Update 1.10 Install error

I'm wondering if the problem is PS3 model-specific. The update worked on my two Slims, failed on my Fat.

Did anyone have the installation fail on a Slim?

Same problem here

I formatted my disk completely, went to do a full install of GT6, It downloads all 9 updates, then when it it applies the updates (the box that comes up when you restart the game) it fails.

2 retries
1 full format (18 hours) 1 complete restoration of the PS3 system, checked disk for obvious problems (none found)
It worked absolutely fine until I tried re-installing it.

Have since installed 5 other games (including GT5) with updates, with no problems, this is definitely GT6 related.

Frankly I'm so disappointed with GT6 as a game anyway.
a) very poor core game
b) AI that defies logic,
c) PS2 cars (none premium !!) and all but one of the so called 'Vision' cars are essentially PS2 cars
d) add ons like 'Red bull' and 'Ayrton Senna' content are cool but don't improve the core game.

Frankly this is the poorest GT game yet (went downhill from 4) so if it wont work I will post my disk directly back to Sony and ask for a refund (which I doubt very much I will get, but interesting fun all the same) and will go with the Grid series.. much better racing fun anyway. I'm not even angry any more, just amused indifferent even.

Zoo

I was having the same issue, I updated to 1.06, cancelled the rest of the updated.. started GT6.. and then restarted the rest of the updates (via ethernet). I had no problem after that. Give that a shot...

My friends version fails on the latest "super slim" model.

Well i have his PS3 here, trying to fix it. No luck so far, tried 3 times with "partial" install (download patch, install patch, run game/repeat). NO LUCK. Last ingame install just stays at 20 min and after a while HDD light does not respond. If you force quit, it restarts the ingame install which ends with the error notification. :/

I have checked with my copy (he bought in in Slovenia, i ordered it from UK) and it installed OK. Sadly after installation his nonUK copy does not register game is installed and wants to update again :/

His blue ray copy looks immaculate.

So not sure what to do, order another copy from UK and hope it works?? :/

I am also using a super slim.. Please make sure you have stable internet (preferably a wired connection), because there is an issue where lost data packets cause the installation to fail.

Im having the same problem to, i have 16 GB free of memory but it gets stuck on installation saying "Approx 20( or 40) mins left" and then it says "An installation error has occured"

Do this offline or online and try this go to your Options in the game click on network and then click on Clear System Cache this may or may not help you but try it but it did work for me.

could somebody please explain it in plain words I'm not very tech savvy I'm having the same problem, error message... I do not know how to reinstall each update I cannot find on the home screen where I can do thisI'm sorry can anybody help me with this? step by step please?

could you clarify what you mean I don't follow you. do you mean go to the options in the game Gran Turismo or in the PlayStation main screen. I'm having the same problem it prepares for installation goes and installation barely installs at all then I get an error message what should I do again?

Hi mate.
I'll try and point you in the right direction.
Just be aware that those that are having trouble are finding it very frustrating, and it's largely persistence that wins the day.

So, I'll assume you have a disc version.
(First job is to make sure all's well and the disc and laser lens cover are clean.)
Anyway, the data you need to remove is on the PS3 menu (XMB)
XMB > Game > Game Data Utlilty folder.
Here you will find a GT6 file.
It contains all the game data and updates you've downloaded so far.
A corrupt file in this data, or the complete lack of a file/s due to packet loss when downloading (particularly when done wirelessly) can cause the install issues. Therefore always use a wired connection if you can, particularly for patch updates.

So to try a fresh re-install, delete this file.

Once that's done, start GT6 offline (don't sign in to PSN) and let the game play.
This will create a new base file in the Game Data Utility folder, replacing the one you just deleted.
While you're in GT6 ...
Do this offline or online and try this go to your Options in the game click on network and then click on Clear System Cache this may or may not help you but try it but it did work for me.
This is what hall90 was talking about.
In the Start button Options menu in GT6 go to 'Network'.
There you will find a 'Clear System Cache' function.
For the sake of a 10 second task you may as well do it.
Then exit out and quit the game.

Personally, I would then do a couple of Safemode functions to help tidy up the HDD.
http://faq.en.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4545/~/ps3-safe-mode-information
Do Options 3 and 4.
Restore File System and Rebuild Database.
That's about as good a footing to begin a fresh download that you can do without reformatting the entire HDD.

So here's where you have a couple of options.
You can either load GT6 and start patch updates from there when it automatically prompts, or you can do it from the XMB without actually starting GT6.
XMB > Game > GT6 game icon (press triangle) 'Check for Updates'.

Either way you will be taken to the update screen.
Here's where the 'step by step' business starts.
Each file (patch) will download and then install one by one.
Once installed, the next patch will begin downloading and then install, etc etc.
It is possible to cancel out of the download once a file has installed. (circle button)
So if it says 'Downloading File 1 of 9' allow for the download and install process of that file to finish.
When it changes and says 'Downloading File 2 of 9' cancel the process.
You now have updated to the next version ... eg v1.01.
So you should now be able to play the game (by cancelling the option to Update Software when you start the game) and check everything is okay.
By repeating this process you can update a patch at a time, instead of hitting it with one huge lump.

On a side note, just be aware of this known issue for updates after v1.02.
Not sure if it will affect you, but here's what to do if it does.
http://www.gran-turismo.com/au/news/00_3266694.html

Other info.
v1.01 and v1.02 were quite large. (over 1GB each)
V1.03 - v1.06 were all quite small.
Then v1.07 and up are again at least 1GB.
So you might want to skip through a few of the patch download steps when you see a run of small files downloading.

It's not a magic bullet.
So don't look at it as a guaranteed fix.
But I hope that explains a few of the things you've read in this thread.

I said go to options in the game, please read it properly. As Aussie_HSV pointed out it s not a quick fix but you got to try these things and they may or may not work. I have a PS3 slim and it wireless and I have no problem downloading from the internet. It may be you internet is you problem and if you downloaded the update and then it starts to install the update and you get a fail message it may be your internet dropping out for some reason.

Thank you! I'll follow the steps as best I can. Does this process remove my $ , progress, and all my cars?!

It depends on what steps are you going to start first to fix your problem. But when you try these things always backup your game saves to a USB so then you do not lose your game saves.

I have actually contacted Sony in relation to this issue.

They advised me to go into the PS3 "safe mode" and "Rebuild Database" and try and reinstall the update after that.

This ^

Worked for me after a week of uninstalling and reinstalling game data and updates. It took about 5.5 hours. But I got there.

It worked perfectly on my super slim, but I've hesitated to try it on my 80-gig fatty. I'll give it a shot and report back...

Just to follow up... I installed the update on my fatty last night with no issues at all. In fact, it may have updated quicker than my super slim did.

So it works on fatty and why are there so many people have problems with there PS3s ? I have a PS3 slim it is 3 years old and wifi and I had no problems with it

Good question. Maybe their internet connections? It's funny, because my super slim is in the living room and running a wired internet connection, while my fatty is in the bedroom and running wireless... And like I said, the fatty may have actually updated quicker. With update 1.09, I did have to restart the fatty once because the download failed, but that was due to my router needing to be reset.

No, all that data is stored in your save file.
The save files are found in a different folder from the game data.
XMB > Game > Save Data Utlilty folder.
As hall90 mentioned above, it's a very good idea to copy your save file to a USB regularly just incase you have any issues there. And when you do, copy the main GT6 file, not the file titled 'Backup'.

You will however lose some things from the process I described earlier.
Deleting the GT6 game data means you will lose replay data, photo data, ghost data etc.
Safemode's 'Rebuild Database' will also remove some things from the console.
Mainly PSN messages and any music playlists you've created, plus a few other even smaller incidentals.

In GT5 I had problems with downloading and installing and the same with you it was my router was not working properly so I got a new one and I have not had a problem for over 2 years.

Yeah, I've got a new one, but I've been too lazy to get behind the entertainment center & rewire everything.

By the way, just installed version 1.11 with no issues on either of our consoles.

Spent all afternoon with my nephews visiting from out of town dicking around with this...:banghead:
Game won't even load while offline. I would love to spend another five hours figuring this out but my nephews are rebelling.
The download initially was flaky regarding download time, it was fluctuating between 10 and 90 minutes. After about 10-15 minutes or so the install started, and again it was flaky (10-90 minutes expected time), keeps crashing after about 10 minutes and roughly 15% complete. Tried many times...
I've tried cleaning the system cache and all the other basic stuff, but am not interested in reformatting my whole HD or trashing my entire prefs just for this game.

Jus
t want to play the game at this point, update or no. Any suggestions on cleaning the defective install so the game will at least fire up while offline?

Suggestions other than "ethernet v wifi" or spending 9 hours doing disk maintenance will be appreciated!

Disc or digital version?
What do you mean by "Game won't even load while offline"?
Won't read the disc?
Are you stuck in an endless failing install loop every time you start GT6?
Have you tried Safemode Options 3 and 4 to remove corrupt files as described in post #43?
