And if you don't have an iPhone, I guess you're not getting the app, or the girls.

Nah, girls love Android.

Excellent app Calcifer! 👍 I downloaded it last week and I have been very impressed with it. The only thing that was missing were the GT Academy rankings but lo and behold, I barely said it and there was the update! Great job.

shame it dont work. it says this app is incompatible with this iphone. yet this is a iphone app. or let me guess. this is only done for the new iphone and not older ones whcih many other people have? nice app but shame it can only be used by limited amount

Cool vid! But how do you record your device as shown in the video?

Thanks! Well, to record your screen you iPhone/ iPod touch must be jailbroken. It's fairly practical depending on which device you have.

Oh ok. I not gonna jailbreak my 4G iPod touch.

Man, this is great. I haven't been able to do any of the tests for over a week now, and it's cool to at least be able to see how others are doing.

Calcifer, Very nice app! 5 star rating from me.

I cannot seem to find General Settings to update/change PSN email address & password. Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks, tadlock

The settings can be found in the settings app that's pre-installed on the device. Apps can have their own setting. It's listed under Apps and then look for GT Rankings.

This and my GTPlanet app are the only two things I like to see in my Updates section of the app store

Minimum requirements is any device running iOS 4.0 and up. This means iPhone 3G is supported and later which means any device is supported that is build since June 2008 which is, I believe, the vast majority of iPhones.

That's apple mis-information talking right there. You can set what devices to support in the Android manifest. Supporting medium and high res devices will coverg 80% of the Android devices on the market.. Android fragmentation is a myth, iOS is just as bad, and in some ways worse.

No, this is not mis-information. I have done Android development in the past and yes, you can configure the manifest and program device independent but it's just an assumption that everything will work correctly. You have to check on a good amount of devices if you claim to support all the devices out there. Just check any android.app announcement on the web. It's always followed by lots of comments that device X is not supported and these are popular devices, not obscure ones that barely got sold.

The problem is that manufacturers don't use a vanilla Android but use a customized version which often cause perfectly working apps to fail. Apple is circumventing this by keeping everything under their own control and selling only one new phone each year, thus limiting variations. Microsoft is doing something similar by keeping the software under their own control. Google has announced they will do this too and if they don't hurry not you can expect Samsung to make their own fork of Android. Amazon is already using their own fork which is still called Android but it really isn't.

The mobile landscape will change and we'll see what happens.

Great app again. Just like the GT5P one. Thanks a lot Eddie

One question. After logging in with 1 of mine PSN accounts, there was a pop up notification that you can change to a other PSN account, in general settings. But i can't find general setting. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks Roomboter,

By general settings I mean the separate settings app of iOS. This has been asked to me a few times before. I thought this was general knowledge as I have seen dozens of apps using this method on my phone. Maybe I should make the message a bit clearer?

This needs to be on Android. Everything else is a minority OS.

And if you think anything is going to change anytime soon, it's not. Android will continue to eat at all the other marketshare. Windows Phone is dead (stillborn) and RIM is heading that way too.

Is this bickering really needed? I mean, I can easily show totally opposite graphs showing revenue share or network usage. Half of the android users don't know that they even have a smartphone and it shows in network usage.

This is not really a forum fighting over preferred operating systems. If you really want to know how the mobile business works and will develop, head over to asymco.com and read every article on it starting from the beginning.

But it doesn't matter, I just don't want to fight with Eclipse again..

👍 I have seen a lot of graphs that show the opposite... the fan boyism for Android is worrying :dunce:

People just need to accept that the app was made for iOS and not Android. Lol at some people.

Is this app dead? I can't find it in the App Store.

Same here, I was unable to locate it in the iTunes/App Store.

I was using this app with no problems on my iPhone 4 since its release, and also applied the update for it when it was released.

But now "Friends" and "Around Me" rankings no longer appear. Cleared out login info in System/Settings/GT Rankings, and re-entered, issue persists. Verified there are no login issues on my GT home page.

Gotta be some issue with Apple/PD, as I guess it just got pulled.

Sorry about the late reply, but yeah, the app has been pulled. It's not an Apple or PD issue but just a pencil pusher at SCEE found it necessary to show the community the middle finger. The reason: showing an already published ranking is Verboten! The rot within Sony is clearly showing these days..

I'm still having a question open whether an authorisation is possible since many, many apps and sites use Sony data as well but don't get your hopes up.

I already had an update prepared for that problem where your friends/around me ranking wouldn't show up, the return of the banners and a way to browse through the entire rankings instead of just the top 250. It worked beautifully!

About those pesky empty friends/around me rankings: there is a problem where the app doesn't show your friends. It's not a login problem but there is a situation where the app thinks you're not logged in. It was easy to fix in code but since an update is not possible you can try one if the following solutions:

1. Clear your password or just change it to something else (doesn't matter what). Go to the app and select a ranking. Make sure to reload the pageit if the app returns from the background with a ranking already showing. Change the password back to the correct one and reload a ranking again.

2. If the above doesn't work, just delete it and redownlad from your download list.

Sorry to hear that, I was unable to find it on Apple Store too then saw your update, hope you can get the app back soon

That sucks! Was really looking forward to using the app. Hopefully they let it through, as this definitely extends the existing functionality. A shame you are going through all this trouble and effort to get shafted by Sony.

I don't understand, why do they have an api if you aren't allowed to use it? Is just a case that you have replicated the top 250 which is published on the GT5 website?

They have a http based api. It's meant to be used by every web browser in existence. The app just mimics a web browser in this regard. So, yes it's just a case of re-using the published data. It's ironic that we were happy that Sony watches GTPlanet and thought they were gathering feedback while in reality we only got hawks watching us. Wonder what they think about all the images posted here. They consider photomode shots as their own too, you know.

Im really sorry for you. Gtplanet is such a great community thanks to people like you, who put so much effort into this game for things PD should have done already. Poor show by Sony!

Corporate lackeys doing what they do. Instead of understanding the benefits of an organic community pushing their game forward, they pull the legal card for God knows why. I see this all the time in my line of work, and I can only chalk it up to people who take themselves waaaaay too seriously. Then again, the industry is worth billions, so it always comes down to money.

Again, sucks that you worked so hard to get shot down. We all appreciate it either way. :)
