US Ambassador killed in Libya

Not just Libya, but Egypt too.

Invading an embassy (US soil) and destroying a US flag should call for military action.

Lets see what Obama does.

Military action is the last thing needed right now.

Can't douse a fire with more fire in this case. The Libyan and Egyptian governments did not have a hand in it, hopefully that is, so who exactly do we declare war on?

Yeah let's nuke'm :ouch: 👎 👎

On topic, I am sorry for this action. Terrible for the people involved.

I won't say a word about Islam this time, but...

This is exactly what tends to happen in uncivilized countries...

Well you just did. And you blamed all that has the label Islam.

In the Netherlands we have a political party lead by Geert Wilders. He also says Islam is the root of all evil.

I am pleased to see that his party has lost heavily in today's elections.

Generalization of people by putting a stamp on them is just so wrong.

If American government associates weren't there in the first place then this would not have happened.

Way to light the torch paper, bro.

Well, the truth is that while some Christians and Jews might get hot and bothered if they're portrayed negatively by the media and entertainment, they don't go into full-scale riot mode and start injuring/killing others (well, not since The Crusades ended). Even those misguided nutjobs at Westboro Baptist just make some noise and sport bold signs, but they don't physically hurt anyone.

That's the difference.

No, quite some good Christians in the Churches over here in the Netherlands played naughty games with little homeless kids.

I mean come Pupik, don't generalize.

I'm not going to speak for all Judeo-Christians, but I was speaking about how they interpret movies and media. Not just being a bunch of troublemakers for the sake of it (geez, we have loads of that all around the world already, enough to make Islamofascists look minor-league).

(What? You mean there's an EU nation more barbaric at something an America?) :/

Put those Christians in the same places as those angry Muslims, and facing the same issues they have, and I'd bet they'd react the same way Pupik.

Shoot any creed and ethnicity would.

But let's not make this topic about that.

I'm really interested in the measures Libya will take to sort this out.

Over a flip-flapping-fapping movie? Maybe. But not in any recent cases that I could think of.

By the same token, it came as no surprise to me that a movie of this sort of content eventually stoked flames; doubly so when it's created by an Israeli-American...gee, you think that was going to go over like a leaden balloon with a few thousand people who can't get over a teddy bear granted the world's most popular given name?

No sense of humor and no sense of a world beyond their own doorstep...That's what guts me.

It was local thugs, not their gov't. Have a joint task Amercian-Libyan force to deal with, don't launch an invasion.

@Pupik: It's all fun and games though, until an Ambassador happens to get killed.

Unfortunately not everyone is going the have the sense of humor we have and have the ability to get over any criticisms to the things we believe in.

What guts me, and I find ironic, is that through a long cause and effect line, the maker of this film ultimately has the blood of Americans on his hands.

That's not true. Every time that you insult Mohammed in the Middle East, in most countries, that is a death sentence.

The website Jihad watch had a interesting piece a week ago about a girl with down syndrome who was caught with a backpack full of Koran pages in Pakistan and was going to be charged under their Blasphemy laws, turns out that the local Shiek there planted those pages just to scare Christians out of the area.

The point is "by hook or crook", Islamists see the fact that there is no true religion but Islam, and will do anything just to see Christians and Jews suffer.

Yet another protest by the minority. When oh when will we see a protest from the majority, the silent majority that appease the minority of backward thnking.

If this wasn't so tragic it would be funny due to the fact that their actions actually reinforces some of the stupity portrayed in the movie.

@Sanji: Islamist will always see everyone as the enemy. Including other Muslims.

We can continue this type of discussion in the Islam thread.

@Sphinx: It's just a circle of stupidity that keeps on continuing.

This. I see no reason why we even need a presence in these countries, or any countries for that matter.

yea, but then you have isolated your nationals in an unstable region of the world. Also it's a lot easier for Mr Cameron to speak to your ambassador over here than catch a plane (money, time C02. all that stuff) to either side of the pond.

Saying that, there is always skype.

As you can see the actions committed in Libya and Egypt had nothing to do with Islam as a whole.

Also to claim that Egypt and Libya are "uncivilized" is just ignorant. The Egyptians have been civilized for 5,000 years, they have a pretty rich culture too that is fairly romanticized to boot. The Libyans have been civilized for about 3,000 years. Violence happens in every country, I mean should Norway be considered an uncivilized nation because some guy killed a bunch of kids on an island?

So we have this in Libya and Egypt, and I understand something's going down in Yemen too. All on the anniversary of 9/11.

Over a freaking movie they don't like (supposedly). Sheesh. Like the people they killed had anything to do with with the movie.

It is not over the movie, I can assure you. That movie was up over a year before this went down. This was Al Queada getting revenge for us killing their #2 in a drone strike back in June. They haven't confirmed anything because of 9/11.

With all the conflicting reports and information out there it's hard to grasp a reason for it all. I'm really starting to wonder if this was an incitement to riot type of scenario and the theories that this was pre-planned are true.

Tend to believe this. The movie was a diversion. Textbook diversion.

The government should advice its citizens to stay away from dangerous parts of the world. Ultimately, it's the person's decision to go there. Just because they go there and get in trouble doesn't mean that the rest of the tax payers have to fund an effort to get their dumb ass back to the States.

Also it's a lot easier for Mr Cameron to speak to your ambassador over here than catch a plane (money, time C02. all that stuff) to either side of the pond.

Yeah, he should probably call first to make sure whatever he has to say is worth talking about. I'm envisioning a US government that is just friendly enough with other nations to allow travel and trade, and nothing more. No military alliances or international organizations or peacekeeping missions or disaster aid. Sorry, but we've got to fix our own problems before we try to fix everybody else's.

Well said

The UK is currently spending huge amounts of money on foreign aid while its own citizens go hungry and cold 👎
