Well he's apparently there. Wonder who it is...I spotted the Stig. In the crowd.![]()
I wish race control had issued it about thirty seconds sooner. It gave Whincup the opportunity to block everyone. If the team want to issue orders to their drivers, then that's their business - but they shouldn't be allowed to issue orders that interfere with everyone else's race. So now we'll never know if Winterbottom could have genuinely challenged Lowndes because he was gifted a buffer by a driver who was effectuvely out of the race.Drive thru for Whincup.
It's weird that it's only really re-emerging now. It's never a great thing when a (relative) rookie doesn't listen, but Whincup has been pretty disciplined since then; if he wasn't listening, then at least the team was able to head it off. To a certain extent, the driver needs to make a judgement call when the situation is marginal, but neither of Whincup's judgement calls have made any sense.Garry Rogers got rid of Whincup because he doesn't listen. He's been vocal about that reason. Everyone laughed at him for it, but know it's showing on the biggest stage.
The Holden fans. There's a reason why you couldn't hear the booing when Lowndes and Tander were called up - if there are bogan Ford fans out there, there aren't enough to be heard. But when Winterbottom is up there ...At least you can point out who the bogans are from the booing
Where else do you hear a crowd cheering a drivers name? Nowhere. The crowd is chanting his name. Without a doubt, the most popular driver. Especially around that neck of the woods. 6 wins, 13 podiums. What a legend. 101 V8SC Wins.
I wish race control had issued it about thirty seconds sooner.
You'll always be adamant you weren't at fault if you're a racing driver, just some more than others.Whincup still adamant that the safety car lights were green.![]()
If I recall correctly, Scotty got a further penalty for serving his 15 second penalty under SC (Clipsal Race 2) so this may be a similar situation?Yeah, it's mind boggling why they didn't call him into pit lane just before the re-start. He undoubtedly ruined what would have been another great finish by blocking everyone.
I'm guessing that the logic was that they wanted it to be an actual penalty. Passing the safety car is a pretty serious infringement, but with his stop made, calling him in at the restart would have minimised the penalty. They don't want to send the message that it's okay to play the rulebook. The problem is that it gave Triple Eight the opportunity to back everyone else up, and how do the stewards punish that? Whincup did it, and Lowndes got the advantage, so they can't rightly penalise Lowndes. No-one wants to see the race decided by a penalty. They could try it to send a message to Triple Eight, banking on a fan revolt against the team, but Roland Dane and Simon McNamara would just play the victim card. How many of those Holden fans at the podium would accept such a move? To many of them, the ends justify the means.Yeah, it's mind boggling why they didn't call him into pit lane just before the re-start.
It's not the stewards' responsibility to issue penalties in such a way that the teams avoid further penalties. It's down to the teams to know the rules. If I recall correctly, Scotty got a further penalty for serving his 15 second penalty under SC (Clipsal Race 2) so this may be a similar situation?
The lights were orange in the replays.Whincup was still claiming the safety car was showing green lights in the post-race interview so possibly a mistake by the SC but either way he knew he was breaking the rules.
Oh, absolutely but he really shouldn't have said anything at all, his reaction just made him looklike an arse. You'll always be adamant you weren't at fault if you're a racing driver, just some more than others.
Too late to save that representation.Oh, absolutely but he really shouldn't have said anything at all, his reaction just made him looklike an arse.

I noticed that Pye and Ambrose were bottoming out through the dip after Sulman Park all day; the front right of the splitter was scuffing the surface all day. I know everyone does it, but they were doing it much more. I'm guessing that they were running just a little too much rake.I think that corner where the #3 and the #17 crashed needs to have a safer barrier installed. Not on the racing area but over the grass where they both hit the wall.
Bleh, pretty uninspiring result in my point of view. Good on Lowndes for winning and Winterbottom making an awesome effort to second, pretty disappointed with how well Tander did though.
I don't know, but he's the only person who can turn "we have the two best drivers" into a complaint. How long before Roland claims an unfair advantage to the #5 due to no double stacking...
