I think I figured this car out. Stop micro napping on the straights;). This should be a close and exciting race.

I hope racing tonight was as fun as practice! I just got in from Dallas, it was a long day. If its possible to share a replay and you want me to take some photos, feel free to send my way ( I've never tried sharing a replay, so I don't know if that's possible?).

Great racing from everybody tonite. Congratulations thethirdroy on dominating it again. I think we should race these cars again they were fun and easy to drive.

Hey Bob thanks for the car ticket I got a Calsonic Impul GT-R 08

Good racing by everyone in division 2/3

Good Morning Mercdriver, thanks for the interest in Turtle Racing League. Please look over the drivers list in the first page of the thread, and choose an unused car/wheel color combo, and an unused number for races when we use number plates.

Thanks to everyone in div 2&3 for another great clean race! I want to apologize to Scarecrow & Mbobb for improper passing in race 1&2. Particularly in turn 1, i would draft up right at the wrong time every time. It was impatience on my part and a little inexperience running in a pack. I will continue to improve upon that as we go. I had a great time and some epic battles, I'm looking forward to the GTR at Nurb!

Ya it was a great race, although it took me until about half way through the second race to figure out how to get around the track fast. But once I did, I was ripping along.

I also took Scarecrow out the last turn, I was a little too agressive, but I let him pass me :). Too bad though because it would have been a much closer top 4 finish.

Great racing everyone. I'm fascinated at how fast I was for the first half of the race and how slow I was for the rest. Errors were costly too since it takes a lap just to get up to speed. Brilliant runs by mbobb and FFK in race 2 but my hat is off the theThirdRoy for a dominating performance. I got through traffic pretty quick in race 2 and he got caught behind a bit, but he just picked off everybody one by one until the final showdown with mbobb.

Exciting stuff scarecrow937!

This week was a blast. There was some very close and intense battles lasting pretty much the entire race, in both races. I got lucky in the first race after battling with Mic for the entire race. Towards the end he was in the lead and went a little wide going into the first tunnel and brushed the wall. Nothing to bad, but enough for me to get the pass on him down the hill. If he hadn't made that mistake I doubt I would have gotten the win in race 1.

Great Racing in Division 2/3 Since Flesx Won the pole the pressure was on the division 3 racers to stop him, we had about a 10 lap battle in the first race until i got my back tire on the grass:ouch: Luckily :sly: he got a penalty on that pavement close racing there, then in the second race came to the last turn .500 second win. Great Racing everyone!

Guys, I'll be taking a break from all TRL related events, including practice, for a while. I need to take a break and recharge myself before I can race again. Good luck to all of you, especially in the inaugural Nurb Series race.

Hello again Mercdriver, I'm sorry, but this league is reserved for racers living in North America. I replied to your first post via the GTPlanet App and did not see your location at that time.

Sorry!

Sorry!

To be clear, it is only because of lag issues that we require that drivers be from North America. Otherwise we would happy to race with you.

I had fun Saturday! Mostly tried to stay out of every ones way and chose my battles when I got comfortable. The first race I got punted off the track the second lap before the second tunnel. That put me all by myself, which was probably a good thing to get more experience. Finish 9th I think. The second race I started up front but pulled off down the front stretch at the start. I was just too nervous I would get in someones way. I then ran some consistent 141.5 laps and had a good back and forth clean battle
with Johnsom. He finally pulled away from me when he ran several clean laps in a row and I had nothing for him and lost the draft . Finished 10th I think in that one.

I was amazed at the speed you guys found out these cars.

Go to our practices, you will get lots of tips and some practice races. If you ever get punted and the driver that punted you doesn't wait, let the steward know about in a GTP pm after the race so we can take care of it.

Reverse grids can always be hairy. No too long ago Division 3 ran with Division 1. So on the 2nd race everyone knew that they were probably going to be passed at some point.

It can be nervous knowing that doom is coming to your back end. While nothing I can say can help with that issue, it's important to realize a few things:

1. In a merged division race we are all equal race car drivers. There are times when a division 3 person spanks division 2 (race 1 @ la sarthe two weeks ago, thirdroy took it home.)

2. They have to pass you. You don't owe them anything in terms of letting them by. It's part of the thrill of the reverse grid, granted overall the leaders of the first race ended up getting back up the front.

3. Starting up front in front of the fast people will help you. When/If they do get the pass, you have to learn from your mistake. We are all in spec cars and what did you do that they are doing differently. Did they brake less for that turn/did they take a different line....

4. I used to hate reverse grid races. There have been enough of my early turtle races where I was in the front section and got into 1st place only to crash and end up in the back. What happened? I'd get nervous. I'd see the faster guys passing guys in my division and know they were coming. If they are going to pass me they are going to pass me, but it's on my turns and I should just race my race and focus on that.

5. Keep your eyes ahead. Focus on the next turn(s). Yes the casual eye on where the guy behind you is and what he's doing. You always want to be aware of other drivers, but your main focus is what lies ahead.

6. When doing the 2nd race you should already have a good baseline on how your driving your car and what laptimes you should be getting. Maintain what you were doing in the first race and stick to it. Maybe you would be a little more defensive to keep them behind you, but your in the lead now. The passer has to wait for a chance to pass not have it given to him/her.

7. When you in the middle of fast traffic watch ahead for what the 'faster' guys are doing. Going to Psycho's point of coming to the practices is a great benefit. You learn by racing.

8. If you do participate in practices (wish I could) make sure and save the replay. Pick someone who did well that race and watch their view. Now watch yours what is different?

9. If you have plenty of practice time, use the practice mode in A-Spec. Granted there is a slight difference when we include playing over the internet, but getting your base-line of how you are racing the track down is important. Use the data-logger after a lap to see where you can be better on braking/acceleration.

10. Make sure if you have practice time to figure out a brake balance. Default is 5/5 and most times it's not that great of a default setting. I'm very good at brake balance either, but in a spec series race. It's the only thing we're allowed to change. unless it's a 4wd with the torque distribution. Remember that when you set a brake balance on the track, those settings are set static until you go to the settings screen and change them.

11. If I have an open schedule and could practice whenever I wanted, I'd do three things:
A.) Run the practice session with other drivers. Watch their lines & braking points.
B.) Run A-spec practice mode for 10-15 laps. Strive for the best time. Use the data logger to look at your telemetry with the laps. You should be able to reproduce a consistent lap time (I strive for within .300 seconds)
C.) Go to your online lounge and run a practice race solo. If this week's race is 30 laps. Run 30 laps. Know when to pit, know when your tires are warmed up, know when your tires start to degrade that you need to watch in on turns.

Most of these things are just general ideas on becoming a better racer. Nothing will take away the anxious feeling of being in the front.

The more confident you are in your abilities the less worried you can become about "the faster guys" nipping at your heels. In a sense you want to be more focused on your racing (staying on line, braking points, general awareness of the driver ahead/behind you) than you want to be focused on "Oh 🤬, Oh 🤬, Oh 🤬, Oh 🤬, Oh 🤬, , 'insert faster driver name here' is on my bumper waiting to pass.

Note the bold on 'waiting'. He's waiting for a chance to pass. He's not requiring you to let him by just because he's faster.

Knowing is half the battle as someone from G.I. Joe said.

Long and drawn out, I didn't mean to type out that much.

Alot of great advice and tips thnx. I did attend the practice and learned a ton. I got alot faster by following when I could.

I need more exprerience (which builds confidence) just running with someone. I find myself looking more in my mirror (in the race) than focusing on my line and braking points. ( as you eluded to, Infinital-NG)

Ph1sher also taught me alot. We ran 13 laps together earlier that day. He ran behind me and in front of me. Got me used to having traffic around.

The best advice (above from Infinital-NG )
to the biggest question I have had so far!

Waiting to pass not requiring you to pullover.

Dawson's right on the money here. 99% of the time I will pass someone because of forcing them into a mistake. I will park my bumper right on their's. I will move around a bit to fill every bit of the mirror. I will disapear and stick it to the outside just to give the leading car something to think about. However, if your a lap or more down to the leaders please yield. But for the most part. The best thing for you to think about while your ahead is YOUR line. YOUR braking points and so forth. When I'm in danger or being passed I worry about my stuff and it's the guy's job behind me to pass clean.

Also practicing with faster guys will make you quicker. Once upon a time I was very very slow. I started racing with the faster guys and picking up hints here and there. I would study the video of the faster guys, and see what they are doing differently. Easier in, quicker out, trail braking, late/early apex and so forth.

Don't ever be afraid to ask for help either. personally I love helping others to gain speed, but because of college schedule it doesn't leave for a lot or any practice time in GT5 right now. But, never be afraid of asking on the forum.

Hey man! Your welcome! Glad your getting better! And in practice if you need any tips feel free to ask me I usually spend quite a lot of time practicing each week! See you at practice this week!

More great advice to my biggest question.. thanx
