And most of the cars don't have airconditioning........they probably will soon though with the devlopments in the cooling system a certain team that I will not mention has.

I remember reading something about an air con system Perkins was developing. Most drivers wear a cool suit which pumps cool water through the suit. I would imagine however, that the new FIA underwear, which now makes it three layers, has somewhat negated the effect of the cool suit.

There have been known problems with these cooling systems. The water has to be ice cold. This means that the water freezes in the pipes and doesn't flow around, therefore making it just an extra bit of weight to lug around the track. Some drivers open the windows instead, however that reduces the aerodynamic flow.

I have heard some drivers complain about the FIA underwear because it's too hot.

What does everyone think about the latest news that the V8s may be changing from H pattern gear shifts to sequential in the next few years? I think they should stay H pattern. It takes away some of the element of human error. Missing a gear because you are trying to bang through the gears too fast should be part of racing.

There's something special about the feeling of slamming a gear in. The H pattern is way better. I say stay with that.

Pukekohe this weekend. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well after watching PRM yesterday and hearing what was said about the benefits of a sequential gearboxes like longer duration between services, less chance of damaging an engine by selecting the wrong gear, etc.

It would seem that they maybe the way to go. However, this may not favoured by all concerned, especially those that wish to make out that the series is related to the production cars.

Also the cost of purchasing new gear boxes could also be a problem.

If i remember correctly from Auto Action a few months ago it is possible to retro fit a sequential system to an existing gear box. I'll have to go and see if i cant find the article.

i think that we should stay with the gearboxes we have right now....they work well and its more challenging for thiedriver (skaife at darwin last year)

...hearing what was said about the benefits of a sequential gearboxes...
There are so many other ways that they could curtail the costs of racing, forcing every team to go out and purchase several completley new gearboxes is not one of them. A retro fit kit would never be as smooth or reliable as a whole new gearbox from the manufacturer. If the teams had the choice between a cheaper retro fitted sequential system on their old gearbox or a more expensive brand new sequential box which would have done countless kays of testing, I guarantee every team would go for the new one. This is the highest level of motorsport in the country, they don't take cost-cutting measures on such critical things. Apart from that, apparently they are looking at a control spec box anyway, in which case it's everyone in or no-one in. Going by TEGAs reaction to the gearboxes CPR and FPR wanted to use at Pukekohe, they wouldn't let some use a gearbox which was slightly different in spec to others anyway.
However, this may not favoured by all concerned, especially those that wish to make out that the series is related to the production cars.
Like CAMS!!! The CAMS website has V8 Supercars listed under production cars along side GT-P and V8 Brutes. Anyone who thinks V8 Supercars are even remotley related to the production versions need to go and get their head read!

I really hope they keep the H style gear box's. It takes some of the driving out of the sport. It may have benefits but human error happens and if you take out the chance of human error the sport gets less interesting.

I agree, not just anyone can use the H pattern to its full potental(?).It takes alot of skill to heel & toe properly.

I do hope that they keep the H pattern gearbox too. In a day when Top level motorsport are tyring to go back to driver driven cars so tp speak, v8supercars seam to be doing the opposite.

Heal & Toeing isnt that hard to do by the way. When braking hard I can do it pretty well (its a lot harder when braking lightly) and I'm no v8supercar driver ;)
And it would suck if the drivers didnt have that. I say why try to fix it if it ant broke. Theres nothing wrong with the current way v8's race except the points (still too close together but much better now they have dropped the worst round thing).

PS, the damageing the engine argument is bull****. The only way I see it being a negative to the engine is missing a gear and hitting the limiter for half a second and if you listen in on how long they are on the limiter at the end of most straights......

Keep the H-pattersn God Damn It :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

:)

I think they should let the teams use any diff gear they want not just use one of the three they have a choice between. Though it does keep things more even.

Yes. Take the long straight on Pukekohe for instance. On the in-car views you can hear it's on the limeter for a good 5 seconds. Maybe a little less.

Nah I reckon giving the teams the option of running any diff ratio would greatly gappen the close racing we have now. Plus, imagine how much more it would cost teams to having 10-15 different diff ratios.

But I really hope they dont do this sequential gearbox deal.

Perhaps we can organize a pertition of some sort and hand it up to v8supercars.com (seriously). It could make a difference when suddenly alot of public opinion is against the deal.....

Hey, is it AVESCO or TEGA that decide which is the go with the transmission issue because here are the contact details.

http://www.v8supercars.com.au/about/contact.asp?ind=M

How **** is it that v8supercars.com.au doesnt even have this issue on their page at all :irked:

Well qualififications were today and Jason Bright had the fastest time, followed by Marcos Ambrose. Mr Pukekohe (Greg Murphy) Was in 5th. that doesn't mean anything though. The top 10 shootout is what matters.

Do you know where abouts on the grid skaifey is yet? Did he make it in the top 10?

He is in either 3rd or 4th. They didn't say the full top 5. Just the main contenders.

You would be surprised how many kids up here don't even know what I'm talking about when I say;heel and toe braking. Thet look like a dear in the head lights of a car.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Were you at the qualifying?

I wish. I heard it on the news. I get to see the races with a comfortable front row seat though. Well through the television screen first. I WANNA GO!!! :(

Great racing today! The stupid radio said who won the first race before it had even started so that race wasn't as much exciting.:( It's the second time that has happened in a week!

the racing was alllright. good to see ambrose get up. but its hard to watch the v8's and do an economics assignment at the same time

Yeah the race was alright but I'm not a fan of the track. It has some of the most awesome corners around and Ambros pulled a great move to take 2nd early in race 3 but apart from that part and the slight S part leading to the start/finish straight, its gotta be one of the most boring tracks around. Far too many right handers. Have you seen the proposed street track there! What is it with kiwi's and right handers

:D

I thought this news would have been posted on here by now, so for those that don't already know, the postponed (hooray) Shanghai round has been replaced by Symmonds Plains. I think it's a great idea to include another state into a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP before introducing another country!
