Yeah. I say it all the time: the beauty in these old V8s is what they can be, just a few simple changes and you have a pretty fast street cruiser.

Of course, I think they're just as lovely stock, too :P.

Don't get your info from howstuffworks. Most of it's garbage.
Yeah, thag's twice they've screwed something up.

But at least what they did have was accurate.

On to the truck:

I really like these trucks, but I think the ones Chevy made from that era are a lot nicer. I also just really love 50's Chevrolets though, so... :P.

I prefer the V shaped grille from the 56's honestly, but these are nice. Plus, the sound Y block engines made is nasty.

Shame the trucks didn't get the supercharged option some of the cars got with these engines. Horsepower would have shot up over 300 in some applications.

Meh. I don't care for supercharged anything, really.

Only three days left to vote on the poll up above. Looks to me like things won't be changing, and I won't be opening a VOTW thread.

I prefer N/A myself, but for the time period, 300hp in a truck of all things would have been mind blowing.

Yeah, 300 horsepower in a truck from the 50's would've been amazing.

I wonder if anyone's swapped one in...

You have approximately one hour to get your nominations in before I generate the Vehicle of the day.

Remember, it's vehicles, not necessarily limited to cars and trucks (although I suspect the majority of them will be), but since this is the cars in general area, sea and air vehicles are not allowed.

8/31/14: 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6, nominated by me, @Dagger311.
1970+Chevelle+454+Black+-+front+left+side+view+photo.jpg

Engine:

Chevrolet big block 454 LS6 V8. Rated at 450 horsepower, and 500 ft-lbs of torque. The LS6 model I've nominated also featured a forged steel crank, as well as forged aluminum heads, a Holley 4-barrel carb, and a dual exhaust. It also came with a cowl-induction hood. The engine had 11.25:1 compression.

Chassis:

Wheelbase: 112 inches.
Length: 197.2 inches.
Width: 76 inches.
Curb Weight: I don't know. The only number I've been able to find that's been verified was 3,300 pounds, and that was one with the 350 in it, not an SS. If anyone can find a number, it would be much appreciated. For now, let's go with, "Ridiculously heavy."

Transmission:

Four speed manual.

Facts:

They were assembled in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as many other places. I added that because, being a Georgian myself, that makes it even cooler to me.

0-60 in 6.1 seconds, and finished the 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds.

This vehicle returns to the list on 9/30/14.

The LS6 I'm not sure, but yes, the 454 was used on trucks and other muscle cars of that era. The LS6 is the performance version of the already fast LS5.

*Is slightly miffed I didn't get to fanboy about the Chevelle very much*

9/1/14: 1989 Toyota Cressida Grande, nominated by @Celicaas.
4th-Toyota-Cressida.jpg

(Japanese car n00b, may not be a Grande)

Engine:

@Celicaas corrected my previous information.

It had a 2.4 2RR inline 4 108 HP / 2.8 5M Inline 6 138 HP 226 NM

3.0 7MGE Inline 6 190 HP 250 NM

Drivetrain:

Front Engine, Rear wheel drive.
Again, @Celicaas to the rescue. That's the only problem hosting this, I don't know enough about these normal cars .

Its a 4 speed auto A340

5 speed manual was available

Well, looks like @Celicaas broke the Murica streak. This vehicle will return to the list on 10/1/14.

Thanks, I'll put all that in quotes, and see about finding a pic of an actual Grande. Turns out they weren't the most popular car.

They are popular here and still common this things are reliable like no other japanese sedan at the time they stopped making them in 1996 because Most of them didnt break down or had faults

So what they did they brought the avalon

Although it still exist but in another name mark x in japan

The japanese version is called Mark II

Yeah. The US/Japanese name thing gave me trouble finding info until I realized they were the same car.

And these (this generation especially) are known for their bulletproof-ness.

No luck on a Grande picture, unfortunately.
