Ugly But Appealing Vehicles

SVX is a good call. 👍 I've always liked the Citreon C6 since it was launched - looks fantastic on the road plus it's styling has that '**** you!' French attitude. Chatting with folk seems to show I'm alone with this one though.

The C6 is not ugly. Period.

It is how a true big Citroën should be. Beautiful and driving like a flying carpet.

Not popular though considering it's pitched up against BMW, Audi and Mercedes. Wrong badge I guess.

I do believe Citroën never intended to build them in big numbers.

I can see it become a modern classic.

SVX is a good call.

It was by far the ugliest car on GT1 due to the polygon count not being able to accurately get those wicked angles.

But that's precisely why I love it. There's something about being the ugliest in the game that is kind of endearing.

The Demio has cult status speedwise.

Popularity =/= style ;) Otherwise BMW X6s would be nowhere to be seen.

I'd definitely have a C6. I'd go as far as saying I will have a C6 at some point, when I can afford a used one. Ditto those other French oddities, the Renault Vel Satis and Avantime. I firmly believe the French know luxury like nobody else. Apart from perhaps the British, but then French luxury isn't necessarily all about wood'n'leather.

And the X6 gets my award for the most pointless car ever created. Well done BMW.

In addition to this, I have always felt that the bigger French cars have a higher standard of build quality than their smaller counter parts.

And. I would love to own a C6. At some point I should.

Let's all get one each. £10k will get you a TDi with 50k on the clock. £20-22K will get you the best examples out there with less than 10K on the clock - that's a lot of car for your money.

Forgot one in my last post:

Ford Scorpio.

Gotta love these taillights. I always found it awesome because it has a typical American look to it and this just stands out between some boring VWs and Opels.

That's probably one of the most ugliest cars in the world.

Ford Granada > Ford Scorpio

Especially the Sierra-looking Granada, which was a rebadged Scorpio.

Very handsome. But this isn't the thread for handsome cars...

Just a small correction, the Abarth 131 was based on the 124 successor, the 131.
Which is a different car than the Fiat 124 which formed the base of the Lada.[/IMG]

Indeed, i stand corrected. 👍

@ axletramp.
Sir, you have impeccable taste. 👍

One more but no pic (can't be bothered). My dad used to have a 2 door Hillman Avenger GT, used to love that car, not exactly a looker, but okay for it's day.

[EDIT]

:yuck: ^ The Ford Scorpio... the sausage car.

True, this thread is about ugly cars, so I thought the '95 Scorpio would fit.
Its back also reminds me of the Mazda Eunos Cosmo. For some reason I always liked a styling like this on the rear of sedans etc.

EDIT: A Hillman Avenger is not ugly at all in my opinion.

Ah, the Cosmo. It was basically to Mazda, what the SVX was to Subaru.

But would we consider it ugly?

G.T.Ace.

I see the similarities with the rear lights of the Cosmo... but on the Mazda it just looked so right.

Nah, the Cosmo is not ugly. It's magnificent and absolutely awesome. Just love rear ends like this and this made the Scorpio so appealing to me (while looking kinda hideous).

This all reminds me of my Dad's Fiat 132 he had as a company car for a while. This one here isn't his but is pretty similar:

My uncle had one of those, fond memories of that car as it sounded great and was quite luxurious inside, I later read it had terrible handling, tons of understeer and a poor chassis, ah well.

As for French luxury cars not being succesful, guess that's simply due to living in the age of brand snobbery.
Fiat used to have the 130, Opel the Diplomat and Senator, Peugeot/Citroën the 604/CX, etc., etc. and all these cars were regarderd at the time as perfectably acceptable alternatives to a BMW or Mercedes but now it's just an odd eccentric choice unfortunately and those brands mostly just gave up trying which you can't blame them.

Occasionally they give it another go against better wisdom perhaps which results in lovely cars as the Vel Satis and C6 for example, or this Lancia Thesis which undoubtedly is an acquired taste and therefor perfectly suited for this thread.

Hah, I saw a Scorpio today and thought of this thread. And it's just been posted. I love the rear end too, very American looking. I don't think it's THAT ugly, the front is pretty bad but the rest is nice. They look better as wagons anyway.

I must admit, the Scorpio has grown on me. When it was released it was instantly one of the ugliest cars ever produced, but if anything it's now just fairly bland. I do like the rear lights too though.

Another I used to find hideous, but now oddly quite like:

Only thing I ever liked about it were the taillights. The front end though (more specifically, the front end on face-lifted model) was dire really. Even so, I've always sort of liked how American they looked compared to most other European cars of the 90s.

It's back also reminds me of the Mazda Eunos Cosmo. For some reason I always liked a styling like this on the rear of sedans etc.

Eunos Cosmo looks far nicer overall. I quite like that along with the SVX.

I remember how much I used to like the rear end lights on the old Fiat Brava:

But the front end never looked right compared to the rest of the car. It looked more fitting on the 3 door Bravo though, but I hated the rear end on that. Reminds me of the face from some sort of insect:

And yet I've always thought the Marea was alright in the looks department:

But only the estate version.

hfs, the Tigra?

It's a design classic like the comparable Ford Puma. Quirky little cuties.

Yup. But I hated it at the time, with a passion. Think it was just so different from anything else out there that I couldn't get used to it. Now, I actually think it's a pity they didn't work on the front end a little more - the Puma showed what could be done with an entire re-think of the Fiesta.

The Tigra's interior is still nasty though. Bog-standard Corsa, only with less space.

When it first came out, i didn't really like the original Ford Ka, but it's grown on me over the years, especially the ones with different coloured wheelarches.

They aren't too bad but compared to the year before? Ew. Have you seen one IRL? They are the size of a F350 Quad cab with an 8 foot bed

I have. There's a yellow one here in Saugerties and a red one back where I use to live.

They're enormous but that just means there's more of them to love.

EDIT:
And my dad's F-350 quad cab with an 8' bed is sexy, too. So I don't see what point you were trying to make.
