat the lap time, got so close on the 10th and 11th lap but messed up. After driving a couple of the other tunes, I could straight away feel the difference in this car, it brought something alive inside me telling me go go go, I didn't want to give up, I could drive that car a whole lot more if I wanted to. And ill say it again the front tires didn't break traction even though I was going full throttle out of the corners in 2nd. A very good tune, but I'm determined to beat it :).

0:59.577 (Zed Tunes Test 2)(6 laps Only) (317BHP@499pp)
Fastest on 2nd lap. I thought this would be the top car so far but I was wrong. It was hard for me to set a sub 1 minute lap time only making one 0:59 out of the 6 laps. The car felt to loose and didnt turn-in very well, the braking was a bit dull. The setup worked much better at 416pp.

0:59.600 (JG's Tune Shop Test 1)(321BHP@509pp)
When dialing it the settings I noticed that I didn't have the Exhaust Manifold installed, so I added that and it brought it up to 321bhp. I was fasted on the 8th lap and on the 1st lap I was only a 10th of a second slower. For some reason this car felt heavier than the rest and I found it hard to stick to a decent driving line. The last long corner on Tsukuba was the worst for me in this car, I was always running wide and could only take the corner at 81-82mph where as the other tunes I could take it at 86mph. I think what is wrong here is how tight the Front Anti-roll bars are, maybe if he switched them round with the rear he could get better results. I also think if he had less downforce on the rear it would help reduce understeer. The transmission also wasn't optimized for Tsukuba I didn't use 5th gear once.

0:59.719 (Stock Settings) (312BHP@497pp)
Fasted on 8th lap although I got a quick time sooner than RKM's I was mostly running 1:00's. and found it hard to keep up with the ghost. This car felt more comfortable but still jumpy when accelerating over the bumpy parts. This car seem to go wide, and it was hard for me to stick to my driving line.

1:03.463 (Zed Tunes Test 1)(6 laps Only)(167BHP@416pp)
I had to use the Power Limiter to get it to the correct BHP level. Fasted on the 4th lap. So far this is the best handling car out of them all. It does exactly what you tell it to. I can't really name any ways to improve it sorry :). I've only ran 6 laps because I'm going to de-restrict the engine and put it to the test. 6 laps left I reckon this could set the new fasted lap.

REVIEW OF THE BMW M3 GTR TUNED BY J'S TUNING GARAGE:

I think I might have used this tuning garage a couple times a long time ago but I can't remember if I did or not, but anyways on to the review!

I had this BMW before but decided to fully upgrade it and put it on racing soft tires which was a bit of a dumb idea considering how much more fun this car is without all the juiced up parts, sticky tires, and your tuning setup. I did not get a chance to drive this car before your setup besides when it was fully upgraded and what not like I mentioned earlier but I still think I have a pretty accurate idea of how much the new setup effected the car. The car struck a perfect balance of understeer and oversteer to me because the car can hold it's line just fine if you don't completely nail it but if you do you get a tad bit of controllable oversteer which gives it that good FR feel without the two being completely uncontrollable. Before the new setup the BMW would get unstable when braking through a corner and at high speeds but now it's a lot better with hardly no wobble. All in all this car is bound to be a complete monster in the 500PP races because when stock it's just over 500PP which makes it's a great candidate for those races! Edit: This car IS a confirmed monster in it's 500PP range, I just got finished beating an NSX(s), Mustang(s), S2000(s), Toyota FT-HS Concept(s), '69 Camaro(s), and more online!

I plan to use/review more of your PP based tunes in the near future considering the BMW was an awesome setup! Please don't take offense, but I think your tuning garage deserves more attention because I don't see much feedback but a lot of tunes! 👍

P.S.
I used the BMW M3 GTR with sport soft tires while driving the car for this review even though J told me not to. :D

Just a word of advice for the Golf GTI RM, RKM aren't the only people who made one. C-ZETA did one, as did JG. So if I were you, I'd widen your horizons a bit and try to pit your tune against a few more tuner's.

I will do thanks, i'll probably do 3 tests with each of the other tuners car and stock settings aswell. I only used RKM's setup because it was on the car to start with. :)

Thanks for the great review. The majority of the cars I have are used for online pp limited racing, some do better than others. One I would recommend would be the 550pp Nissan 350z and if you like the lower pp classes the 450pp Civic will dominate at Deep Forest Raceway.
I don't see much feedback but a lot of tunes!
I know lol. Oh well, i'm sure more will appear eventually. Getting reviews is just a bonus.

Yeah, i'm eager to try both the Honda Civic Type R (EP) '04 and the Audi RS6 '02.

If you take the Civic to Deep Forest Raceway I guarantee you will win races. I do enjoy the Audi RS6 too. The engine note off it is one of the best I've heard. Let me know what you think of the Audi as I used a different style of tuning on that so i'm curious to see what you think. Thanks

I'll do a review of both of them once they decided to appear in the UCD.

Have to say I really like the EP 04 Civic Type R tune, I was planning to do a review of it however I've just realised I'm using it on the EU EP 01 Type R!!

I'm not sure if it would be that different as I don't have the 04 but it works very well for me.

Good work Jack

If it works very well then no worries

Any cars you would like to see in future?

Ok mate thanks, looking forward to it, if any of them pop up in my UCD ill let you know.

Yeah please let me know if any come up in your UCD because I've refreshed mine around 10 times and I still haven't seen either car man, also is the RS6 '02 that you tuned is the sedan version and not the wagon right?

I will keep a look out for sure. Yes its the sedan version :)

You could always ask in the Marketplace. I will ask there too.

Yeah I didn't think about that really hah.

Edit: I found the Audi and i'm going to put the setup on it right now but is there any reason why the back on the car is lower than the front?

REVIEW OF THE AUDI RS 6 '02 TUNED BY J'S TUNING GARAGE:

Before:
I first bought this car, did an engine/chassis rebuild, upgraded it the way you did with no real tuning setup and took it to Trail Mountain Circuit for a few laps. The first thing that I noticed was the slow acceleration, considering it is a sedan and it weighs quite a bit I didn't bash it to hard but I had a feeling that J's new transmission setup would help out with this significantly. The second and final thing that really popped out at me was how bad this boat handled in the turns, you almost have to come to a complete stop to insure that you didn't taste the wall, understeer at it's best! I finally got sick of driving the car around the track with no real setup and decided to put J's setup on it.

After:
After I put J's setup on the RS 6 the first thing I noticed was that it did seem to accelerate much better off the line and when exiting the corners for sure, secondly the car handled much better throughout the corners with the understeer reduced a lot and it felt as if oversteer was encouraged with the new setup intact. I did like that the understeer was pretty much completely gone but I didn't like treating the throttle like a RWD car so the only thing I altered in the new setup was the torque distributor from 20/80 to 28/72 so I could nail it out of the corners with a little bit more ease but then again the 20/80 setup could work for you, it's all personal preference IMO.

Final Thoughts:
I think this Audi is a very fun car to drive, J's setup defiantly helped out with the cars handling and it's transmission setting, the car also sounds great, but I don't think this car is necessarily the "best" car when it comes to 550PP races. It will still put up a fight but being that it is a bit heavy don't expect it to beat everything in sight such as the BMW M3 GTR in the 500PP races. ;)

Thank you for another review :)

The torque distributor is definitely driver preference, but like you said, you don't want to treat the throttle like a RWD car so I think its best to change it somewhere between 70/80 rear torque distribution, thanks for pointing that out. While you still can win races at 550pp it is not by far the greatest for that class. I will consider tuning one for 600pp.
Once again thanks for the Review's, keep em coming if you like. ;)

REVIEW OF THE HONDA CIVIC TYPE R (EP) '04 TUNED BY J'S TUNING GARAGE:

Before:
I had been looking for this '04 EP for the longest time until tonight for the first time the UCD decided to answer my wishes. I added all of the tuning parts that J suggested, did an engine rebuild, along with a chassis rebuild, and took it to my favorite test track, Trail Mountain Circuit for a few hot laps. I have to admit that even with no real setup the Civic didn't have as many glaring flaws as I thought it would have like some other cars but there was one thing that really did seem to stick out, the horrible understeer haunted within every FWD it seems like! The only other little nitpick I have with this car is the transmission setup which didn't utilize the cars power what so ever but I knew J could fix that without a problem.

After:
After I put J's tuning setup on the car the first thing I noticed was how much better the gear ratios were, it perfectly utilized the cars power and the length of the gears fit Trial Mountain Circuit perfectly and the setup of course will fit other small to medium tracks like Deep Forest Raceway fine as well. The second and most important thing I noticed with the new setup was that the understeer was pretty much completely gone from the EP which was a huge plus for me but of course being that it is a FWD it'll never be completely eliminated. I cut at least a second and a half off my lap times with this new setup due to the much sharper handling and transmission setup! 👍

Final Thoughts:
J's setup helped with the Civic a ton and defiantly made a big improvement, especially with the understeer being eliminated and surely this car is bound to be a great car in the 450PP range. I will soon be trying out even more of your setups and reviewing them! :)

You finally got the EP. Good man 👍 Thanks man another good review, If you have any cars you would like to see a tune on don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks Jack

Hey Jack, I'll like to list your Garage in Touge One Stop Shop. Will that be alright with you. All I ask is for you to have a link back to TOSS like you have with GTTC and LotS.

Yeah sure man, thanks.

Hey Jack, thanks for putting out the Golf tune man! I'll be sure and give it a go along with a review once I get this G27 stuff down. I've missed about 200 gears today with the stick shift. :D

Video Review of NSX, and thanks again for giving back the tune, needed it badly lol.

P.S. it would be nice to put this video on your single post NSX for ppl to look at ;o

Dont try to finish it if you cant, but if you can tune a ft-86 to not slip and to turn sharp I'de appreciate it, but alot of people said it was a pain in the butt to tune it lol O_O

I might give this VW tune a go here in the near future, but actually stopped to post just to say what an fantastic format you have there, particularly this new one, everything's easy to see, not just a plain list up and down, looks great, just fabulous work there.
If I were trying to post a tune with cool graphic design, I would copy you. :D
