Also first result in. Labour in the lead. (It was a safe seat )

...and they've doubled their lead :D

2 called of 650, both Labour. Watched the first declaration, wasn't sure of the constituency but Labour 21,000 ish, UKIP 8,000 ish, Conservative 7,000 ish. Liberal 700 ish, oh dear.

Exit polls suggest that the Conservatives will actually be close to the majority and that they'll be calling the shots if a coalition is required.

Here's the exit poll prediction (grey bars) with the amount needed for an overall parliamentary majority shown as a dotted line at the top.

A good night for the SNP if it comes true.

The Lib Dems are getting destroyed. 22% vote loss in Newcastle and 10% in Putney.

Yup, UKIP have stomped them so far, Greens making a few gains (in numbers of votes if not in seats). It'll be interesting to get the full post-ballot numbers tomorrow.

EDIT: Now I'm just praying that Farage doesn't win Thanet, and/or that Al Murray (FUKP) does :D

Early results suggesting Tories could be doing better than even exit poll suggests, BBC not ruling out chance of an overall majority - imagine that, after all the coalition crap/tit-for-tat during the campaign. Guardian have put it best - Clegg may have more bloody 'red lines' than he does MPs!

Early count figures (undeclared) suggest that the leader of the Scottish Labour party has lost his seat... and that South Thanet is going Con rather than UKIP. If true that's two party leaders out of a seat. Will Clegg be the third? ;)

Getting ready for a stagnant economy and evaluating other countries to live in.

Get ready for a second independence referendum if the SNP figures in the exit poll are correct. I'll heading north if that happens! @Touring Mars, anyone round there need a band member? :D

The in-studio politics professor is studying the currently-known results alongside the exit polls.... he now feels it's a real possibility that the Conservatives will actually gain an overall majority.

I've also added the result of the GTP Election Poll to the OP (and here).

Biggest scalp of the night so far: shadow foreign secretary and Labour campaign strategist Douglas Alexander has lost his seat (to a 20 year old student no less).

And Jim Murphy has gone, the leader of Scottish Labour. Labour -15 and Lib Dem -1 in Scotland at time of posting.

EDIT: As has Jo Swinson (Lib), Junior Equalities Minister.

EDIT II: George Galloway being a git again;

BBC Trending
Galloway apparently retweeted a message suggesting he was building a substantial lead on his Labour opponent Naz Shah in exit polls in Bradford West. The tweet was later removed or deleted, as was the account where the message originally came from.

Releasing the results of exit polls while voting is still ongoing is a criminal offence, and the Bradford West returning officer referred Galloway to the police as the count continued early Friday.

Trending contacted Galloway for comment, but he hasn't responded.

In his speech he implied he'll continue as Scottish Labour leader for now, initial thought was 'hmm should he stay there if he isn't an MP?' - then realised it looks like no one in Scottish Labour is set to be in Westminster......

True.

Alex Salmond and co have been saying some hard words about the legitimacy of a Conservative government in Scotland, the SNP are clearly strong there now... if it does get to requiring a coalition (not certain at the moment) I think that Cameron might see much to gain in negotiating with them.

Labour... well. I wonder if Ed Miliband will even survive the next few weeks or months.

EDIT: Liberal Energy Secretary (Edward Davey) has gone. Some real scalps on the fence this evening.

Serious talk from one of the BBC political correspondents about a leadership challenge starting as early as tomorrow in the Labour party. What did I just say? ;)

When do the England seat results really start flooding in?

Scotland are already half done whereas the counting in England seems to be rather slow.

Anything short of Miliband being PM probably would have seen a challenge, but if they've done so bad theyve gone backwards from 2010 then there's no question he'll have to go I think.

Not that that will definitely bring harmony to the party - we'd likely see the return of the Blairites, via Andy Burnham or maybe even Chukka Umanna.

The english council elections (whose votes need to be separated from the GE votes) is probably what's held things up.

Andy Burnham's name is certainly being bandied about. One wonders about another Miliband too, and I don't mean "The Steve".

And the same worries for Clegg, of course. Poor Clegg. Deputy Vince is almost-literally laying a cable right now, he doesn't seem safe in his seat (so to speak).

UKIP fail to take Greater Grimsby, they seemed very sure they were going to defeat Labour there but it hasn't happened.

Lib Dems take Orkney and Shetland, the poor souls are too far away to know that an election (or the SNP) happened.

Will Miliband go though? If you discount the traitorous Scottish :P then Labour have actually gained seats.

In NI news, DUP have gained back East Belfast, but have lost South Antrim to UUP (who return to the commons after a 5 year absence) - so it looks like they will remain on 8 seats.

Only other possible change in NI is in Fermanagh and South Tyrone, where the UUP, thanks to a pre-election pact with the DUP, have a clear run against Sinn Fein, and it may be a close race. If they did get it then 8+2=10 unionist seats, which could be an important number if there's a Tory minority.

Vince Cable defeated in Twickenham. Lib Dem's deal with the devil has burnt them badly.

Here's how it stands after about 240 declarations (of 650)...I'm going to bed so that Mrs. Ten will let me play PCars if it arrives tomorrow :D

EDIT: Final result of my evening... Nick Clegg holds his seat by about 3000 votes from Labour. Maybe not his party job, but his seat.

Lib Dems getting absolutely smashed. From the small selection I've seen, most Lib Dem votes appear to have gone to non-Con/Lab parties.

Osbourne's gurn all over the telebox.

I couldn't watch any of the election last night as I had to go to bed early due to being choked with a cold :(

But I tuned into BBC News 24 this morning just in time to see Ed Balls lose his seat.

No prizes for guessing what the headlines will say.

Surprising, didn't expect it to go this way at all. I hope this doesn't give the Conservatives the belief that it will be ok to forget about those at the other end of the economic recovery - not that there's any indication that they would.

EDIT II: George Galloway being a git again;
Oh he'll be in London in a few months.
