TURTLE RACING LEAGUE - FORMULA 1 Racing Series - EVERYONE WELCOME!

You are right on both counts. Great practice and more people should try the F1s as they are very addictive and fun to race. I have to say, this is a great group of guys to race. The F1 is notoriously difficult to drive cleanly, but this group is awesome. Thanks for letting me join in on the fun!

As far as target lap times, I think 1:14s are realistic times to be competitive. Vegas and Legacy/no bull will probably have quick laps in the 1:12s and 13s.

I predict Johnsom will be chasing gold on Thursday night! Great laps you were putting in tonight.

I will take that as a compliment Joe! Thanks!

Half way through the practice race I knew I couldn't match your consistent speed. I tried hold you off but it is really inevitable. So I took the safe route and avoided to push too much!

I think lap 6 it was... when we were side by side on turn 1... was I in front of you before the turn or we would have collided if I tried to hit the apex?

I recall we were almost side by side but you were a bit ahead so, I let off to let you take the corner. At turn in you slowed down thinking I was going for the apex and I think we were both just sitting there for half a second LOL. I believe it was the second time we were going into turn 1 that I was ahead and you let off well before turn in.

Also, johnsom, you had some serious speed at Tokyo man. You will find the extra second no problem and run 14s for sure, maybe quicker.

@joe: I'm gonna do a few laps tonight when I get home. I doubt 1:13 or 1:12s though

I don't doubt it. I already did 1:13.8xx in practice full fuel no abs.

Arrgg, did it again. Too much coffee today I think. Sorry for double post.

just did some laps was only hitting a 1:13.6xx I don't feel very fast and this track is torture for the front tyres.

I'm sure you will do 12s. I'm slower but my driving style tends to be easier on tires, even with abs off.

Ok, for a second I thought maybe you were in a Honda Integra.

That's what I thought... actually, I stopped because I was looking for my look right button to check where you are.

I can't race tonight. Something came up in my household that may or may not be serious, we don't know yet, but I'm in no condition to race.

I lose focus and crash if I try to use the "look right/left buttons" and have to get by with my Map on 2. It can make it difficult to see traffic come up behind during reentry, but a quick look to the left (map on screen) gives me a good idea of overlap and proximity. I don't seem to have any problems looking back to identify drivers during Blue Flag type situations, but a quick look to the side sends me off.

^ I figured that is what happened. Too bad about your shaky connection.

I cleared my cache, restarted modem and on wired connection. Usually it happens during a long race or during the 2nd race.

Should i start calling Rogers?(Phone company)

I had that same problem until I got a new modem. I don't believe I have been disconnected during a race since.

Absolutely you should call and complain. I had issues with my Rogers internet where every couple of hours it would turn off. I kept calling it in every couple of days until they sent someone out. It took a second crew coming out to find a bad switch (?) out on the street somewhere and it's been fine since. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Rogers internet should have a very low, single digit jitter rating and rarely drop a connection.

Race Recap

Congratulations ABG_Legacy97 on your win! There were some fantastic finishes in Race 1. LR_VEGASRACER waited a fraction of a second too long to kick out for a draft pass on Psycho-Tuber. A slight bump nudged Psycho-Tuber enough for him to take 3rd Place in the race by only .017. Also in Race 1, FFK13 was able to hold on to 4th Place, finishing only .183 in front of Oshawa-Joe. Wow, that's close racing! The Pole played an important role this week. There would have been a tie at 90 Points between ABG_Legacy97 and LR_VEGASRACER with LR_VEGASRACER winning the "Tie Breaker", but the 2 points ABG_Legacy97 earned for the Pole put 1st Place in the bag for him and LR_VEGASRACER had to settle for 2nd Place. Psycho-Tubers relatively consistent races and 1 pit strategy helped him to a 3rd Place finish. Oshawa-Joe had a little trouble early in Race 1, but otherwise very good driving earned him a 4th Place finish overall. FFK13 had two solid races but didn't quite have the speed to compete with 1:12s and 1:13s, a 5th Place finish was the result. ph1sher was very consistent. Two 6th Place finishes earned him 6th Place with 66 points. johnsom wasn't far behind ph1sher in Race 1 but a disconnect in Race 2 lead to a 7th Place finish. shred-tec had fast enough lap times to compete for a mid pack finish. A couple of lapses in focus is all it takes to send you back in these things. shred-tec DNFd in Race 2 for an 8th Place finish. GTP_tzracer parked it 2/3 of the way through Race 1 for unknown reasons and didn't start Race 2. He never left the track in Race 1 so he gets the points and a 9th Place finish. Great racing guys!

Sorry if I got in anyone's way during the first race. Wife walked in from work as the start counted down and ruined my concentration.

Quick question. I assume cars aren't allowed to gain positions by ghosting as per GTP OLR. Not related to first race.

How do you mean ghosting? I'm not familiar with any method of ghosting to take a position. Does it involve pressing the start button to ghost and go through someone?

EDIT: I think you must be referring to this.

13.D If your car becomes a ghost, you are not permitted to overtake other cars. If you happen to overtake a car while being a ghost, you must return to your original position safely.

I'll post the section when I get on my lap top.

Yes, in general going through ghosted cars is a bad idea. For one, they can go solid at any time and should probably always be treated as such. Certain conditions are also know for ghosting cars and can be exploited to gain a position.

This is more of an awareness thing for anyone new to Turtle as I know it is in the first post.

Wasn't feeling too well part way through the race. Difficult time concentrating, so I pulled over. Skipped the second race and went to bed.

Generally speaking we try to treat ghosted cars just like any other car on the track (including lapped cars). I think a blue flag like situation should be an un-written rule when it comes to lapped cars though (lapped drivers should pull over to the side and allow the faster driver to pass). The case where a crashed driver gets ghosted, and uses the opportunity to overtake another driver is definitely something we don't want to see since it is blatantly taking advantage of the situation.
