This is the Official thread for the new Vintage Trans Am Racing Series. This will pay homage to the old muscle car racing of yesterday.
GT5Online7.jpg

Due to the limited Cars and Race Modifiable Cars The field has been opened to include cars never originally ran but hold the same generation of pure American Power.

The Overall Scoreboard will be recorded with complete Accuracy( Placements and Overall Time), and with the completion of the first series, A scoring/points system will be introduced possibly based on interest and participation.

As of right now there are 16 slots open. I, or another Pre-Designated person will Host the races in our lounges to prevent interruption from outside people. There are PP Limits for both groups to help even the playing field as well as a list of cars for the individual classes.

You will have two cars to race throughout the Season, one for each of the groups. You will stay with these two cars. How you set them up, Tune, and run them is your choice as long as they fall within the regulations. There are no Tire restrictions.

Group One PP Limit 660

69' Camaro Z/28 RM
70' Challenger R/t RM
71' Mustang Mach 1
66' A/c Cobra S/c
70' Trans Cammer

64' Lemans GTO
63' Corvette C2
69' Corvette C3

The Track Schedule (under works/suggestions)

Group One will run a first, and then Group Two cars will run same Track, Same Laps. I am hoping to do one or two tracks a night if possible.

Grand Valley 12 Laps
Deep Forest 12 Laps
Indy Road Course 10 Laps
Trial Mountain 10 Laps
Daytona Road Course 10 Laps
Daytona Speedway 15 Laps
Laguna Seca 20 Laps

Restictions are as follows, TCS, ASM, Skidforce, Active Steering will be turned off. Use of ABS, and Driving Line is allowed. Refer to GT Planets Online Racing rules ((https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=111241))) for more clarification on performance and expected behavior on the track. If a Foul is called resulting in major loss of time/place, a replay will be looked at after the race by several people and will make decision on any type of penalty or ruling.

I am hoping to run the Races in a Lounge on Sunday Evenings around 8-9pm EST. This however can be worked on.

Here is a Driver List (Copy and add your name and Cars to be using)

Also want everyone to know, I will be one of the back up facilitators (Kal tricked me into it). Might be a good idea to add me.
I will be trying to get a couple more people involved in the league, and probably hold a test/tuning/exabition races couple times this week. Unsure when. If you would like some tips & tricks on setups for these beasts, I can help. I'm no wizard, but I know what works for me, and I do pretty well with what I've got.

Kal, the track schedule looks good to me. I also like the 8pm E start. (5pm for us westcoaters)

I've been trying to come up with a prize idea for the winner(s). It would be nice if you could "gift" credits.... Or can you?

Seem to be a lack of interest in this. Either I presented it wrong or people just do not like the idea. Right now we have like, 5 people at most on here. I will send some messages to my psn contacts see if I can get them to join also for sure.

I'm game! Sign me up GTP_jswilli1. I will most likely go with the '71 Mustang (Group 1) and the '65 Mustang (Group 2). I tried online the other night (public) and lost interest fast. I do have a headset, I'm in the MST (NM), and Sunday evening should work for me.

GTP_jswilli1 Group 1 '71 Mustang Mach I, Group 2 '65 Mustang GT350R

I noticed the other night that you can enter a room number, Can you post in the OP what room so we can go straight there or will you just be sending a message to join? I have not played GT5 online as I have been focused on A/B Spec. I did play alot on GT5P but have decided to keep my online racing with GTPlanet folks.

I thought I posted here earlier..guess I didn't.

I'd be interested but I'm only in town every other weekend, so would only be available as a fill in for less than full fields. If you want me on that basis, and the series gets going, send me a message if you can to let me know. I'm here this weekend if anyone is up for practice.

I have a couple of suggestions but I'm just guessing as to why you might get a lack of interest. I find that the threads and series that promise the closest racing or the most equal chances tend to be the most popular. Look through the threads and you see lots of one or two make series and lots series with near identical cars within a certain class like GT500. You might be better served by limiting the cars that can compete in the series and maybe even go with a one make series like the Camaro RM to get things going and add the non-RM machines in a different or later series. The Camaro RM is not much more money than a fully modded muscle car and a three or four grinds over 20 minutes can get you the car so it's not like it's a ton of money.

If you do choose to stick with the wide range of non-RM cars, I think that what could happen is a loss of interest after the first or second race. I know from my own perspective, it's no fun unless I'm competing. Running around in 8th, 4 seconds off the leaders pace because he happened to pick the best handling car isn't fun. Running a second back and competing with 2, 3, 4 guys for a position is fun. To combat this again, you have to limit the number of cars you can use to maybe 2-4, to promote closer racing and maintain interest over the long haul.

Just some stuff to think about if you're moving forward with this. I think it would be a lot of fun...too bad I'm tied up on the weekends!!

Already made a list for cars in the groups with PP limits to even it out. I personally would get bored with Camaro Only people.

I totally agree with you on this... I count 8-9 drivers right now which isn't too bad if they all show..

You may want to add all the Drivers (PSN's) in the OP so it will be easy to 'add friends' when decide to race. See Y'all on the track:tup:

this sounds like fun! I'll most likely use my 70 Challenger for Group 1 and not sure what to use for Group 2

I would like to change my Group 1 car to the '63 Corvette Z06. I want to go ahead and represent all corvettes this season. Might even change the color of my '69 convertible to match..... If this isn't ok, let me know.
New rule; you get 24 hrs prior to opening race to change your car entry. lol... seriously though, if you want me to leave it, I will.

Something amusing? Posts like this to not tribute anything to the conversation. Please refrain from making such comments, or atleast explain yourself.

Yeah sorry dude...I guess that was a little childish but it was my first reaction...sorry. I just found it amusing that a couple of posts earlier you were lamenting that there was no interest and maybe you presented it wrong or people didn't like the idea, I offer up a few suggestions based on my admittedly limited experience and your only response is that you've made up a points system so everything is even and that's that. From my experience that points system isn't nearly sophisticated enough to make two cars fairly even with identical points. There can be vast differences in cars at the same points level.

It's your series dude, and I'd probably race it no matter what, but I thought you were looking for input as to why it wasn't flying so I gave some. I didn't mean any harm, I'm just trying to help out. I would like to race some American muscle cars myself, but rooms are hard to come by. Hope it works for you even if it doesn't fit my schedule.

John, I agree 100% that the point system is flawed, but it's the best way to attempt to equalise various cars. Other option would simply put everyone in the same car. Like Nascar...... I think there is enough variety in cars & point system is good enough for now. I'm sure there will need to be adjustments between seasons. That goes without saying.

Maybe you have a friend that can fill-in for you on nights you are not available? I wouldn't be opposed to having 2 people on a team. Just both can't race at the same time, obviously.

Thank you for explaining. I wasn't meanign to say the PP limits makes everything perfectly even. But as state, I honestly do not care to race against a bunch of Camaros. Hence why the PP limit is over the PP of the Camaro (Z/28-607 limit is 650) allowing for faster higher HP cars to race against the better handling Camaro. It's not flawless, but I also wanted to keep things really simple. Alot of the races I see being hosted have so many rules, and regulations on what you can have, almost takes the fun out of it. I just didn't want to come of all Nazi like on rules on the first series I am trying to get going.

And you mentioned list if cars, which I replied we had made a list. I just want to see alot of cars out there. In the end, it may come down to the classes being separated even more. I jsut wanted an really open field to see what cars are best, I haven't raced them all so I do not know. Where as I may be good at the Camraos, So guy in a Cuda may be better?

I apologize if I came off disregarding you advice, I was in my mind just discussion it further for more details and hammering.

Skel, Don't Care if you use that car. I was hoping some one would.

This Sunday, around 8pm EST I will open my lounge (pending no personal conflicts) for early practice and meeting. At 9 I hope to start for the first round. We will race the first track the designated number of laps, switch groups race again. Time pending, another Track will be run with both groups.

I am thinking, if enough participation is shown, the over winner will get a Stock, fresh oil change and washed 65' GT350R

I will participate this sunday but i dont think we should start this series yet. Some people, including myself, need more time to tune our cars to be competetive and consistant. This is just a suggestion Kal, i shouldn't speak for everyone else.

I am working on the cars now and will start tunes to get ready. Maybe tomorrow night we try a trial run and see who shows up?

There isn't a problem of people showing up, it's people wanting to actually participate in the series. Alot of people showed up the past few weekends but we aren't sure there will be alot of participation. These older cars aren't the easiest to tune.

The most you can get from the '71 Mach 1 is 586 PP. Haven't got to the GT350R yet. I am using a G25, manual w/clutch, and no driving aids. I'm still up for it, not sure if sticking with your two cars through the series will pan out. Won't know until we try it. I would be stoked to woop a 660 camaro with my Stang though!

The Camaro is actually around 607pp. Having a wheel makes a world of difference. I am still using the controller.

I am thinking of running my good ol Challenger just for the sake of proving it can run just as well when you focus on it's advantages over the Camaro. I just need to start driving it more as I have become quite used to the Camaro. Of course this is just an idea.

Also remember guys if your going to run, add your name to the list, and note everyone's PSN name. The room is hosted in the Lounge not public. Bare Min you need to send friend requests to either me, or skeletor.

ratrod95 Group one, red '69 camaro Z28 RM #95. Group two, dusk blue '69 camaro Z28 ...im lookin forward to this. I've been lookin for something like this for a while, and now i have found it.
