I was in Stockport on my lunch break and I n into a few Rangers fans, this is at 12.15, they were asking for the nearest pub for an early start.

Well. Cracking goal. Good move. Plan B anyone?

When I saw them start running I thought that advance looks a bit dangerous... and look what happened!

Rangers dont have much time left... even if they do score they will then have to likely go to penalties.

Novo! Oh NOVO. Should have scored

Edit :The End.

Zenit and Rangers have done so well to get there. I don't think many would have said that as the final.

The better team won, I wanted Rangers to win but they shouldn't have been playing 4-5-1 they should have had 2 up front. They still might have lost, but at least they'd have got forward a bit more and had more chances to score themselves.

Rangers don't have a plan B. They rely on stopping the other steam from scoring. If the other team scores, it's game over (unless the other team is a wee diddy team, which Zenit aren't)
.

They don't know how to attack. Towards the end, they showed Walter Smith thumbing his way through a clipboard of notes frantically looking for the attacking tactics, but they weren't there. Leaving your most natural finisher and top goalscorer on the bench for 85 minutes is not the way to win a football match.

And now their "fans" are fighting one another and trashing Manchester.

Well, that turned out to be a bit of a damp squib... still managed to have a hangover this morning, nevertheless :irked: Hopefully my mate Stefan who lives in Manchester city centre wasn't affected by the trouble :ill: As for the trouble after/during the game, it seems it's the same old story of a few idiots ruining it for everyone else. Certainly, some of the behaviour of the fans was totally out of order - but at the same time, I was quite shocked by what I saw on the news tonight... thousands of folk turn up to watch the biggest game of their lives only to find out that the screen isn't working... and when frustration started to boil over, the riot police seemed to indiscriminately attack anyone who happened to be in their way. Attacking the police is totally stupid and indefensible, but did the police really need to treat a huge crowd of frustrated, angry and very disappointed people as if they were all criminals? A sad day for Scottish football - for more than one reason...

I'll second that, I had hoped they'd win it, for the Ipswich - Alexander connection if nothing else but if you're going to keep playing 4-5-1 then they've got it coming eventually. What was it? 7 goals in 8 games and rarely playing more attacking than a 4-5-1? Then again...it seemed to work for Pompey (poor performances, low goal count etc)...Ranger's luck just ran out.

On the subject of the CL Final...I'll guarantee this much...Drogba will score lol, Vidic has openly accused him of being a diver and we know what happened to Liverpool when Rafa publicly said the same... When will these guys learn? I know they're trying to psych the opposition out but you just don't come out and say stuff like that because it's almost always going to gee them up even more and backfire.

I'm just happy it's on ESPN2 here in the states and I can actually watch it for once. It's getting fairly ugly now.

Oh and what Drogba did was a rather poor move, honestly who slaps?

at Ronaldo.

I'll make this quick... congratulations to Manchester United to winning 6-5 on placement kicks after a 1-1 tie in regulation. Chelsea was game, but not game enough against Man U. Somewhere inside, my GTP friend Dave A must be smiling (unless he's not a fan of Manchester United)...

Soccer AM. Boston goals. Anyone?

You just knew an Englishman was going to miss. Sar went the same way for Lamp's, Cole nearly got saved and then Terry, fail.

Manchester United...wow Feel soo bad for John Terry..he must feel like crap..

YAAAAAH! COME ON MAN U!

Smiling, I'm like a Cheshire cat. Fantastic night and a much better game than the FA cup final. Ronaldo played well even though he missed that penalty, I just had a gut feeling he would. Of all the players it would have been sods law for his to be poor tonight and it was. Fortunately Terry did a Beckham and slipped as he took his. I thought it was a very close game, we we're by far the better team in the first half and they were the better team in the second. Extra time got a bit scrappy but I though we edged the game overall and deserved to win. But then i would say that.

I'm thrilled, well and truely thirlled. My phone keeps going every few seconds, we've got fireworks going off, everyone down at the local was going mental. Fantastic, asolutely fantastic. The only downer is I've got to find some way of getting to sleep soon thanks to work in the morning.

Impressive game, how come they don't show UEFA Football on American TV? I find it far more interesting then most other sports shown here.

+1 more Londoner for Man U. I swear Terry slipped after taking the shot I think they said that to ease the pain. Avram Grant looks soo badly like Uncle Fester btw.

They do sometimes, but it's in the afternoon. CSS also shows some premiership games between middle clubs like Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa.

ESPN showed a bunch of the games leading up to the Final. The games were on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on ESPN2 usually around 13:30 Central time. Some of ESPN other networks, such as Classic, usually had a game on each day too. I would watch the games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at a pizzeria/bar near campus.

With all of that said, pay close attention to ESPNs upcoming schedule. They should be showing the upcoming friendly between USA and England, along with a bunch of the Euro 2008 games.

Congratulations to United! :ungrit teeth: Deserved to win it. I'm thankful Chelsea didn't for so many reasons and it made staying up from 2am-6am very worthwhile indeed. IMO United's win is a triumph for attractive football, good sportsmanship and English football in general. Chelsea, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Well done again to the Mancs.

Woohoo!!!!! Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! :D

Well done Man Utd, you won the champions league by the skin of your teeth. It was very close match which could go either way. Definitely one of the best matches i've seen so far. Both teams giving it their best playing 90+ minutes plus 30 minutes of extra time and the dreadful penalty.... This game might go down in history as one of the all time best matches from the same country. The English finals that was even better than Italian or Spain...... 👍

Too bad for Chelsea as they seem to be the better team in the second half and extra time. Drogba and Lampard (as well as a few others) did really push Man Utd to their limit and had almost gotten away with a goal in the 2nd half (the Drogba kick hits the post!) while still applying the pressure in extra time. Man Utd did manage to hold on and prevent any goals from entering as well as having a few tries of their own, but they could only hold on for so long, even when Van Der Sar wasn't performing at his best (I mean, he did make very crucial mistakes in that game.......) The incident near the end of the extra time was just uncalled for. I mean, Drogba didn't really have to slap Vidic over a stupid throw-in (which I presume) and Teves should have known better to just give the ball to them. But thats football for you........

Then there was the penalty, oh yeah, the deciding factor of the entire game. Man Utd were up first and I was cheering them on the early mornings (it was 5:30 am during that time :ill:) and Teves manage to score first. Then it was Chelseas turn and they manage to score as well. All seems well until it was Ronaldo's turn. He tried to kick, but hesitated at the last second, and really by then, Petr Cech already know where Ronaldo would be kicking. He already slipped up with the penalty in the semis against Barca and sure enough, he messed up again. :ouch: It was then that I said to myself that Chelsea has won it.......... until Terry came along. I don't really know why he was there, but boy oh boy did he slip up. He was almost that 🤬 close to winning Chelsea their first UEFA Champions League title, but he slipped and the shot went wide of the post. I couldn't believe my eyes what just happened back then.......

It was almost the turning point of the entire game and sure enough, they had lost on penalties. It was tied on 5 all, and Anderson did score to get 6 goals for Man Utd, leading Chelsea ahead by 1 goal. Then it was Anelka who stood up to take the penalty, and everyone thought he would just score just like everyone else did..... but when he took the shot, somehow and I mean SOMEHOW, Van Der Sar went the right way and blocked the shot!!!! I mean, when he saved that certain goal, the whole stadium erupted. I was jumping on my feet and couldn't feel any happier when I saw them celebrating. They somehow manage to come back a goal down and win!!!!! It was probably the happiest day for Sir Alex Ferguson, as he probably had done the impossible and win both the league title and this. He is also one of the few who manage to win the Champions League twice. A great day none the less....

The trophy presentation was quite cool and well done, and the medals given the Chelsea was just ecstatic. Drogba didn't appear after his silly actions with Vidic and served him right doing so. But the unhappiest person of all was Avram Grant, he just looks very grumpy when he took the medal, he was just a sight to laugh at. But yeah, he wasn't the only one who was moody. I can't help but sympathize for Terry. He was really crying his heart out when he missed that penalty and when Chelsea lost. Poor guy indeed...... :( But the Man Utd presentation was much much better. With Sir Bobby Charlton representing Man Utd to take the plaque, you know that history was made...... Ryan Giggs really deserved to be up there with him and he was the first person to hold the trophy and yeah, the rest then get to hold the trophy as well..... :)

I would just like to say that, although Man Utd had won this game, its sad that they only manage to win 3 times so far, which means they can't get to keep the trophy like Liverpool. However, like what Sir Alex Ferguson has aimed for (which is to beat the Liverpool record) he wouldn't retire and still work with Man Utd to reach his ambition. Only a few more years and Man Utd will go down in history as one of the best English teams or all time..... 👍 Just 2 more Alex, just 2 more......

Edit: I could have written more but I guess thats just a wasted effort, I have too much things to share my mind with. Also, this just shows how much I support Manchester United..... ;)
