Clearly sounded like a VR6 to me, too. Of course, that doesn't mean that's what it actually has.

Anyone care to remind me what AES stands for?

Something Engine Sound(s). In light of the effectiveness of the new tesselation system I'm gonna take a punt on 'adaptive'.
Nobody knows. But the whole point of going to the trouble to do it that way is because of the flexibility the new sounds have. So "adaptive" may be right. ;)
So many of the new cars have the same hard-edged whine regardless of the engine configuration. There needs to be a blank canvas approach for GT7. Some sound good but do they sound realistic? I am not so sure.
That's the exhaust rasp. It can be toned down, but its excessiveness is covering up missing sources for now.

The VR6 engine has a smooth and soft sound to its exhaust. Raspiness is not a common thing from what I've heard unless if you take the resonators out of the exhaust, even with that it still sounds somewhat smooth.

I wonder what PD will do to achieve the smoothing. It's a possibility from what I've seen with the Subaru VGT at low revs.

Most likely a fix for the transmission bug, unless you mean VW will bring a new teaser tomorrow, but they termed it as "Stay tuned for more updates" or something.

It's all a matter of installation, the smoothness is not inherent to the VR6. If anything, it's more lumpy than a normal inline six.

You're right, though, removing cats and resonators will increase the raspiness. I'm sure someone has a VR6 on straight pipes somewhere (e.g. here). I used to regularly see a Golf IV "V6" that was only slightly louder than stock but was nevertheless very raspy. That inherent lumpiness has a tendency to elicit rasp more easily than something smoother.

Think about how BMW deliberately engineered rasp into the E46 M3, by omitting a resonator and tuning the suspended lengths of pipe so they wobble in just the right place. Whilst you might not do that for a run-of-the-mill beige-mobile, I'm sure a virtual concept car intended for a game could be given a little leeway.

If you listen to the teaser clip again, you can hear what sounds like a rev limiter, like those "you can't rev beyond this point in neutral" jobs. That's injecting a bit more roughness at times. So it's likely a real engine, probably one that VW knocked together with a fruitier than standard exhaust. :)

On the 15th the seasonals for the current vgt end so it may be possible. I wouldn't get my hopes up since a notification of maintenance hasn't shown up yet

Announced Maintenance usually means it's likely an update is coming, but updates can still happen with no prior announced maintenances.

Yes, I noticed they posted the original maintenance notification yesterday too.
It's not something that happens all the time, but it has happened before.
There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.

The last time they resurrected the old notice I took particular interest in it.
But nothing eventuated from it.

Time will tell I guess.

Yeh, it seems something's happenning.

I was just checking out the current seasonals on the website community area and all was fine, but suddenly it's under maintenance.

*It's happening?
Yes.

The roadster is overall smaller than the supersport.

I'm thinking it doesn't seem to handle quite as well as the first one, seems to understeer really badly if you get on the power too soon. Haven't had chance to drive them back to back though, just did the seasonal this morning and had to come to work

It somehow has the higher PP. Higher aero?

So much for the resurrection of the original maintenance notice not leading to anything. :banghead:

It's impossible to pick these things.

Welcome to PD logic, son.

But really, it's great to see a update that solves a major bug, gives us a new car and new events, all at the same time. It's always good to have these type of updates.

If I had to imagine, yes, it must be higher aero settings. And those, in turn, may be behind the understeer issues that @MatskiMonk mentions. I was more or less expecting someone to mention that, but I haven't driven the car myself to confirm such a thing. And since I'll only have my PS3 next to me at around 6:00 pm, it will take a while...

But just from looks, I like the Supersport. Sure, it's a classic recipe (give some steroids to an already existing design), but it is pretty agressive and race-y. I just fear that the additional race-y bits may have taken away some of the finesse of the Roadster.
