So much money passed around by Kazunori, Michelin, Lewis Hamilton, track licensing, car licensing etc- none of the competitors get paid. Igor Fraga got ZERO for winning championship while fortnite players get paid MILLIONS. WTF Kazunori and Sony???
Except Fortnite is is a giant league compared to Gran Turismo come on...

Next you will compare it to Blizzard games?
And GT is honestly doing an ok job so far with eSports, it needs improvement but i got to partecipate at Mercedes e-cup in Italy and it gets people in (prizes were amazon money plus AMG Driving Experiences).

Also it is being noticed worldwide for races and all.
Also Igor Fraga rocking the Gran Turismo on his f3 car too.

Yeah, zero is woeful no matter how you look at it. Local tournaments have, modest, but very real prize pools.

Why is Lewis Hamilton being blamed for this?

Sure prize money would be nice. But an all expenses paid trip to Japan for playing a video game sounds like a pretty good deal.

GT and Fornite seem like a bizarre comparison. I just checked Twitch: currently 26 people are watching GT Sport streams, Fornite: 84,000+. More eyeballs, more revenue.

First Gran Turismo came out in 1997 - Fortnite came out in 2017 = GT has 20 YEAR HEAD START. Plus they already have history of competition with GT Academy. Kazunori spares no expense with the broadcast quality, yet he has a history of never paying the actual competitors. Its easy for Sony and Kazunori to exploit broke teenagers- colleges do it to college athletes as well.

If thats the criteria we are judging by, I guess all driving esports are doomed. Maybe GT should just quit while its ahead? Why bother competing professionally if you are unpaid?

In 1997 there were no online aspects at all in GT. Or on pretty much any game. And no one is exploring anyone here. All travel expenses are paid by PD, and PD is not forcing anyone to compete at the World Tours. Players have a choice. If they chose to play is because they enjoy the game and the whole experience, travelling to different countries, meeting different people etc. This is a fantastic life experience. For people that race in real life, this is also a big opportunity for publicity and meeting potential sponsors.

Fortnite makes hundreds and hundreds of million dollars every year. These tours don't make much money for PD. And the money PD makes is used for free updates, cause y'know cars and tracks cost money to license.

So if a game developer can't shovel out 1 million dollars for prizes they shouldn't make online games?

You're comparing a game that has 7 million players (and only a fraction of those play online) compared to Fortnite which has 250 million users and they all play online. Just because Fortnite is more popular doesn't mean PD should just give up and go back to making strictly offline games.

And lastly, what does any of this have to do with the update?

Kind of answers itself doesn't it? They're not professionals so they're not being paid.
So GT Sport is a giant expensive scam then? Because the quality of the youtube broadcasts is a lot higher than a bunch of amateurs playing for giggles. Really sad that people have no problem with the competitors getting ZERO money when how much money do you think Lewis Hamilton, Spa Francorchamps, Ferrari, Mercedes, Porsche, BMW all asked to be paid by Kazunori and Sony? Its much easier to exploit a broke teenager to work for free than to exploit Ferrari or Spa Francorchamps for free. EXPLOITATION is the key word.

No, it's a game ;).

Edit to reply to your ninja edit: What does the quality of the Youtube broadcasts have to do with anything.

Edit to reply to your 2nd ninja edit : It's really sad that people think you have to be paid for everything you do and can't do things you enjoy just for fun.

Edit to reply to your 3nd ninja edit :banghead:: It's not exploitation if you choose to do it.

And please stop with the ninja edits :ouch:.

Wait, why is everybody talking about Fortnite? Are the drivers getting Fortnite dances in Sport Mode as victory poses?

Fortnite is a different model. Its a F2P game that has a lot of marketing done by the people streaming the game (new updates, tournaments etc). Fortnite only makes money if people continue to play and would start losing money as soon as the playerbase drops below a certain threshold.

Packaged games are different. Most money is usually made by game copies sold, the rest with microtransactions and DLC. GT eSport is not whats selling the game, hence there's less of a need to make it so.

There's also the key difference that Fortnite has probably made more money than any other single game EVER.

Igor "lift" Fraga is sponsored by GT, his cars livery even shows it. The rest of the players are true amateurs playing a video game and getting to see some pretty nice places for free and be the center of our small universe for a few weekends. If they cannot go, 1000s will be ready to go in there place.

Fortnite is billion dollars business paid by million of kids all over the world with insane commercial interest, Microsoft paid a Fortnite Streamer millions to change streaming platform just to boost MIXER..!

You are comparing a PS4 video game with little to zero commercial interest from any advertisers to the biggest game on the planet. If millions were watching these streams you would have a point, we are in the thousands, you have no point. Lets have fun watching these streams and be happy it's in the current state of innocent good fun.

I just want Spa so the organized online racing series have another track to work with. It's so tiring using the same tracks over and over.

I guess it depends what type of league players run.

If it's F1, I can see where 21 tracks would be desirable. Some new tracks get added to that real series, just about every year, but this game is only two years old. Still more than enough road tracks with variations.

I players want to mimic many real world calendars of other series, most don't have long championships. probably 5-10 tracks. They mainly race at the same tracks over and over. Main problem is(only if players see it as a problem), we don't have to travel or wait to go to these tracks in between the next meeting. We can play every day. So, unless certain players do not play everyday, those that do can find the current track list lacking in variety.

Remember when we only had these for two years? Could you imagine?
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gt5-prologue-track-maps.104549/

At the least, we might get a few more next year.

Welp, guess Microsoft and Turn 10 better start packing if we're going off that since they also aren't throwing out insane prize money. Hell if I recall, the very first one they held had no Money prizes. Just Xbox One consoles, controllers, wheels and the grand prize: A real car.

You're comparing a game that has 7 million players (and only a fraction of those play online) compared to Fortnite which has 250 million users and they all play online.

And if I'm not mistaken, that game is making a massive killing with the profit it generates (which last I checked, GT Sport makes nowhere near despite being a name that's known). Kinda makes sense Epic has Far more money to dish out prize pools like that the Polyphony does.

And lastly, what does any of this have to do with the update?

Or the last thread he posted this in as if its anywhere near comparable to what the NCAA actually does.

WTF!?! This game IS A GIANT ADVERTISEMENT! Every square inch has ads for Tag Heur, Michelin, Toyota, - almost every single car manufacturer. Every single car in this game is an advertisement to get young impressionable kids to buy their cars when they finally make money. There is so much money going to every single person associated with this except for the competitors who are competing to PROMOTE the game so more people buy it. This is SONY- a billion dollar corporation, not a local high school recreation league. GT Sport is about one thing- MAKING MONEY. Too bad the competitors never get to see a cent of that money. GT sport tries to hide that fact.

Edit to reply to your 3nd ninja edit :banghead:: It's not exploitation if you choose to do it.

Companies exploit the labor of willing participants all them time. That's why the rich corporations like Sony and Mercedes keep getting richer and you keep getting poorer and poorer. Thats why labor unions were invented- to stop this kind of exploitation.

Labour? Labour unions? We're still talking about a game right?

I think there's a sensible conversation to be had about prize money in GTSport but comparisons to Fortnite and labour unions I don't think help that.

If they feel like they're being exploited then they can simply not go.

Tell me why can't you play a game just for fun. You need to get paid for everything you do in your life? Even when it's leisure time?

Edit: I really think we should get back to topic. This conversation has nothing to do with the next update.

When Ferrari stars giving away cars for free, Tag Heur starts giving watches for free, Sony starts giving playstations for free, and Lewis Hamilton decides to win an F1 Championship for free, you can start talking. Sony pays everyone but the people doing the actual driving. A company that makes $77 Billion dollars a year can afford to pay Igor Fraga.

https://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/sony-second-quarter-2018-financial-results-1203014802/
"Sony is apparently doing so well it’s increasing its forecast for fiscal 2018. It now expects to make 8.7 trillion yen (over $77 billion USD) in revenue this year, 100 billion yen higher than its previous forecast. It also expects operating income to increase 200 billion yen to 870 billion yen (about $7.7 billion USD), which would be a record for the company."

Most of the series I run or am a part of are 6-8 week seasons so we can spread out the track selection.
Does the league do a simulated Endurance race? Like say, Bathurst 12H? Where, racers start at the Dawn setting(5:30am) and run for a certain amount of laps. Then, change the settings to Noon. Repeat. Then, finish at Sunset or Night? Things like that, add variety to the same circuit over and over.

No that's a bit much to be honest. Between the types of cars used and style of races, we have our fun

Trust. I'm looking forward to Spa as well, for my own Arcade Championships. Should make racing interesting with the longish lap times.

GTPlanet: begs for spa for two years, gets it finally, celebrates for 2 pages, goes back to arguing about Fortnite.

Happy for new content as always here. Red Pig gives me hope for some more iconic racers that are a bit more modern than the current ones. Would like to see maybe a MK2 escort or some other cars from the period we could list all day.

Comparing FIA GTsport with NCAA is the most stupidest thing I ever heard. All Most of the driver are in the event is sponsored by Esport team. If this run by NCAA they wouldn't let you be in any team that pay you or promoting product for your own pocket. They will block you from getting it. The most scummy of all thing they wouldn't let you have side job either. At least PD nice enough allow other player option to be with team or endorsements deal and job. Daily reminder PD give away a watch worth 1000 dollar to the winnner. They given all T-GT wheel to finalist who make it in Monaco. Sorry very little long writing I hate People say stuff without knowledge about the matter. Anyway we should continue topic about the updates next week.

Mr Know it all:
How much does '$77 Billion dollars a year' Sony pay any of the competitors per event?
How much does Sony pay in production expenses to host a single GT sport event?
How much did Sony pay to license Spa Francorchamps in the game?
Sponsor giveaways are not the same a getting paid for your work.
I guess you would be happy working at KFC and getting paid in fried chicken.
Thank your parents that you don't have to pay rent.

I guess this is all purely for fun and leisure, and not money. ;)
