Anyone using Inkscape, the free version? I am having a hard time reducing the image to 15KB or less to upload to GT Sport. I could use some guidance please.
Thank you in advance.
If it is from a scan bitmap it is usually a matter of deleting everything that you can't see. You want shapes defined once only. Hard to explain it all with just text. For example if you have white text on a black background you don't need text shaped holes in the background for the text.
If you could zip up and upload something you are working on, either here or in a pm , I could be more specific.

See the link I posted just a few comments ago, it’s a tutorial on manually tracing an image using Bézier curves that creates far less points than using trace bitmap

Hey everyone.

I use Inkscape for really basic logos and stuff. I've only recently found out about the gradients issue.
I've looked through countless topics and read a few pages of this topic too.

Has there been a foolproof way of getting GTS to recognize gradients created with Inkscape?

Cheers :)

Yes. One linear gradient per decal. Once you make that gradient. Save. Unless I'm missing something, that's it.

Ahhhh OK. It's been bugging me for a few days now because I managed to get one of my decals to work and couldn't work out why. That makes sense now.

So for multiple layers it's simply a case of layering multiple decals in GT.

I had been trying to work out a way of 'pre baking' multiple gradients but couldn't get it to work.

Thanks :)

I have some success with Inkscape by cutting offending gradient object and then paste in place. If that fails delete gradient and redo. Sometimes I even get the radial gradients to work by having them in their own layer with little else. For example this was done in Inkscape.
platty.png

In the zip I have included the original, the optimized and the one after using SVGOMG
Read this post by @eclipsee for some great info and the optimized settings to use.

Just to make life interesting, if it looks correct on the GTSport website it does not necessarily mean it will work in game on the car. It can even look incorrect on the GTSport website and still work on the car. Good luck.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for that I will definitely have a go with your method.

Hello again. I'm having trouble with decals again, this time with pixel art.

I'm trying to turn 2D pizel art sprites from the Metal Slug series into decals, without losing the boxy, pixel art style of the original sprites. However, I'm having issues with the 15kb file size limit.

I'm trying to turn this 65x56 pixel Metal Slug tank into an svg. It's too small for Inkscape to trace, so I scaled it up to 16x its size with no interpolation.

Original:

Scaled:

So, anyway, I traced the scaled up version, which got me a 81kb file. Upon closer inspection of the nodes, it seems that Inkscape puts a node in between every straight line for some reason...

Painstakingly erasing every middle node between each line for all 14 colours on the sprite, I managed to reduce the file size down to 59kb, but it's still way too big even for SVGOMG.

So, my question is, am I trying for something that's inherently impossible? Or am I doing something laughably wrong? I'm very new to svgs; if it weren't for GTS I wouldn't even know what an svg is. Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

I just googled metal slug tank and found a 300x300 image, you might find tracing this one easier. I would assume that unless you manually trace and smooth out all the curves its going to be a lot of points, so large file size.

Hey all. Thanks for all the help, and apologies for the late reply. Sounds like it's going to take a long time, and I'm not sure when I can provide an update, but I'm working on it.

I need some help with the size limit. For all of you creative people out there can you see of you can make this logo the right size without to much decal compromise. I've attached the file for your help.
Thanks

The top air race logo, the one with the white border, is a bitmap and has no place in the file. Remove it (which you have to or else it's not a valid svg) and the file was 8kb.

Ok but when I go to the uploader it says that its to big & when I looked it up it showed it as being 63.9kb. I tried using SVGOMG to make it smaller but I couldn't get it to the 15kb or lower. Can you tell me what I need to do to get it below the 15kb's? Here is the file again if you need it.

Thanks,

No, not OK. Do what I just told you to do.

I'm trying to help you but you need to read what you're told and do it. What I told you do will work. I can't do it for you.

It's step 4 of my Inkscape tutorial

Ok I will try out the tutorial. Sorry but I have another file question. I have a decal/logo that I converted into a SVG using Inkscape and them used SVGOMG to make it smaller but when I was done it still showed it file being at 16.8kb. Will the step's in Inkscape tutorial you sent me fix this problem also or is there another way to do it. If you need the file to check it out here it is.

You need to manually remove extra nodes. Any program that you use to scan an image into a vector will create many extra nodes you don't need.

upload_2018-9-13_15-24-54.png

You don't need that many nodes on that shape. You don't need any nodes on a straight line. 1 at either end is enough. There's 18 nodes there. You can get away with about 5 or 6 nodes on that shape. Use Inkscape to remove any extraneous nodes, and modify the ones you have left to get the correct angles.

I just did this one but I'm not sure how to change one of the letter colors (the P in EPWI in red). Can you tell me how to fix this one? The decal on top (not a SVG) but the lower one is. I just added it so you could what the original one look like.

We have a thread for requests.

Ok I'll try it out later & let you know. What software program do you use to make your decals. I seen under the Livery Editor that many people think that
Inkscape really sucks. What's your opinion on these different software programs.

I use Vector magic to scan images to vectors, but still need to use Inkscape to edit them afterwards. I haven't used any other software to make vectors.

https://vectormagic.com/

However, with all due respect, you seem to be struggling with the basics of what a vector is, and the best way to make them smaller. Another program is not going to magically teach you these things. All the programs (Inskcape, Affinity, 13yearoldCoral, etc) are "tricky" if you don't understand the basics.

You're right. I just was wondering if they all somewhat difficult to learn. I just saw some post saying "Inkscape really suck when converting them. I wish that there was a eraser way to me to talk with you but as long as you are ok with asking dumb questions or may ask you twice. Anyway I now for the one imagine you told me to delete some nods to help me with file size. My questions are (1) the more nods you have the better the picture is (color, detail)? And thats why some of my files are big (SVG) in size. (2) second question is under "File>clean up document what does this do? Also one more logo problem. Part of a letter is attached to other nods so when I try to change the letter color the whole thing changes in color. Here's the file.

Inkscape is fine for editing an SVG, but it does suck at scanning/tracing images (unless it's a straight forward black and white logo,) which is why I use vector magic for my scanning/tracing needs.

(1) Not really. The more skill you have, the better the vector will be.

(2) I haven't noticed it doing anything. Use save as > "Optimised SVG" or "Plain SVG" for the smallest filesize that inkscape can give you, but SVGOMG will always be able to save it smaller.

Question about file. I'm have a problem with the "O" in the EVO Logo. I go to combine process and do everything like I've done in the past but for some reason the center of the "O" is colored. I tried 3 time to get it to work and it ether showed the center black/white and not clear. I've attached the file so you can see it. Please let me know who to fix this. I appreciate all of the help you are giving me.

No, you attached the file in a message to me, you haven't attached it here.

That one is harder than usual as you have to go through all these layers (although there are too many layers, but that's another issue.)
