Has anyone else played this little gem? I've only just tried out the demo, but I think come pay-day, I'm droppin' the dime.

IGN gave it an 84.

On Metacritic the overall score is 83 with an 88% user average.

I think what I like best about this game, is the path of governance you can take—without necessarily having to choose that path in a pre-defined way. The black humour is also a beautiful touch, as is the non-descript and somewhat stereotyped Caribb-latino accent your little advisor has.

Sorry to bring back the dead with this thread but I just got Tropico 3 for 360 and its a great game! It can be challenging to the max sometimes but its good. I have it for pc also but I play it on the 360 just because I don't want to install something large like that on my pc. The main tip I can give anyone is to work on feeding your people and farms for export and housing first, then a church and others after that, and don't get too far in debt or you won't be able to get out of it and you will fail.

Tropico is one of the best strategy based games i have ever played plus the music is so awesome.

Damn you guys just had it ordered for xbox360 ;-)

Shame it's not available on the PS3, i spent many a lunch hour at work on the demo version of the original game. :grumpy:

I love the original. Fun game to play on vacation sometimes late night at a hotel, so I had to jump on the 3rd. Terrific game with very challenging missions.

I believe it came out in October of last year, not really sure because this is the first game of its type that I have ever played, thats what google said anyways.

In case any are wondering, an expansion pack is on the way.
Tropico 3: Absolute Power is title of a new Tropico 3 expansion planned for release this summer, announces Kalypso. Here are some Tropico 3: Absolute Power screenshots, and word is: "Absolute Power gives players all-new options to rule as an unscrupulous tyrant or benevolent elder statesmen as they decide how to run their very own tropical island paradise. A successful and lucrative term in office is the goal! Absolute Power is packed with new missions, new islands and a whole host of new gameplay features." The announced feature list follows.

* New campaign featuring 10 missions on a separate map with 10 islands which are also available in sandbox mode
* New buildings (including Garbage Dump, Marina, Small Garage, Children's Playground, and more...) and a new buildings category for current and new decorations with individual icon models
* New “Megalomania” Edicts - demonstrate your absolute power by ordering the construction of a huge golden statue of Tropico's top export, declaring an annual festival dedicated to yourself or even print your own money!
* Six New Landmarks – build huge decorations and structures which dominate the island landscape and make each island unique.
* New Faction - The “Loyalist Faction” are your die-hard supporters and want no elections (since El Presidente is obviously the best candidate) and want a statue on every corner!
* Faction Disasters - Low standing with any island faction will trigger new disasters if not addressed
* New Intro and Win/Lose Cutscenes
* Four Additional Avatar Costumes – Two for male and two for female avatars
* Beautification upgrades for the presidential palace including rooftop pool, extra towers, flags, banners and a larger balcony (which will increase the effects of balcony speeches)
* More icons displaying the status of buildings and displaying input/output storage numbers for selected buildings
* Prevalent Faction - In every sandbox game one faction is chosen as "prevalent" on the island. Members of this faction will be especially numerous throughout the entire game and their satisfaction will be more important than usual
* More radio announcements to guide you through Tropico’s daily life
* Gravel Roads – A second type of road for rural areas with decreased travel speed
