Video game pet peeves.

Hackers invading online games:

Hackers are why I can't play COD4 or CODMW2 online anymore and no; I'm not talking about people that kill me easily. That's not hacking, that's just being better at the game than me. I'm talking about the jerks that decided to flood lobbies by giving players moon jumping abilities, infinite health, and infinite ammo on any weapon. They ruined the game for me, I couldn't find a normal lobby to have fun in due to these guys. Oh, and they constantly put their youtube channel address on one corner of the screen.

EDIT: oops, I got my words mixed up. I meant modders.

Here is another one that some might agree.

New games that are almost a replica of a previous game just a new name. *Cough* cod *cough*
To be fair, the last two have had distinct changes. AW introduced the exo movements and variant system, and BO3 introduced a very well-polished wall running system along with a new free run mode and co-op campaign.

Well those are kinda based off of Halo from what Totalbuiscuit has said over the reviews. So it's really nothing new. Just a game trying to copy another game which COD has been known for.

I honestly think every game franchise does it, especially FPS games. I think it comes down to if you think it is repetitive or not.

When they feed you difficult enemies to early and the numbers increase too fast:
I'm looking at you R&C 3 and your spamming of Thyranoid Commanders at Holostar Studios, and its the stage where they are introduced too, and they expect me to fight 3 of them at once with other enemies trying to kick my 🤬

Treyarch has said that their mechanics were inspired by Destiny.

FIFA comes to mind (Especially the hilarious and often awkward glitches)

Table matches in WWE games.

Who knew how frustrating it was to put someone through a table. You have multiple methods but they are all horrible as it seems that your opponent will always get off the table once your ready to put him through it, and if you try the "diving onto them technique" you might just put yourself through a table instead.

It's because of this, I have no interest in Tables being used in Pro Wrestling in general.

This one's a bit specific, but...

In Magic: The Gathering Online (and in paper too!), it's incredibly frustrating and unsportsmanlike when somebody concedes in a multiplayer match when they know they're about to get killed. It severely warps the game for the remaining players, basically giving the killing player a free turn because now they don't have to use their turn to actually kill the losing player... which at that point probably means one of the other remaining players is now going to get killed instead.

On Yugioh Dueling Network, people will activate MST to try to negate your Trap or Spell card.

I know Yugioh is complex to the point that is makes it no sense but MST clearly says that it destroys the Spell and Trap, it doesn't negate the activation of the Spell and Trap.

On DevPro, too.

That one time you need one extra move to get one more thing in Candy Crush, and you know it and find out. Out of Moves. :banghead:

When you get stuck at a section and the game gives you no clues on what to do next. Just experienced this on Crime & Punishment: Sherlock Holmes on XB1, I'm on the first case and I've been to all the areas, talked to every character, checked everywhere but still no ideas on what to do next and there are no hints anywhere on what to do next.

Conversely, when the game holds your hand through puzzles is horrible. Rise of the Tomb Raider had some brilliant puzzles, and there was a real feeling of satisfaction when you got them right. But if you pressed the left stick, you triggered Lara's "survival instincts" mode, which highlighted objects that you could interact with, and waypoints. That in itself was useful - especially when objects were hidden in obscure locations - but Lara has the annoying habit of giving a running commentary, which pretty much told you what to do next. And it doesn't help that Lara's voice actor only knows how how to be completely desperate or an absolute know-it-all.

I appreciate Nintendo's recent strategy of offering super items, reduced difficulty, or a free pass on a level to please modern younger/casual players, which enables Nintendo to continue making games with engaging gameplay that would otherwise be too demanding (even though the challenge is still on the low side until you get to the special/secret challenges).

Yet TLoZ: Skyward Sword is one of the worst examples of puzzle handholding I've experienced. You figure out what to do, but before you can do it, you're told to try doing the thing you already figured out. You do the thing, a cutscene explicitly displays where to go or what to do next, the series' signature sound effect announces your success, but before you can even take a step, you're told that there's an "88% probability" that you may proceed by interacting with what you saw in the cutscene!

Ridiculous achievements

I remember that there was one in the 2013 Tomb Raider - to have every optional conversation with every character. It was so easy to miss, and of you skipped one of them, your only choice was to restart the game.

The achievements related to the online portion were far worse though. hate it when games that are predominantly singleplayer experiences, get a tagged on multiplayer with trophies to go with them. Will never get my Platinum for The Last of Us and Tomb Raider for this reason.

Black Ops was pretty good too.
I have to give the last two entries credit, too. AW gave us a unique take, with the exo suits and variants (as broken as they are), and still got new DLC during the start of BO3. BO3 gave us the specialists - cool concept and good execution - and a lot of small things that made it more immersive. And even a plot for Multiplayer!

33. Anti-climatic Endings- Firewatch and Final Fantasy XII to name a few. In FF12 I thought ( I don't remember the final area) "that" area and "boss" was just a prelude to the Final Area and Final Boss of the game. When I defeated Vayne, (very easiiiily....) I was surprised when the credits started rolling And I asked myself "that's it?". Its like the game ended abruptly.

MW3 is my favorite COD BTW.

Lackluster Sign in bonuses

I think by now many of us are familiar with signing in and either having the amount of credits we get increase or getting rare stuff. However, I hate when I sign in for the last month or so and instead of getting rare resources, I get either more credits or useless crap I don't need. I literally have something I'm trying to craft and the place I have to go to get is just too damn difficult to farm for so this just royally pisses me off.

FFXII was unpopular because it was more of a political thriller than a traditional FF game. And it set up an avenue - the crystalline creatures - that was never explored in great detail.

Minor pet peeve: when the acronyms MW2 or MW3 refer to Call of Duty games instead of Mechwarrior 2 or Mechwarrior 3. :P

I couldn't even stomach enough of it to form an opinion on the story because of the combat system (and Vaan, and the license grid). Memories of FFXII almost kept me away from the Xenoblade games, which is a bit alarming for me since I've fallen head over heels for those.

I figured I didn't like autoattacks and menu-based abilities with real time movement, but what was really getting me was the wait after a command before it was executed. That's fine in turn-based combat, but unbearable with real time movement in the mix.

Glitch art styles.

I enjoy glitch art, but I just can't stand when it's so forced and in-your-face. Example: Quantum Break. It gives off the impression that they're trying too hard and making it so obvious that "next gen" is the era of glitch art. Forcing an art form only leads to it's demise, in my opinion. Also, other games need to tone it down with the RGB splits.
